14:33:59 <boilthreetimes> (trying again) i'm inheriting a non-profit (my baseball league) which was managed in Simply Accounting. A feature my mentor used was 'projects', whereby (example) the food-and-beverage account was used for different meetings, social events. He could then print an income summary report for each project, and the portion of the food-and-beverage account that was tagged to that project would appear.
14:34:03 <boilthreetimes> Can I do this in GnuCash? Or, should I have a meeting-food-and-beverage, social-event-1-food-and-beverage, ...?

16:04:04 <warlord> boilthreetimes: alas, gnucash does not have 'tags' (what's sometimes called projects or classes..) So for now yes, your best bet would be to duplicate the account structures for each 'project'
16:04:06 <warlord> sorry.

18:01:46 <david> hi I am trying to print out a budget report for a budget in Gnucash 2.4.13 in windows. Somehow I succeeded a few months ago and I was able to convert the html output to ods format in a way that I could use Open Office to print the report on several sheets that are easy to read. Now, I am trying to do it again and I cannot force open office to spread the report over more than one sheet. ...
18:01:48 <david> ...Can someone help me with this?
18:03:46 *** gjanssens has quit IRC
18:10:58 <david> I just tried again using release 2.4.11 in Ubuntu and trying to open the html file with LibreOffice calc, save it in ods format then try to select a print range to print over several sheets, but even though I can make the page break preview show 6 sheets, the print preview shows 6 pages that do not match the page break preview
18:10:59 <warlord> david: Are you importing into spreadsheet or text? Is the issue the import, or exporting from gnucash?
18:11:35 <warlord> that sounds like an OOo/LO issue, not a gnucash issue.
18:14:30 <david> I think that either I am using a different procedure today than I did last year, or both OO and LO have changed. I can still open the old ods files and work with them, but I want to print a new budget
18:15:10 *** Krzysiek_K has left #gnucash
18:15:23 <warlord> Why can't you print directly from GnUCash?
18:17:19 <david> I am wondering if I am just overlooking something. If I print directly from Gnucash the entire budget appears on two sheets in type that is so tiny that I need a magnifying glass to read it
18:25:46 <david> so I am trying to export the report in html, then somehow convert the html to ods. I somehow did it in a way that worked twice last year
18:28:55 *** StuM has quit IRC
18:28:59 <david> I think that I started OO Calc and then used file open to directly open the html file. that almost works now, but the normal print range selection seems to fail
18:29:32 <warlord> david: It sounds to me like your import is different, or your configuration in OOo/LO is different. I dont think GnuCash changed, unless you made a major upgrade to gnucash since the last time?
18:29:35 *** StuM has joined #gnucash
18:29:57 <david> right
18:30:35 <david> I know gnucash did not change I was using the same version then
18:32:47 <david> can you suggest a method to print the budget report over more pages so the font is not so tiny?
18:41:02 <david> i am waiting to update to 2.6.3 after more of the recent bugs are fixed
18:47:00 <david> it is really frustrating to see the ods files that
18:47:04 <david> i
18:47:13 <david> oops
18:47:56 <david> last year i did it, but now it seems that I cannot do it again

18:53:36 <david> I could not find help at OO for print range selection issues, or even figure out how to describe the issue accurately. It seems that the print preview does not match the page break preview.

19:04:41 <warlord> david: it sounds like an OOo issue, not a GNC issue.
19:04:57 <warlord> Try printing to PDF from GnuCash, and then use a PDF Viewer to 'expand' the page to multiple pages?
19:08:21 *** amjam has quit IRC
19:18:49 <david> I think that I will search the OO forums again. PDF format does not have flexibility of the spreadsheet formats when they are working properly.

23:48:15 <amjam> that I don't know the answer to.
