03:12:03 <split> how to del an invoice/bill? tie an expense/income to a customer/vendor thru register(manual entry)? account for inventory and tie it to sales?
03:27:50 <gjanssens> You can't delete invoices/bills.
03:27:58 <gjanssens> If you made a wrong one, you can either
03:28:07 <gjanssens> - unpost it and mark it inactive
03:28:45 <gjanssens> - recycle it (unpost and use for another occasion, you can change everything while unposted, even the customer/vendor)
03:29:01 <gjanssens> I usually take the second option
03:31:12 <gjanssens> I don't think you can tie expense/income to a customer/vendor through the registry.
03:31:36 <gjanssens> You need to use the business menus to create invoices/bills.
03:31:54 <gjanssens> Those invoices/bills refer to income and expense items
03:32:30 <gjanssens> On the other hand, the development series comes with a feature to mark
03:33:11 <gjanssens> ordinary transactions in asset and bank accounts as a payment to/from a certain vendor/customer
03:33:46 <gjanssens> So if your income/expense transactions were directly linked to an asset or bank account,
03:34:03 <gjanssens> you will in the future be able to
03:34:09 <gjanssens> - create an invoice/bill
03:35:39 <gjanssens> - right-click the transaction in your asset/bank account
03:35:39 <gjanssens> - choose to use this as a payment for the respective customer/vendor
03:35:43 <gjanssens> Lastly, GnuCash doesn't have any inventory support.
03:36:11 <gjanssens> I know some people do it manually, but I have no experience with that, so I can't comment further
03:36:23 <gjanssens> You may want to inform on the gnucash-user mailing list as well
03:40:49 <split> thanks
03:43:23 <split> for the moment what i'm doing is: whenever an inventory item is sold, i record a purchase of it and tie its expense to the sale.

12:24:31 <warlord> gjanssens: here... let me check....
12:25:33 <warlord> gjanssens: it appears to be up afaict right now...
12:25:41 <warlord> Are you still having issues?
12:26:11 <warlord> gjanssens: Oh, wait, you mean the win32 / vmware build server...?? Let me check that.
12:30:33 <warlord> gjanssens: Yes, looks like the vmware mgmt server is dead. Let me restart it..
12:37:22 <warlord> gjanssens: fixed.. I can access the build server console now.
12:40:41 <gjanssens> Yes, works from here again as well
12:40:42 <gjanssens> tx
12:44:52 <warlord> You're welcome.
12:45:12 <warlord> FYI, I am free now for an hour or so .... unless tomorrow morning works for you?
12:45:50 <gjanssens> Tomorrow is ok (you missed my message from this morning)
12:46:11 <gjanssens> We have visitors in a couple of minutes
12:46:29 <warlord> Ah, yes, missed that one. 14h30 CEST is 12h30 UTC?
12:47:11 <gjanssens> Actually, I don't know
12:47:25 <warlord> run 'date' and then 'date -u' and compare the difference? ;)
12:47:26 <gjanssens> Right now it's 19h06 here
12:47:39 <gjanssens> What time do you have ?
12:47:46 <warlord> and it is 13h06 here. So ... 14h30 is 8h30 here.
12:47:56 <warlord> Er, no, 10h30.
12:48:16 <warlord> Er.... no.. I was right at first.. 08h30
12:48:29 <gjanssens> Good way to get confused ;)
12:48:35 <gjanssens> Is that too early ?
12:48:42 <gjanssens> Or too late ?
12:48:51 <warlord> no, I think I can make myself available then.. Baby gets me up around 7-7:30.
12:49:02 <gjanssens> Right :)
12:49:24 <gjanssens> A bit earlier or later doesn't really matter
12:49:35 <warlord> So yeah, 8:30 for ~2 hours or so works great. I'll block it off in my calendar. Do you think 2 hours is sufficient? And is there anything I should do ahead of time, like run an 'svn-git checkout'?
12:49:35 <gjanssens> When we both appear online, we can start
12:49:39 <warlord> Okay.
12:50:30 <warlord> In the calendar.
12:50:53 <gjanssens> If you want you can already follow the steps explained in http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Git#Setting_up_and_Maintaining_the_Mirror
12:50:56 <warlord> But if there are any tasks that will take a while that you think I should run now or start overnight, let me know and I can do it this afternoon.
12:51:11 <gjanssens> Cloning won't take much time, but running the svn_mirror script will
12:51:31 <warlord> Right...
12:51:45 <gjanssens> Preferable set up the git-svn mirror repos as the same user that controls the svn repos
12:51:51 <warlord> I'll look through the wiki page today.
12:51:58 <warlord> Well, it's not a 'user', it's a 'group'.
12:52:12 <warlord> (each svn user has their own UID, but all are members of 'group svn')
12:52:34 <gjanssens> That will allow us to access the svn repo directly via file:/// instead of over svn+ssh://
12:52:42 <gjanssens> I guess that will speed things up.
12:52:49 <warlord> Yep.
12:52:53 <warlord> It should.
12:53:13 <gjanssens> Keep this in mind when you set up the initial git sync in the git repo
12:53:59 <gjanssens> I mean, you can use the file:// url at that point already
12:55:24 <gjanssens> The user to own the svn-git repos should be able to read the svn repo (read-only is sufficient)
12:55:42 <gjanssens> Got to go, friends have arrived
12:56:02 <warlord> enjoy. Say hi to K for me
12:58:40 <gjanssens> Will do
12:59:49 * warlord is working on clearing the new 2TB disk before it replaces a 1TB disk in the raid array, so I can increase my available disk space.
13:00:07 <warlord> ... in the background. Started the process yesterday.

21:47:23 <warlord> @tell gjanssens The wiki instructions appear to be slightly wrong (or confusing). I did the git svn init but then I needed to run the git-svn-mirror update, not git-update, in order to pull from svn. Anyways I'm pulling both gnucash and gnucash-docs right now. I know it took jralls 10 days, but I'm hoping it'll be faster locally.
21:47:23 <gncbot> warlord: The operation succeeded.
21:48:05 <warlord> @tell gjanssens Anyways, we can continue on it more in the morning and see about doing the svn -> git/gitolite -> github...
21:48:05 <gncbot> warlord: The operation succeeded.
22:20:58 <yawar> warlord: thanks. i'll have to mention that in the docs
