10:46:52 <cptnroger> Howdy folks, was wondering if someone could help me with a problem I'm encountering with Gnucash 2.4.12 on Windows 7 64-bit.
10:47:25 <cptnroger> On launch, the splash window appears, as does the "GnuCash Tip of the Day" window, but I immediately get a dialog informing me "gnucash.exe has stopped working".
10:48:25 <cptnroger> I have it running in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3), as well as running it as Administrator, but it still does not work.
10:48:43 <cptnroger> I have not been able to get it to work a single time as of yet.
10:48:53 <cptnroger> Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

11:29:07 <warlord> cptnroger: try 2.4.11? Does that work any better?
11:30:04 <cptnroger> warlord: I will give it a shot and report back.
11:30:27 <warlord> Make sure you uninstall 2.4.12 first..
11:30:46 <warlord> I'll note that 2.4.12 has not, yet, been officially released AFAIK.. Where did you get it from?
11:31:08 <cptnroger> http://www.gnucash.org/download.phtml lists it as being the latest stable release.
11:31:16 <cptnroger> Got it from the download link on that page.
11:33:24 <cphuntington97> I've never had to run gnucash in compatibility mode
11:34:12 <cphuntington97> but I haven't tried 2.4.12 yet.. (and now I'm afraid to!)
11:34:13 <cptnroger> Hmm, I appear to run into the same issue with 2.4.11.
11:35:59 <warlord> Okay, that implies it's something on your systemm.
11:36:05 <cptnroger> It would seem so.
11:36:19 <cptnroger> Are there any dependencies I'm not aware of, perhaps?
11:36:27 <warlord> I know that 2.4.11 works fine for many people on win7/64..
11:36:39 <warlord> Shouldn't be... Unless you happen to have some other Gtk apps installed?
11:36:41 <cptnroger> Additionally, I am installing Gnucash to a separate hard drive than my system drive, could that contribute?
11:37:03 <warlord> Possibly? You could try putting it on C:
11:37:29 <cptnroger> I'll give that a shot. I do have other Gtk apps installed, such as Pidgin.
11:37:53 <warlord> Make sure your other GTK apps have not added themselves to your system %PATH%
11:38:23 <warlord> That's been a thorn in the side, where the runtime linker finds a different version of the .dll because of the system environment.
11:39:15 <cptnroger> That may have been the issue!
11:39:31 <cptnroger> Yes, it appears so.
11:40:37 <warlord> ok, now try .12 :)
11:40:49 <cptnroger> Yep, just installed .12. Works great.
11:40:56 <warlord> excellent
11:41:57 <cptnroger> In summary, the issue was not that I installed it to a separate hard drive, or that I was running it in compatibility mode. Rather, the issue stemmed from the fact that I had a folder in my PATH which contained a separate version of Gtk in it than the one used by Gnucash. Removing that folder (Denemo, an application I don't use anyways), fixed my problem.
11:42:02 <cptnroger> Thanks for the assistance, warlord.
11:42:26 <warlord> you are welcome!
11:44:16 <cptnroger> And now I can finally use FOSS software to manage my finances, as opposed to Excel. Life is good.

13:58:06 <slidesinger> Exporting the technicolor printable invoice to html, then sending via email or opening remotely across the web, the logo is lost. Iceweasel is not giving me a view source option, either, so I can't see what it is looking for or how to fix this. Suggestions?
13:58:09 *** arrainey has quit IRC
13:59:18 <slidesinger> Never mind. I just realized I'm missing the obvious.
14:03:06 <slidesinger> Nope, still broken. Hmmmm.
14:26:35 *** jmd has joined #gnucash
14:26:47 <warlord> slidesinger: how about printing to PDF and sending that?
14:28:30 <slidesinger> I can do and have done that. What I'm trying to do, though, is to have it on a private internet share. That way the customer can access all their invoices at any given time instead of emailing me they lost it again. html is like 10 times smaller than pdf, so it would cost me less.
14:31:18 <slidesinger> gnucash does not seem to allow linking to a web page from the style sheet, either, which would solve the problem.
14:32:45 <slidesinger> I think I can solve this with symbolic links.
14:33:11 <slidesinger> Maybe.
14:40:59 <warlord> Yeah, it's not really designed to do what you want to do.
14:41:01 <slidesinger> Nope, apparently this is just not doable.... No matter where I get the image from, the link seems to be hard coded to the same directory.... /var/gnucash/custom/image.png
14:43:00 <slidesinger> So it would seem the only way to make the html work is to put a web server on the same machine as gnucash, so that it can point to and find the hard coded path.
14:45:42 <slidesinger> Which is frankly far more trouble than it is worth.
14:46:39 <slidesinger> Or, I can write a shell script that uses grep and sed to alter them all before upload. That might be the best way to go.
14:47:55 <slidesinger> I can add it to the same script with the rsync stuff and have it hard code to a directory in the web site.
14:48:42 <slidesinger> THE BEAUTY OF LINUX.... it can do what the mind can conceive, it just may take a little work on your part.
14:48:50 <slidesinger> Thanks.
14:57:51 <fell> slidesinger: IIRC you can edit the path in the report options.

16:24:35 <slidesinger> Not squeeze, wheezy.
16:28:39 <warlord> ... and by then we'll probably have 2.6 out ;)

20:57:36 <GNUCashNoob> Heyas... Silly question, but how would one go about linking accounts? For example, if one waned to create an aggregate account like retained earnings that would equal the amount of the total net income for a company minus their dividends...
20:58:31 <GNUCashNoob> Would I need to make a second transaction for everything? Or can I just link things?
