08:00:47 <xordis> Not sure if people are around. I asked a question earlier but got disconnected so I am not sure if there was a reply. This is a repeat so sorry about that.
08:00:52 <xordis> New gnucash user here. I am trying to understand invoicing. I have setup a customer/invoice correctly. I then post the invoice (date in the past). Then processed the payment at the date they paid it. That is all good. However the record in my Income:Sales and Liabilities:Tax is of the post date, not the payment date. This messes up my profit and loss report
08:00:56 <xordis> as the post date was prior to the last financial year
08:01:02 <xordis> Is their a way to have the income/taxes recorded at the payment date instead of the post date?
08:17:37 <warlord> xordis: When you use Invoicing you are using Accrual Accounting.
08:17:37 <gncbot> warlord: Sent 3 hours and 50 minutes ago: <gjanssens> got your message, the easiest would be if me or you were allowed to log into svn-mirror. Let's propose this to linas
08:18:14 <warlord> so, no.... There needs to be a report to do that, but nobody has since written it.
08:18:26 <warlord> (In my experience it only happens at year-end)
08:19:43 <xordis> I assume you are talking about my question. So yeah, fin year end it is the main concern. I am guessing the solution is to have the split from the original post share the same date as the payment day. I am no accountant so I am not sure how this works in the real world.
08:20:27 <warlord> No, the solution is to manually "move" the income/tax for unpaid invoices
08:20:51 <warlord> (e.g. when you report them)
08:21:21 <warlord> I.e., "hey, look, I've got $1000 of unpaid invoices. This means I have $1000 of unacquired income/tax-liability.. "
08:21:35 <warlord> Talk to your accountant.
08:21:42 <warlord> They can tell you how to properly do it.
08:21:48 * warlord has to go again.
08:22:06 <xordis> no worries. I will have a word next time I am there.
08:22:09 <warlord> gjanssens_: there's a change I might be late to my 1300 target.. I'll send email and post a news item.

13:49:23 <\Mike> So I guess the "Type" is supposed to be "FUND", but the "Full name" that I can find does not seem to be found when clicking "get quotes".
13:50:12 <\Mike> I set it up to use Multiple sources, "Europe".
14:05:23 *** fell__ is now known as fell
14:07:08 <fell> \Mike: For fetching quotes you need the right symbol for your desired source.
14:08:14 <fell> And choose one real source. Europe makes not much sense, as Yahoo uses other symbols as ASX or ...
14:09:52 <fell> samael: for the account templates you need to set LANG.
14:11:00 <fell> I would suggest LANGUAGE=it_IT.utf8 LANG=$LANGUAGE gnucash
14:11:28 *** jmd` has joined #gnucash
14:11:37 <\Mike> I just don't know where to find the proper symbol. I find the fund in question in various lists, but only by full name.
14:11:59 <fell> (utf8 is more powerfull than the ISO charsets)
14:12:57 <fell> \Mike can you tell me wich?
14:14:30 <fell> NP as long as it is indogermanic ;-)
14:15:42 <\Mike> I have also tried to use that bank alone as the source
14:17:57 <fell> man Finance::Quote::SEB
14:18:06 *** jmd` has quit IRC
14:18:25 <fell> So yes, you need the full name.
14:18:53 <\Mike> That did not work, I'm afraid.
14:19:25 <\Mike> That was the first thing I tried.
14:20:39 <fell> in the symbol field?
14:20:54 <\Mike> Yes
14:21:47 <\Mike> "Unable to retrieve quotes for these items:
14:21:48 <\Mike> FUND:Robur Bas Mix
14:21:50 <\Mike> Continue using only the good quotes?"
14:23:55 <\Mike> With and without the name of the issuing bank.
14:25:54 <fell> gnc-fq-dump -v seb_funds "Robur Bas Mix"
14:26:09 <fell> returns Fund name not found
14:30:47 <fell> the ISIN is SE0001285362SEK
14:31:00 <\Mike> Yes. Can I use that somehow?
14:31:43 <fell> google for it, if there are other sources or try it on yahoo
14:38:47 <\Mike> No luck. Oh, well. It was worth a try.
14:41:40 <fell> I have the impression the seb_funds module is broken as I get no result for the man page example "SEB Aktiesparfond", too.
14:46:50 <\Mike> Hm, man gnc-fq-dump doesn't evenmention the seb_funds option.
14:47:42 <fell> gnc-fq-check
14:48:05 <\Mike> ah
14:48:10 <\Mike> thanks
14:50:13 <fell> we made a mistake above: ISIN is SE0001285362; that returns more results on google.
14:56:47 <\Mike> Sure, I've found other pages like http://www.netfonds.no/quotes/about.php?paper=SE0001285362SEK.MFEX&help=t , but none of the capitalization variants I've found that way have succeeded
14:57:44 <\Mike> oops, http://www.netfonds.no/quotes/about.php?paper=SE0001285362SEK.MFEX
15:00:02 <fell> But IIRC we have no F::Q module for netfonds
15:00:38 <\Mike> No, but if I get an official name that way...?
15:01:47 <fell> They name it "Swedbank Robur: Bas Mix"
15:06:28 <\Mike> Yes, I've tried that. With and without the colon.
15:06:55 <\Mike> I've tried an old name (the fund's name was changed back in 2011-2012)
15:07:25 <\Mike> I've tried variants of capitalization, but I'm concluding that it's unfindable....
15:10:01 <samael> jmd: the rest (menus and so forth) are in italian
15:11:29 <samael> fell: just tried, both the variables are set to it_IT.utf8, when creating a new file the wizard still propose account names in english
15:11:41 <samael> am I missing something?
15:14:29 <samael> (yes, locale -a shows it_IT.utf8 - even tried with it_IT@euro, but nothing changes)
15:24:41 <\Mike> fell: another question about creating fund accounts: when I create an account for a pre-existing fund, it automatically creates two extra "Trading" accounts, which starts out in the red. This looks different from the "Concepts Guide", which only shows two lines in that transaction. Why the difference?

16:04:20 <samael> fell: just put LC_* and LANG* to it_IT and bang! it works. it sounds like LANG is not the variable I need. thanks, anyway!
16:06:36 <fell> Hm, IIRC LC_* use LANG, if they are not set explicitly.
16:07:12 <fell> Most I know is in http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Locale_Settings
16:15:06 <samael> oh, I do have them explicitly set (all of them to en_US). but it seems that once created the accounts and saved the file, then I can go with LANG and LANGUAGE alone, so i'm done
16:15:24 <samael> fell: thank you again!
16:15:39 <fell> welcome!
16:16:12 <fell> BTW: why are you using en_US in IT?
16:27:20 *** telenieko has joined #gnucash

16:27:56 <telenieko> hi ppl. I just downloaded de Mac bundle of the latest version and noticed a) look and feel is freaking ugly and b) interface does not respond to any clicks :(
16:30:49 <fell> Questions about Mac are best answered by jralls.
16:35:14 <telenieko> Thanks, I'll stick around then for a while (unless this thing decides to suspend itself! :D)
16:37:03 <jralls> Not much I can do about ugly, I'm afraid. I've tried using a nicer theme and it caused a bit of instability, so I decided not to unleash it on users.
16:38:06 <telenieko> jralls if I go about compilling it (I have macports) will I get a nicer interface?
16:38:37 <telenieko> I saw the gnucash on macports is a bit outdated ;\
16:38:41 *** samael has quit IRC
16:39:34 <jralls> No, it will be the same. You can play around with themes a bit if you want. Make sure to call your gtkrc ~/.gtkrc-2.0.gnucash.
16:39:58 <telenieko> ok, I'll play around!
16:40:03 <telenieko> what about the app not responding to clicks?
16:40:15 <jralls> As for not responding, make sure there isn't a dialog open. They sometimes go behind the main window.
16:41:16 <jralls> I'm using it right now on 10.9, and I checked it on 10.5 and 10.6.
16:41:34 <jralls> So I don't think that there's anything broken in the bundle.
16:42:46 <telenieko> yep, it's working now
16:43:14 <telenieko> thanks :)
16:46:05 <telenieko> is python support build on the bundle?
16:48:12 <jralls> No, it's too hard because each OSX version ships with a different Python version. You have to build it yourself for that unless the MacPorts port includes it.
16:48:37 <jralls> I guess MacPorts is building it yourself.
16:48:51 <telenieko> macports does but it's still on 2.4, I'll build it then if I need py support :) thanks!!
