11:38:58 <jralls> warlord: Do you know offhand why our Scheme code doesn't use the Scheme rational type?
11:43:50 <warlord> jralls: no idea.
11:46:59 *** Bodhi-Baum has joined #gnucash
11:53:15 <warlord> Honestly I thought the scheme code mostly used gnc-numeric

12:00:52 <programmerq> so, erm... not 100% sure the best way to word this. Basically I pay tithing to my church, and I'd like to track how much is "owed". I'm thinking a separate accounts payable account called "tithing" is appropriate.
12:01:38 <programmerq> so any time I get income that I deem as qualifying as income for tithing calculation purposes, I drop that amount in that account, and then I can know how much to pay.
12:02:04 <programmerq> (I used to be a salary employee, so I just wrote the same check every paycheck I got. now I'm self-employed, so it's a little bit more of a pain to track)
12:02:17 <programmerq> another thought I had was to create a liabilities account, but that doesn't seem quite right.
12:06:08 *** MyXelf has quit IRC
12:22:13 <warlord> programmerq: I think more likely what you want to do is set up an asset account (ala a "bucket budget") for your budgeted tithe.
12:23:01 <warlord> So basically you would create a subaccount of your Bank account, "ToTithe".. And whenever you get income you can split your % into the ToTithe account. Then when you tithe you transfer from the ToTithe account to Expenses:Charity (or whatever you choose)
12:23:32 <programmerq> I hadn't considered a subaccount. I'll take a look into that.
12:24:06 <programmerq> also, I see some references to an effort called "cutecash" in the gnucash wiki-- is there ongoing development on that effort still?
12:25:02 *** steve has quit IRC
12:25:22 <warlord> Cutecash was a side project.. A toy. It still is.
12:25:23 <warlord> why?
12:27:01 <programmerq> I just thought it was interesting-- a UI refresh might be fun to have at some point.
12:27:56 <warlord> Uhhhhhh
12:27:57 <warlord> no
12:28:13 <warlord> do you realize how many man-years of effort went into gnucash?
12:28:20 <programmerq> probably quite a lot. :)
12:28:31 <programmerq> don't get me wrong-- I'm loving using it as is.
12:28:33 <warlord> Yeah. and unfortunately most of the business logic is tied into the UI..
12:29:01 <jralls> warlord: What you mean "no"? We've been talking about ditching Gtk for months. You're the one who started the discussion!
12:30:13 <jralls> programmerq: So Cutecash was an experiment to see what would be needed to switch UI frameworks. We now know, and we've started down the path, but it will take many years to get ready.
12:30:31 <programmerq> jralls: makes sense.
12:30:34 <warlord> my point of 'no' is that there is a ton of work that would lead up to it. It's not just a "lets change the UI"
12:30:49 <jralls> s/would/will/
12:31:19 <warlord> sorry.. will
12:31:39 <programmerq> warlord: of course-- it's never as easy as "let's change the UI".
12:33:28 <warlord> right
12:35:28 <programmerq> is there some sort of entity that exists to further the development of gnucash? (like for example, something like the python software foundation). just from browsing the gnucash.org site and wiki, I don't see any mention of one.
12:35:58 <jralls> No foundation, just us. Wanna help?
12:36:16 <programmerq> unfortunately, my skills in the technologies used are somewhat lacking
12:36:36 <programmerq> I may be able to do some donations
12:37:17 <programmerq> I do have a couple bugs I could report, but I haven't done the legwork to see if they are already reported.

14:06:54 <programmerq> which is preferred for reporting things-- the gnome bugzilla, or the gnucash uservoice?
14:08:06 <jralls> programmerq: reports go to bugzilla. uservoice is for feature requests.
14:09:36 <programmerq> I wasn't able to find bugs I'm experiencing in bugzilla already-- mostly quirks on OS X. dialogs pop under other windows, sometimes windows refuse to be closed. stuff like that.
14:10:54 <jralls> Most of those are gtk issues rather than gnucash ones.
14:11:00 <programmerq> some things that might be considered feature requests, but might be considered bugs: command+H opens help (on OS X it should hide the application), command+` should scroll through open windows
14:11:08 <programmerq> jralls: ah, I was afraid of that.
14:14:42 <jralls> checking Boost >= 1.50.0... checking build system type... Invalid configuration `Files' : machine `Files' not recognized
14:14:58 <programmerq> (I guess everything I've listed could be attributed to gtk, hmmm)
14:15:42 <jralls> gjanssens: Is the Win32 build failure from hh in Program Files that invalid configuration message I just posted?

14:35:26 <gjanssens> jralls: probably
14:35:35 <gjanssens> I've almost got it fixed
14:37:55 <jralls> OK. Incidentally, even after I uninstalled htmlhelp workshop the installer still found another one, probably buried in MSVS somewhere. Aside from MSVS being in Program Files it seems to have made its library OK.

14:54:24 <gjanssens> jralls: I just pushed a fix for the Program Files path being invalid
14:54:46 <jralls> OK, I'll pull and test...
14:55:05 <gjanssens> I cheated a bit by copying the htmlhelp.h file from program files to c:\gcdev
14:55:32 <gjanssens> The package hasn't been updated in years, so I guess that's safe
14:55:58 <gjanssens> It's interesting your system finds another htmlhelp workshop installed
14:56:13 <gjanssens> But I'll come back to this later
14:56:19 <gjanssens> It's time to go to bed here
14:56:57 <jralls> OK, Good Night. I'll post results when the build's done.
14:57:12 <gjanssens> Tx

16:00:59 <jralls> @tell gjanssens Gnucash-on-windows now builds successfully on Win7 without trouble from hhworkshop. Good work!
16:00:59 <gncbot> jralls: The operation succeeded.
