11:46:47 <dale4948> I have downloaded GnuCash 2.4 recently, loaded it, ran it, but it will not load (start). I message I get is "The file file://C:\Documents and Settings\Dale Bulmer\gcashdata_4 could not be found." I uninstalled the program and downloaded a fresh copy. I did the same thing and got the same result. The program will not start. Help!
11:56:11 <warlord> dale4948: that means you deleted the data file..
11:56:27 <warlord> dale4948: Just click "OK". You'll need to start over (or with a backup file)
11:59:23 <warlord> ... gnucash remembers the last file it opened and will reopen it the next time gnucash starts. However you need to think of the datafile the same way you would think about a word or excel file.
11:59:38 <warlord> .. and if you delete it, well, it's gone. (modulo any backups gnucash created)

12:04:39 <jgmdev> is there a way to add predefined item descriptions with prices for use when creating new invoices?

12:23:26 <newgnu> Hi
12:24:43 <newgnu> I was wondering if someone could help me set up online access for a retirment account
12:25:05 <newgnu> I've looked quite a bit online but can't seem to figure it out
12:30:34 <warlord> jgmdev: nope. gnucash does not have an inventory system. sorry.
12:31:14 *** ecocode has joined #gnucash
12:31:24 <warlord> newgnu: it depends on what kind of 'online access'.
12:31:46 <warlord> and are you sure your financial institution provides it?
12:31:55 <newgnu> yeah, just got off the phone w/ them
12:32:20 <newgnu> plus, I've seen posts online of people getting it to work
12:32:27 <newgnu> but sadly, no instructions on how to do it
12:32:55 <newgnu> I just want to download something like current balance
12:33:06 <newgnu> even if I can't get the specific value of each mutual fund, etc
12:33:18 <warlord> gnucash doesn't download "current balance" -- it would only download transactions and compute the current balance.
12:33:34 <newgnu> is there a way to download those?
12:33:38 <warlord> Have you checked the wiki on setting up OFX?
12:33:47 <warlord> (I am assuming this is an OFX-DC queston)
12:33:47 <newgnu> yup, I got it to work just fine for my bank
12:33:51 <newgnu> yeah, it is
12:34:03 <warlord> Ah, duh.. AqB does not support investment accounts.
12:34:09 <warlord> sorry, I forgot about that.
12:34:15 <newgnu> ah, that makes sense
12:34:18 <warlord> So no, you cannot set up OFX-DC for investments.
12:34:34 <warlord> You CAN, however, use LibOFX's direct import .. So you can download OFX manually and import it manually.
12:35:12 <newgnu> hmmm... so just find the OFX file on the website?
12:35:38 <newgnu> or do I need to run some scripts to get it somehow?
12:36:22 <warlord> Either way
12:36:42 <warlord> Some sites provide a download link. Sometimes you need to use a download_ofx script.
12:36:55 <newgnu> ok, any scripts you would suggest? I haven't found a download link unfortunately
12:37:49 <warlord> sorry, I dont use those features myself so I don't have pointers.
12:37:52 <warlord> You can check the wiki?
12:38:11 <newgnu> yup, I'll do that, thanks a ton
12:38:27 <newgnu> Appreciate you taking the time to help me
12:39:08 <warlord> good luck!
12:50:09 <jgmdev> thanks warlord
12:50:35 <warlord> you're welcome. sorry it's not the answer you wanted.

13:43:02 <warlord> sp4rc: most likely a Liability (for collected taxes you need to pay later) or an Expense.

14:27:33 <dale4948> Thank you for the info, but this is the first time I'm using the program. I haven't even set anything up yet so there should be no data file. It won't open so that I can set up my account.
14:30:52 <warlord> If it's giving you that error then gnucash *has* been run on your system at least once.
14:31:23 <warlord> If you want to completely clear it out then you can delete the .gnucash, .gconf, .gconfd, and .gnome* directories in your homedir.
14:31:43 <warlord> Note that this will completely wipe out any and all gnucash/gtk/gnome settings, so be careful.
14:32:15 <warlord> ... but that will reset your system to pristine. Uninstalling gnucash does not remove those settings.

17:45:33 <django-user> i'm having a problem with gnucash connecting to a remote mysql database. When i try to save to the database with the table already created, i get the error: "The server at URL mysql://root@server.com/gnucash experienced an error or encountered bad or corrupt data." Here is the trace file:
17:45:34 <django-user> * 16:43:09 CRIT <gnc.backend.dbi> [gnc_dbi_mysql_session_begin()] Unable to connect to database 'gnucash'

17:45:34 <django-user> * 16:43:59 CRIT <gnc.engine.sx> gnc_sx_get_sxes_referencing_account: assertion `sxactions != NULL' failed
17:45:35 <django-user> I'm running Windows 8 and have disabled the firewall just to make sure it wasn't blocking any outgoing connections. Any ideas?
18:02:53 <django-user> i believe the issue is with mysql not having proper remote priveleges
