02:38:39 <uXus> Good morning!
02:39:03 <uXus> When importing QIF-files, is it possible to set the date to import from (or period)?
02:46:35 <uXus> Gnucash for Android fails to export “last transactions” (gives zero-length QIF on output) and gives only file with all transactions. So I need to import transactions from this file from the specify date.

04:50:19 <mikee> gjanssens: Good morning. Thanks for reviewing the invoice patch, all good and valid critisism. I'm looking at the owner-report.scm now with a view to fixing the two file issue.
04:51:33 <mikee> The payment details are a leftover from my personal invoice. These should be part of the extra notes I guess, or even be part of the business data within GnuCash.
04:52:11 <mikee> I think though the overall concept is sound.
04:53:01 <mikee> Alignment is a CSS issue, which I guess is the whole point of the excercise.

05:09:50 <gjanssens> mikee: Good morning.
05:10:56 <gjanssens> I forgot to mention in my review that I'm very happy with your improvements to the invoice.
05:11:31 <gjanssens> I agree it would be nice to make the payment details part of the business data
05:12:19 <gjanssens> And then perhaps still make them optional on the invoice.
05:12:53 <gjanssens> And yes, CSS can be tricky. Powerful, yet tricky.
05:13:25 <gjanssens> When I have to debug similar issues, I usually do that in firefox with the firebug plugin installed.
05:13:44 <gjanssens> That allows me to play live with all css settings until I find the correct combination
05:15:00 <mikee> Great stuff. Firefox "inspect element" I find very useful.

12:21:25 <rodneyr> I have been using GnuCash for my checking account for a few years, and love it, but starting about 2-3 weeks ago, the Find command does not appear to work. It is finding things outside correct match of the find. Specifically, what I need to do is to be able to select find, then add Reconcile, with option Not Cleared - it is returning items already cleared. I don't know what could have caused the change. I have tried multiple time
12:21:25 <rodneyr> s, multiple ways, with the same result. This is making it difficult to see what checks are still not cleared - help... please
12:21:58 <rodneyr> I am running 2.6.1
12:22:08 <rodneyr> On Ubuntu 14.04
12:24:09 <warlord> rodneyr: How about just going into the checking register and then View -> Filter By... -> Status and uncheck 'cleared' and 'reconciled'?
12:24:25 <rodneyr> Let me try that
12:25:44 <warlord> As for why your find isn't working -- 'not cleared' only means anything not 'c'.. but that alone isn't sufficient because it could, depending on your other criteria, still grab a cleared transaction because another split in the txn matches.
12:28:06 <rodneyr> But I am not using splits (at least not that I know) and this same search has worked for a long time (2+ years) and has been part of my normal morning routine every day - pull up online account, check off everything that has cleared the account (change n to c), and then periodically search to see what else is out there. So I know this technique has worked consistently before
12:28:30 <rodneyr> However, the filter method you just mentioned works fine, so I have a way to get done what I need, so I thank you.
12:28:45 *** jralls_ has joined #gnucash
12:29:59 <lmat> rodneyr: It's probably not helpful, but you're using splits :)
12:30:17 <rodneyr> ;-)
12:30:28 <lmat> rodneyr: the main virtue of double-entry accounting is that the money always has a source and destination. In gnucash, those sources and destinations are represented by splits.
12:31:18 <rodneyr> When I first started this (long time ago), I had to specify the account to use in the search to narrow it down so it only looked at my checking account and not the other cleared account. Sometime during that period I accidentally left off adding both to the search and realized it worked and continued that
12:31:42 <rodneyr> This time when I saw the change, i tried both with, and without, specifying just the checking account for the search - same behavior
12:31:50 <lmat> rodneyr: hmm
12:33:01 <rodneyr> I have a solution, so I am happy... but as a software developer, I am always curious why something appears t change when no intended change in input or environment - just puzzling

13:36:52 <lmat> gjanssens: Thanks for the triage work recently! That helps a ton.
13:38:45 <fell> gjanssens: didn't your replace gconf by something else?
13:40:07 <fell> I see many occurrences of GConf in our wiki e.g. in FAQ, Glossary without version/replacement.
13:47:02 <warlord> fell: it was replaced by gsettings, which uses dconf, not gconf
13:47:05 <warlord> (at least on Linux)
13:48:00 <fell> And does the dependency on dbus still exist?
13:50:41 <fell> Do you think, you can update the wiki?
13:50:58 <fell> I assume instead of ~/.gconf[d] some other place is used?
13:52:28 <warlord> I dont know, sorry
13:52:34 <fell> In wich version was the switch?
13:57:18 <warlord> I believe 2.6.0
13:57:27 <warlord> (Technically probably 2.5.something)

14:17:25 <fell> Perhaps a place to store it in the sources would be src/doc/dia.
14:20:10 <jralls> Fell, it's already stored at http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/images/8/86/Gnucash_erd.png. I think you might have done that for me last spring. It's just that the URL on the C API page wasn't updated. I just fixed it.
14:22:02 <fell> Cool!
14:34:15 <jralls> fell: Geert changed the preferences system to use GSettings, which still uses GConf on Linux but uses native facilities on Windows and Mac OS X. That was released in 2.6.0 as Derek said.
14:35:41 <fell> IIRC in linux it uses binary DConf instead of xml GConf.
14:37:27 <jralls> It may depend on the distro. https://wiki.gnome.org/action/show/Projects/dconf?action=show&redirect=dconf says that it's for use on systems that don't already have a configuration storage system, and GSettings does have a GConf backend.
14:38:18 <fell> Jralls, can yiu fix "MacOsX: ???" in http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Glossary#G
14:39:06 <jralls> Ah, I see you're ahead of me! Sure.

15:10:28 <gjanssens> jralls fell: regarding the switch to gsettings
15:11:04 <gjanssens> This happened just before the last 2.5.x release
15:11:46 <gjanssens> And no it doesn't use GConf on linux, you probably meant to say dconf
15:12:07 <gjanssens> On Windows it uses the registry and on OS X the preferences are stored in plists
15:12:21 <gjanssens> Feel free to remove any reference to GConf from the wiki
15:13:10 <gjanssens> I did change the FAQ about most recently used files (MRU), which also briefly mentions this
15:13:45 <gjanssens> That faq entry should still be updated to explain how to change a plist on OS X directly.
