17:16:10 <bhodgins> Hey everyone. New to cnucash, having a slight problem with an account. every time I fill out the information and specify say the numer in "deposit" and hit enter, it changes it to a withdrawl. Why does this happen?
17:19:05 <warlord> bhodgins: are you entering in a negative number?
17:19:17 <warlord> Or maybe it's auto-entering the counter-split?
17:19:44 <bhodgins> I think I figured it out
17:20:22 <bhodgins> I didn't realize that when I entered in the bank account in the Transfer column it was actually making a double entry of withrawl and deposit
17:20:58 <bhodgins> I first though transaction meant what acount should be modified, which I indeed thought was weird, and I was wrong :D
17:22:02 <bhodgins> not used to electronic balance handling, I guess.
17:23:23 <bhodgins> I have however been looking around for what the "R" column means, the one that toogles from n and c, it looks familiar..
17:24:04 <Joc> the tuturial included with GNUCash is very good, IMHO, it help me a lot to undersand what is real accounting and GC.
17:25:13 <Joc> r as in reconcile
17:28:19 <warlord> Ahhh.. if you're in your Bank account you should set the Transfer the Income or Expense account for the transaction (i.e., where the money is coming from or going to)
17:30:37 <warlord> And as Joc suggested, bhodgins, you should read the GnuCash Tutorial and Concepts Guide -- it's very good.

17:34:14 <bhodgins> wow, this software is amazing
17:34:40 <bhodgins> big livesaver over paper
17:35:25 <bhodgins> warlord: and I will do that, the tutorial that is, I've got the documentation online open at the moment but my network connection is misbehaving so I'm getting like 2 KB/s
17:38:01 *** ftjjk has joined #gnucash
17:38:02 <Joc> and can be a real money saver, it help me find some money that we were due and was not noticed before.
17:41:16 <bhodgins> I have to admit, the last time I used software like this was when I had Windows 3.1, I was probably 5 or so years old and the program was real, but oriented to teach kids money management

17:48:36 <Simon> is there a mechanism for renaming configuration options when migrating to a newer version?
17:48:43 *** fgwilliams has joined #gnucash
17:49:02 <Simon> there's a "gconf/dialogs/scheduled_trans/since_last_run/show_at_file_open" but it doesn't really do what its name suggests
17:49:19 <Simon> if I renamed it to "gconf/dialogs/scheduled_trans/since_last_run/run_at_file_open" it would likely break existing users' configurations
17:49:58 <Simon> I assume I'd need to add a "gconf/dialogs/scheduled_trans/since_last_run/show_window_at_file_open" instead?

17:57:15 <bhodgins> huh. I don't have a data format drop down when I save as, though I compiled gnucash with SQL support
