08:38:16 <gjanssens> warlord: the build server can't upload anymore to code.gnucash.org
08:40:04 <gjanssens> scp -r <build-logs-dir> upload@code.gnucash.org:/public_html/win32 ends with "lost connection"
08:40:32 <gjanssens> Can you check this ?
08:41:51 <gjanssens> Did you readd the public key for the build server in the authorized keys file ?
08:48:06 <warlord> gjanssens: Hmm.. What happens if you run 'ssh -v'?
08:48:46 <warlord> gjanssens: SSH is accepting it. I think the issue is rssh.
08:51:06 <warlord> gjanssens: It is possible that I didn't clear out the old known_hosts config...
08:52:45 <gjanssens> warlord: I fixed the known hosts file on the build server and accepted the new server key
08:52:46 <warlord> Hmm... scp isn't working.
08:53:00 <warlord> (I added myself to upload's authorized keys)
08:58:55 <warlord> Ssh is accepting it, and the key, rssh is allowing the scp.. but then it dies. I'm not sure what's going on. I'm trying to debug.
09:04:05 <gjanssens> ok
09:04:25 <gjanssens> selinux ?
09:07:07 <warlord> Nope.
09:07:12 <warlord> (disabled)
09:07:16 <warlord> It's a chroot issue.
09:11:49 <gjanssens> oh ok
09:17:48 <warlord> At least that's all I can surmise. If I run 'chroot /home/chroot scp' i get an error
09:23:12 <warlord> Here's what I get:
09:23:15 <warlord> chroot /home/chroot /usr/bin/bash
09:23:15 <warlord> chroot: failed to run command ‘/usr/bin/bash’: No such file or directory
09:23:31 <warlord> But...
09:23:53 <warlord> ls -l /home/chroot/usr/bin/bash
09:23:53 <warlord> -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 917568 Aug 9 2013 /home/chroot/usr/bin/bash
09:29:50 <warlord> AHA! Got it.
09:30:04 <gjanssens> The aha erlebnis...
09:30:12 <warlord> Two things missing. /dev/null and /lib/ld-linux.so.2
09:30:15 <warlord> Now it's working.
09:30:27 <gjanssens> ok, I'll start another build to see what happens
09:31:47 <warlord> Or just run the upload commmand manually.
09:32:06 <warlord> (would probably be a better idea to just run the scp by hand to make sure it works)
09:32:16 <warlord> ... it worked for me, however, so it should work for the build server
09:33:00 <gjanssens> The build got past the initial scp at least
09:33:12 <gjanssens> So that issue should be fixed
09:33:16 <gjanssens> Good work :)
09:34:13 <warlord> Thanks. Sorry it took 2 weeks for anyone to notice.
09:34:26 <gjanssens> ..and now that I've got your attention ;)
09:34:28 <gjanssens> Cristian Marchi asked about jobs on the mailing list (why customer/vendor jobs are separate)
09:34:41 <gjanssens> Can you reply to him ?
09:35:03 <gjanssens> It was Cristian that did notice by the way
09:37:01 <warlord> Yes, I will respond today.. Catching up from a long weekend.
09:37:16 <warlord> (and spending way way WAY too much money this weekend)
09:38:23 <gjanssens> LOL
09:38:33 <gjanssens> I hope at least you had good fun then
09:39:05 <gjanssens> Cool
09:40:08 <warlord> Thanks. Of course now I need to do things like, oh, move my Kegerator into the basement.. Which means I need to figure out how to cool 4 meters of beer line and also deal with the pressure differences to lift the beer up.
09:45:49 <warlord> So I get to spend even more money.. :-/
09:46:09 <warlord> At least I have GnuCash to keep reminding me how much I spent ;)

10:49:45 <warlord> OKay, those 1000 handled. Now the other half... :-/
10:50:07 <gjanssens> Only replying to the unhandled gnucash list mails took me almost a day...

12:27:10 <brianjaod> what's the best way to track credit card merchant fees? as a normal expense, COGS, other? thanks
12:29:44 <jralls> It's a selling expense. COGS is where you transfer the inventory value when you sell something.
12:30:36 <brianjaod> ok, so just the same as like a bank fee or something?
12:32:19 <jralls> Not usually: Bank fees are usually charged to G&A. The merchant fee decreases your realized profit and gross margin, so you want it tied to the sale of the item.
12:33:34 <jralls> Similar to a commission, if that's how you pay your sales reps.
12:33:45 *** jmd has joined #gnucash
12:34:41 <brianjaod> got ya, ok. thanks!
12:35:21 <jralls> Though ISTR some companies aggregate selling expenses with G&A and call it S, G&A. Makes their gross look better, but deludes management.
12:36:16 *** MechtiIde has joined #gnucash
12:38:41 <brianjaod> yeah, that's why i thought it might go under cogs. i've heard both arguments before. the argument for cogs is that it could be viewed as an integral "component" to the sale. but at the same time, i also see the argument of it being a normal expense
12:40:13 *** benoitg has joined #gnucash
12:44:19 <jralls> No, COGS is entirely different. When you build or buy your stock, the cost is aggregated into an asset account, Inventory. When you sell an item, the value of the item is transferred from Inventory to COGS. Gross margin = (Selling price - Selling Expenses-COGS)/COGS. If you wrap selling expenses into COGS you'll distort your margin calculation and fool yourself.

12:47:39 <brianjaod> i agree, that totally makes sense. thanks for the clarification. as i've searched around about this topic, i'm surprised to see just how many companies put it under cogs, even though it seems to make more sense as an expense.
12:53:05 <jralls> Companies play games with their books all the time. They think they're fooling the shareholders, or the analysts, but they wind up fooling themselves and making bad decisions as a result. I saw it all the time when I worked in manufacturing.
12:54:44 <jralls> One of the favorite tricks in companies with high fixed costs was to build more stuff than they could sell which spread out the fixed costs over more widgets and so lowered the unit cost. Makes gross margins look better, but you eventually have to write off the excess inventory.
12:56:01 <brianjaod> yeah, bogus
