01:53:21 <PaulFertser> warlord: But my account names depend on LC_MESSAGES (I have it =C), and are "data/person-specific" so should be fine. But locale weekday... It might also occassionally errorneously match to e.g. Friday's receipts, right?

02:42:20 <arlie> I'm lost in report land; trying to get a picture of change in assets over time, with numbers - closest I've gotten so far is income & expenses report
02:44:16 <arlie> err - I mean profit and loss; income and expenses is just a graph, and can't click or hover to get actual numbers
02:45:07 *** john has quit IRC
02:46:39 <arlie> even ancient versions of quicken could do what I want - but the report names don't mean anything to this non-accountant, and docs don't give samples, so really slow trying them all to find a useful one

09:29:27 <warlord> PaulFertser: No, your account names do not depend on LC_MESSAGES. If you change locale your account names are not changed. Try it and see. And no, "Friday" will not interact with "Friday's" -- two different tokens.

09:38:06 <warlord> CeBe1: Sorry, I don't speak German. But maybe fell can answer your question?
09:39:42 <PaulFertser> warlord: i mean initially the account names might be created based on locale, but that doesn't really make the gnucash file locale-dependent afaict. Can Friday interact with Friday 's or some other clash like that happen? Using those dayweek as tokens feels like a dirty hack to me.

09:47:56 *** Topcat has joined #gnucash
09:48:36 <warlord> I do agree that day-of-week probably shouldn't be added as a match token; I'm not sure why it was added. I guess some people always get paid on Friday or something. As for the gnucash datafile being locale dependent -- it is. SX formulae are definitely locale specific. And if you take an account tree created in German, I certainly wont be able to understand what the accounts are..

10:20:19 <CeBe1> fell: super, danke!

10:22:49 <fell> Das ist natürlich auch ein Aspekt. Viel Spaß noch!

10:30:51 <CeBe1> cool, danke
10:33:15 <fell> Warlord: we had some outdated translations of accounnt types in an example.
10:34:49 <warlord> fell: ah, okay.
10:34:59 <warlord> In the docs? In the wiki? ...
10:35:39 <fell> In above german wiki page - already fixed.

15:58:43 <mad> I import my account-movements into gnucash, everything works fine. But the thing is… sometimes I pay for things that I 'use up' over a longer period of time. For example I pay 100€ for 10 tickets to some event which I will use up in 4 to 20 months. The whole payment is done in month 0 and also my stats show all expenses on month 0.
15:59:47 <mad> I know the 'propper' way would be to add another asset-account called 'tickets' where I book the actual expense from every time I use one of the tickets.
16:00:31 <mad> But strictly speaking, I would also have to make a food-asset-account and book from it every time I take a box of milk out of my fridge. Which is somewhat stupid <.<
16:02:03 <mad> Is there a way to split up a transaction in a way that it is listed only on the one day (month 0 where I payed the money) but booked at different times?
16:02:19 <mad> Or do I really have to create a new asset-account for each of these cases?
16:05:30 <mad> Because the tickets are one example. I am also doing hall-climbing where I usually pay for 10 times climbing. Or right now my rental-operating-expenses, where I pay a regular fee and at the end of each year, the differential is calculated to the actual expenses and I have to pay additionally. And my rental-operation-expenses diagramm would have a peak at the end of the year then.
16:05:54 <mad> Creating an extra asset-account each time sounds somewhat annoying.

18:37:43 <shade304> what is the best way to print, export, or copy the "owners" or if I can be specific customers and or vendors? I'm after a list of zip codes right now, but also if I was going to mail statements it would be nice to get a contact list even better if only ones with a balance?
18:59:59 <warlord> mad: If you REALLY want to keep track of your outstanding tickets then yes, you would need an intermediate account and would need to book through it.
19:00:53 <warlord> In general you dont do that unless some tax entity requires you to do; the expense really is incurred when you bought the set of tickets. If you don't use them it's not like you get your money back.
19:01:17 <warlord> shade304: there's no good way to do that through the existing interfaces.
19:03:58 <warlord> You could run the aging reports to get a list of customers or vendors, but it only includes their names. You could use that report as a basis to get the info you want/need.
19:54:55 <shade304> ok
