02:28:04 <Ais> Hi! I would like to ask if there is a way that an amount transferred to a parent account would automatically distributed to its child accounts. Where the distribution of the amount to its child accounts has different ratio or percent it will be distributed but also been set beforehand.
02:28:04 <Ais> For example, I moved 1000 to the parent account that has 5 child accounts. Child A always gets a constant value of 300. The rest of the amount, 700, are distributed in Child B, Child C, Child D, Child E but based on hierarchy. Child B gets 40%, Child C gets 30%, Child D gets 20%, & Child E gets 10% of the 700. Also, the child accounts will stop getting a transferred amount when it reached a certain amount. Like if Child B reached 3000, on the next transfer
02:28:04 <Ais> , Child B gets 0%, Child C gets 43.33%, Child D gets 33.33%, Child E gets 23.33% of the difference of Child A & the transferred account.
02:28:07 <Ais> Again, that is just an example. There can be more or less than 1000 as the value transferred, more or less than one child getting a constant value & more or less than 5 child accounts.
02:28:10 <Ais> I need to have something like this so that I can have savings set for emergencies or investments & other items that I plan to save up to buy, etc.
02:28:13 <Ais> Is this possible to incorporate in GNUCash? Would it be possible to ask how? Can somebody please point me out where I can start searching for something like this? My main OS is a GNU/Linux distro, specifically Linux Mint 13 XFCE 64bit. I code for a living so I don't mind programming a script for this.

07:35:12 <warlord> Ais: Sorry, no, GnuCash does not have that functionality.l
07:36:12 <Ais> warlord, is there a way where I can script it up or something?
07:36:15 <warlord> Ais: There is no way I can think of that you could script it. However you could augment the existing Scrub code to add some auto-splitting .
07:37:06 <Ais> Oh, does that mean I should compile from source to attain such functionality?
07:37:26 <warlord> It would take modifying the account object to add the rule(s) (not sure how to store that). And then it would require changing the Scrub code to honor those rules.
07:37:26 <Ais> warlord: This? --> http://svn.gnucash.org/docs/HEAD/group__Scrub.html
07:37:36 <warlord> Yes
07:38:04 <warlord> However you'd have to be careful that the it only manipulated on deposits, not withdrawals...
07:38:24 <warlord> There's a LOT of corner cases where it could be wrong, I think.
07:39:07 <Ais> Hmmm...
07:39:57 <warlord> More likely you're better off creating the splits once and using autofill to duplicate that transaction -- although that works best with stable deposits
07:40:31 <warlord> if your paycheck isn't stable then it wont work well that way (assuming the main deposit is a paycheck)
07:40:51 <Ais> Yeah, it's a paycheck, though random
07:41:01 <Ais> I mean, the values tend to be different every case
07:41:18 <warlord> extremely different? Or just off by a few cents?
07:46:47 <Ais> Extremely different
07:47:00 <Ais> Not just cents
07:47:09 <Ais> As bills being paid are also different per paycheck
07:47:29 <Ais> And some other occasions like celebrations and holidays etc

07:49:58 <warlord> your other option is to set up a variable sx to make the splits. then yu only need to fill in the amount when you run the sx.
07:50:19 <warlord> are the deposits on a regular schedule?
07:55:13 <Ais> Yeah, they are relatively in regular schedule
07:55:33 <Ais> Hmmm - but in the end, I should compile it from source?

08:28:16 <warlord> Ais: if the SX system works for you then no, you dont need to compile from source.

08:37:02 <Cavinaar> Hi all
08:38:19 <Cavinaar> How do I set up stocks? It keeps saying something about a financial module.
08:41:48 *** aqua___ has quit IRC
08:46:22 <warlord> Cavinaar: You need F::Q only to download price quotes. You don't need that to setup stock accounts.
08:47:19 <Cavinaar> I would actually like it to update the prices :)
08:49:50 <Cavinaar> I'll figure it out, I think there are just some things I need to do (digging through the documentation)
