11:41:38 <warlord> SteveG: FYI, I think that you could have answered Lynx's question by suggesting a P&L Report, or possibly just a transaction report summerizing the accounts in question. The question really is asking for "Tags", (e.g. Classes), but GnuCash does not have that functionality.
11:43:36 <SteveG> Thanks. That does make sense except I have not heard about tags and classes in this context before.
11:44:49 <warlord> Classes are a Quicken concept.
11:45:47 <warlord> Tags are a generalization of that -- the ability to tag a transaction (or more accurately a split) -- and Tags would work sort of like accounts.. So you could have a split go into "multiple buckets"
11:47:04 <warlord> (tags do not currently exist)
11:48:34 <SteveG> Interesting. Got to go but will pick up any messages later, Steve
11:48:52 <warlord> enjoy

14:50:00 <warlord> well, geeze, if you don't stick around for more than a minute how do you expect to get an answer?!?
14:53:24 <jralls> He says to thin air... ;-)
14:54:52 <jralls> gjanssens: Geert, about bug 725536, I think you're looking at the problem the wrong way. The user is just that, a user. He doesn't want to use the Python bindings, he wants GnuCash not to raise the error.
14:57:21 <warlord> yeah, well... gotta vent sometimes ;)
14:57:30 <jralls> ISTM the Fedora packager screwed up and compiled in Python support but didn't modify the default sys.path to find gnucash/__init__.py.
15:03:14 <jralls> Or, since it appears that it's supposed to install into site-packages, he didn't include that part of the installation in the rpm.

15:25:02 <gjanssens> jralls: he's on Kubuntu, but I agree on the principle.
15:25:22 <gjanssens> I was just trying to get the exact information he could report as a bug upstream

15:47:17 <jralls> OK, .deb instead of rpm. Still, the packager screwed up.
15:47:46 <jralls> Oh, and packagers are _down_stream. Upstream would be e.g. Gtk.
15:48:02 *** phi1010 has quit IRC
15:50:50 <jralls> Geert, different subject: I discovered yesterday that jhbuild works with Cygwin. There are tons of compile issues because Cygwin's environment is screwy, but the functionality is there.
16:05:07 <hampton> Hiya warlord. I was catching up on sysadmin email this morning and saw that my nightly rsync backup of the svn tree started failed after your upgrade last month. Any reason for me to keep the old svn backup info around now that you've switched to github?
16:05:39 *** jmd has quit IRC
16:06:59 <warlord> hiya hampton
16:07:01 <warlord> LTNS!
16:07:18 <hampton> LTNS?
16:07:20 <warlord> At this point... I don't see a reason to keep backing up svn.
16:07:25 <hampton> oh yeah. ltns
16:07:26 <warlord> Long Time No See
16:08:14 <warlord> Does the rsync not work anymore?
16:08:24 <warlord> Or is the issue the ssh key change?
16:08:28 <hampton> Yup. I added the new server key and discovered that I couldn't ssh in anymore.
16:08:49 <warlord> What happens when you tr?
16:08:51 <warlord> try?
16:09:05 <hampton> Permission denied on /usr/bin/rssh.
16:09:28 <warlord> What command are you using?
16:09:51 <warlord> I see ssh accepting the pubkey
16:09:53 <hampton> That time, just ssh. Let me try the rsync command.
16:10:26 <warlord> Ah, yes, that would be rssh denying shell access.
16:11:04 <hampton> Same thing, as I'm using ssh transport. Here's the full command: rsync -e ssh -avz svn.gnucash.org::svnroot .
16:11:24 <hampton> One of the commands... I have a script.
16:13:17 <warlord> Hmm... rssh should allow rsync..
16:13:43 <hampton> Doesn't really matter since the svn tree is dead.
16:14:00 *** fell has quit IRC
16:14:04 <hampton> Unless there's something else you want me to back up.
16:16:36 <warlord> Hmm.. what happens if you just run: rsync -e ssh svn.gnucash.org:

16:46:04 <warlord> hampton: it looks like the issue *might* be the rsync/ssh configuration for our users. I might need to go to the old code to see what I did before. But it would help if you could run that command and tell me what it says.
16:46:53 <warlord> (I verified that anonymous rsync is configured properly, but I have the port shut off)
16:55:47 <hampton> Sorry, dragged away to help plan an 80th b-day party.
16:56:00 <hampton> I get the same error message when I try that command.
17:00:45 <warlord> which error? the rssh error?
17:01:02 <hampton> Yes the rssh permission denied error.
17:03:11 <warlord> Hmm... What happens if you try to use scp?>
17:05:09 <hampton> I get the same rssh permission denied error.
17:07:59 <warlord> Hmmm......
17:08:43 <warlord> I know that rssh is working for the upload user.

17:14:25 <warlord> Which account are you using?
17:15:02 <warlord> (and do you mind if I add my ssh key to your account?)
17:21:43 <gjanssens> jralls: right packagers are downstream
17:22:04 <gjanssens> and nice to know jhbuild works in cygwin
17:22:18 <gjanssens> it might be an alternative path for gnucash on windows
17:22:41 <gjanssens> although it's not clear to me if cygwin supports working with a native installer
17:22:59 <gjanssens> ISTR you always need a cygwin environment set up
17:23:23 <gjanssens> That's all for tonight, got to go...
17:23:26 <warlord> IIRC cygwin does not work "standalone" like msys does
17:23:37 *** gjanssens has quit IRC
17:24:40 <hampton> I'm using my 'hampton' account. Feel free t add to the authorized_keys file.
17:26:44 <warlord> thanks, hampton
17:28:43 <warlord> AHA!
17:29:35 <warlord> I think I figured it out.. Give me a moment to test.
17:34:19 <warlord> Okay, I fixed the permission problem.
17:35:48 <warlord> Now the question is why the rsync group names aren't working.
17:43:55 *** wol has joined #gnucash
17:52:24 <hampton> Ack the permission fix.
17:53:18 <warlord> great.
17:53:39 <warlord> Now to figure out what I did before to get rsync to use the ssh config vs non-ssh config.
17:53:58 <warlord> (unless your scripts are working for you now?)
17:55:17 <hampton> No. I get rsync unexpectedly closed... error in rsync protocol
17:59:25 <warlord> right.. if you leave off the :svnroot you'll get ... something interesting
18:00:48 <hampton> A recursive listing of a home directory?
18:01:06 <warlord> yeah
18:01:23 <warlord> So what's missing now is the rsync.conf for ssh users.
18:14:32 *** wol has quit IRC
18:32:00 <warlord> Aha... The old system was using cvssh, which pointed rsync specifically to a different config file. rssh does not appear to support that.

18:34:40 <warlord> or, rather, let me see if rssh supports that..
