11:30:10 <GiftdKook> hi
11:33:40 <GiftdKook> I have 2.4.10 working under debian such that when I click on a subaccount, the account register opens in a new tab. I am helping someone with gnucash 2.4.11 under Windows 7, but there, the account register opens as a new window. I have checked the documentation but can't figure out how to make the account register open as new tabs. How can I make the account register open as a new tab?
11:44:28 <warlord> It's a preference.
11:44:43 <warlord> (I dont remember where -- I have mine set to open a new window)
11:45:30 <warlord> GiftdKook: Edit -> Preferences -> Register Defaults
11:45:37 <warlord> Other Defaults
11:45:44 <warlord> [] Register opens in new window
12:04:01 *** calbasi has left #gnucash
12:10:42 <linas_> aieee we are getting slshdotted ...
12:11:45 <GiftdKook> warlord, thanks for the quick reply. I will check.
12:12:05 <warlord> linas_: hopefully in a good way?
12:12:35 <warlord> linas_: do you have the referrer URL? Don't we always get /.'ed around this time of year?
12:13:11 <GiftdKook> Right on. Working great!
12:13:35 <GiftdKook> Now, I just have to ensure that the end user is satisfied.
12:16:37 <warlord> :)
12:54:06 *** karl has joined #gnucash
12:56:20 <karl> I think I found the problem why Gnucash crashed when I attempted to change the currency of an account: In the file /etc/gnucash/environment I had defined LANG=de_CH (like the example nl_BE), but in fact it needs to be LANG=de_CH.UTF-8.
13:05:31 <warlord> Ah, that could do it.

13:16:46 <David> Hi. I have three bad transactions in a stock account that were supposed to reprecent capital gains in sales. I have revised the sale transactions to include the correct capital gain as lines within the sale transaction. Now, when I try to delete the bad transactions, the correct transactions also disappear.
13:17:10 *** donfede has quit IRC
13:21:48 <David> Using the repair transaction function did not fix the problem. Do I need to delete all the transactions and enter fresh sale transactions? If so, is it ok to commingle lots, as the first purchased lot was sold in two separate sales, then the second purchased lot was sold together with part of the first lot.
13:22:02 <linas_> warlord I think in a good way
13:22:42 <linas_> based on previous years, it seems that all new-years resolutions are acted on between dec 25 and 1 Jan.
13:23:00 <linas_> with 25 Dec being the annual web-traffic low and 1 jan being the annual high
13:23:25 *** donfede has joined #gnucash
13:24:31 <linas_> but I'm not seeing anny pattern to the referes today. Just reall heavy traffic
13:35:25 *** daniel_ has joined #gnucash
13:40:44 <warlord> David: you are confusing "split" with "transaction". A register view shows splits. So when you have multiple splits from one transaction into the same register, viewing that register will show the transaction multiple times.
13:40:49 *** wizkid239 has quit IRC
13:41:22 <warlord> so you only need to correct it once.. it's showing you both splits. If one is "incorrect" then you need to fix it in the one transaction, not delete it, because, as you noticed, it will delete the transaction (which includes both splits)
13:41:44 <warlord> linas_: odd, but interesting.
13:45:44 *** wizkid238 has joined #gnucash

13:48:11 <David> I know aboout the multiple appearances when ther are several lines of a split in the same account. A simple sale with a gain shaould appear twice in the stock account. However, in this case, the bad capital gains lines were in three separate transactions so that I was able to change the dates and see them appear on different days in a transaction report.
13:50:27 <David> Yet I have mow duplicated the two sale sale transactions, numbering them good1 and good 2. I numbered the five bad transactions bad 1 through bad 5
13:51:34 <David> then I deleted bad 1 and bad 2, and bad 3, bad 4 and bad 5 disappeared.
13:51:50 <warlord> are you using trading accounts?
13:52:12 <David> I haven't taken that step yet
13:52:20 <warlord> Hmm, because if you were, the scrubbing should do that for you./
13:53:45 <David> Now my trial balance report is still off by $62.80
13:54:34 <David> Maybe I need to check my math again
13:55:43 <daniel_> Hi. Is there a way to plot or report currency exchange rate over time? I've tried price scatterplot but doesn't work with trading accounts.
13:57:02 <David> Thanks, warlord. I will spend more time on this later.

13:57:43 <warlord> daniel_: Not sure why trading accounts would matter for that report.
13:57:54 <warlord> does it work with currencies even without trading accounts?
13:58:41 <daniel_> I've tried and the price scatterplot reads exchange rate from the old price editor.
14:02:15 <daniel_> if I populate the price editor with sample values, then those values are graphed. But as I'm using trading accounts, my real values are not graphed.
