15:41:35 <Paul> Is there a way to ‘Find’ memo entries which are in split transactions? When I attempt to do this, I get no records in the search result eventhough I verified that the search term is present in the split’s Memo field. Am I doing something incorrectly or isn’t this feature present in GnuCash?

16:54:31 <warlord> Paul: it depends exactly how you arrange the search.
16:55:19 <warlord> Searching is done by split, not transaction.. so if you say "Acccount == X and Split.Memo == Y", this will only be true if the specific transaction split for account X has that memo.
16:55:35 <warlord> It wont give you the transaction where one split is in Account X, and some other split has the memo Y
17:10:51 <Paul> I just entered the search word in the box and specified “Memo, Contains, Search Term”. For example, In my checking Account I make deposits from several sources in a single deposit entry. Each is linded to a different account as the source of the entry with an entry in the Memo field explaining its source. In order to find a transaction must I already know which account it is posted to in order for Find.. to locate it. Is t
17:10:52 <Paul> correct?
17:15:51 <warlord> No
17:16:06 <warlord> In fact, if you start the find from your Checking Account register it probably WONT do what you want.
17:16:25 <warlord> (unless the memo happens to in the checking account split, and not the split to another account)
17:16:35 <warlord> try the 'find' from your Chart of Accounts page.
17:17:18 <Paul> OK. Thanks. I’ll try that and see what I can learn.
17:18:28 <Paul> Yep. That does exactly what I wanted! Thanks for the clarification.
17:18:47 <Paul> Bye
