07:36:45 <ryanakca> I imported a QIF, and now all of my accounts have been duplicated. E.g., I selected a certain transaction as being from my chequing account to Dining, and rather than having it assigned to Dining after the import, gnucash created an account "Dining 2" and put the transaction under it instead
07:37:02 <ryanakca> Is there a way to merge all of these accounts and not have this happen again
07:37:03 <ryanakca> ?
07:37:31 <ryanakca> The description of the '.* 2' accounts is "QIF import: Name conflict with another account."
07:48:20 *** jmd has quit IRC
07:48:21 *** jmd has joined #gnucash
08:03:49 <warlord> ryanakca: the name conflict would occur if: 1) currencies differ, or 2) account types differ.
08:04:33 <ryanakca> Currencies differ
08:05:05 <ryanakca> Although I've never had issues importing OFX files with differing currencies
08:07:11 <ryanakca> Is there a way to merge the accounts?
08:09:23 <warlord> not if the currencies differ
08:10:04 <warlord> An account can only hold a single currency. If you have transactions of multiple currencies you need multiple accounts.
08:10:08 *** SteveG has joined #gnucash
08:10:17 <warlord> OFX shouldn't let you merge transactions of differing currencies into the same account.

08:28:22 <ryanakca> warlord: Hi again. Yes, I seem to recall being asked to enter the exchange rate when importing OFX files (or fetch it automatically).
08:28:25 <warlord2> ryanakca: I'm back.
08:28:53 <warlord2> Ah, that could be. QIF most definitely does not know how to do that.
08:29:02 <warlord2> QIF is most certainly a single-currency system.
08:32:01 <ryanakca> Can't gnucash do that part though? I imagine the OFX / QIF for my checking accounts simply list "€50 in" / "€60 out". I have my EUR chequing account in gnucash, and when importing then selected which accounts the money came from / went to respectively. gnucash might then be able to do the conversion as for OFX?
08:32:55 <ryanakca> In short, the OFX from my bank isn't listing transfers between different currencied accounts at my bank, deposits / withdrawals
08:33:03 <warlord2> ryanakca: the QIF importer does not have the knowledge to do that.. You're welcome to implement that feature and submit a patch.
08:33:43 *** jmd has quit IRC
08:34:07 <ryanakca> I'll look into it, thanks.
08:34:20 <warlord2> It's implemented in C and Scheme..
08:34:41 <warlord2> ... the QIF importer is kind of a rats-nest going back and forth.
08:35:10 <ryanakca> Oh. I have zero knowledge of Scheme
08:36:12 <warlord2> It's easy
08:36:23 <ryanakca> Alright, well, thanks for the help. I guess my best bet is just to delete all of the transactions I imported and try a CSV import or something
08:36:48 <ryanakca> Learning LISP would do me some good, I know :)
08:40:46 <warlord2> :)

15:46:51 <jralls> warlord: Derek, do you know how to set a breakpoint that will fire when Scheme reports an error?
15:49:38 <warlord2> Not particularly.
15:49:56 <warlord2> Gdb doesn't know about scheme, but IIRC the error handling happens within the scheme engine, not at the guile/C level
15:52:36 <jralls> Total digression, especially since I'm using LLDB ATM, but I just noticed some guile docs for gdb when googling, so it may know about scheme. Not that that's going to help me here.
15:54:53 <warlord2> google for guile execption breakpoint?
