04:13:11 <warlord> Apparently it's only an issue when I'm asleep :)

08:59:58 <warlord> I also found that the clamd milter was taking up like 2G of Virtual RAM. I restarted the process and that fixed it. I probably should just add more RAM to the VM.

11:14:10 <jralls> fell: Frank, I see from the log that you asked me to "sketch the handling of pull requests". What do you mean?
11:15:50 <fell> Hi John! At least some pointer how that is done.
11:16:29 <fell> Somebody sends a request, what should I do?
11:17:58 *** ErKa has quit IRC
11:20:43 <fell> Ah wait, I see there is "git pull [options] [<repository> [<refspec>...]]", but are there pitfalls we should avoid?
11:22:41 <fell> IIRC Thorvalds denies pull requests.
11:23:15 *** kpreid has quit IRC
11:23:48 <jralls> Oh, OK. There are two ways to go there: You can pull the submitter's branch from GitHub or you can download the patch and apply it to your repo, then build and test. If everything is good, push.
11:24:30 *** kpreid has joined #gnucash
11:25:01 <jralls> Pulling the submitter's branch has some risks if the target branch has moved since he last rebased or if he's made more changes than the pull request shows.
11:26:53 <jralls> As for Linux, they have a hierarchical pull structure: Torvalds pulls only from designated managers, who have designated sub-managers. Ordinary developers submit to the submanagers for the section of code that they're working on, and the pulls get passed up the line to Torvalds.
11:27:56 <jralls> That's the structure that git was originally designed for, before any centralized git repos existed.
11:35:18 <fell> Ok, I understood so far.
11:37:08 <fell> But I fear, it is becoming too complex with patches&requests coming on mailing lists, bugzilla and github.
11:37:37 <jralls> We want to discourage the ones from mailing lists. Those get lost.
11:39:56 <fell> Excepition: language specific tasks like account structure templates, tax tables, translations of documentations.
11:41:31 <fell> At least for, de we make the first review and discussion on gnucash-de because of specific terms which are hard to retranslate.
11:44:10 <warlord> I think that's fine. But for general patches we should encourage bugzilla entries. I think github pull requests should be secondary
11:46:14 <warlord> pull requests on github probably wont get lost as easily as mailing list messages, but then it means we have two trackers, theoretically

12:27:01 <jralls> fell: Yeah, I saw that. I have trouble believing that it was the only problem, in part because Win32 is also more responsive this morning, though the nightly still hasn't finished.

12:27:17 <jralls> And it didn't write the "I've started" file, either. Sigh.
12:28:48 <fell> Last night, it was terrible. I got many http timeouts.
12:31:53 <warlord> jralls: Nope, not yet. it's running through cycle #3 right now.

13:09:06 <gregg4567> New to this chat IRC. Have a payroll question. How do I stop having to put my employee's address in each time?
13:09:27 <gregg4567> New to gnucash too -- relatively.
13:11:58 <gregg4567> For employees -- I have just been entering a new entry with multiple split accounts. This works well, but just like vendors, the addresses have to be entered each time.
13:14:03 <gregg4567> I guess I just don't understand the vendor and employee procedures from the instructions. Is there a better reference simplified explanation to get me started? Thanks
13:15:25 <warlord> gregg4567: what exactly are you trying to do/... where are you entering addresses s.t. you have to enter them "each time"?
13:16:07 <gregg4567> warlord: sorry, thanks, good Q. When I print the check.
13:17:23 <warlord> AHHH!
13:17:28 <gregg4567> If I print a check to someone the same individual, especially when I copy the entry, I am wondering why the address for that individual/company does not automatically show up.
13:17:38 <warlord> No, GnuCash does not store addresses for check-printing.
13:17:56 <warlord> Check-printing isn't tied to anything.
13:17:58 <warlord> Sorry.
13:18:35 <gregg4567> warlord: so, you assume am I using gnucash wrong, like not using the employees and vendor modules right? Might be the case.
13:18:57 <warlord> No, I am making no such assumption.
13:19:07 <warlord> GnuCash has no data storage for addresses for checking-printing
13:19:28 <warlord> As I said, Check-printing isn't tied to anything.
13:19:38 <gregg4567> Ah, not even if you are using the business/vendor or business/employee menu items?
13:20:00 <gregg4567> fair enough. Good to know. I thought I did not understand it.
13:20:06 <gregg4567> Thanks
13:20:30 <warlord> You're welcome. Sorry.
13:23:26 <gregg4567> No prob. If I have sometime when I am 90, I will fix this bug/add this feature. For now, simpler to do it manually.
13:25:39 <warlord> ok
13:30:45 *** wol has joined #gnucash
13:31:29 <gregg4567> Thats what I like about open source. If it is important enough, you can fix it. If it is proprietary, and support says it can't be done or wont be done, SOL.
13:32:58 <gregg4567> I contacted a proprietary published and told them I would help them figure out how to make WINE work with their program so Linux could run it. They would not even let me help them with it. Not interested. Seems stupid to me.
13:33:09 <gregg4567> warlord: thanks for the help
13:35:46 <warlord> you're welcome

Is there anything I am missing? Any help is appreciated
