13:23:29 <dizzylizzy> Let's say I put in a budget value (50.00) for Expenses:Dining for December 2012
13:23:59 <dizzylizzy> is there any way I can compare/view my current usage of that budgeted amount?
13:24:39 <dizzylizzy> Without running some fancy budget report, that is
13:24:48 <dizzylizzy> (which only seems to be useful after the fact)

14:06:23 <Takyoji> So, how practical or stupid would the idea be of me writing a basic finance webapp that interoperates directly with the GnuCash SQLite format? All I intend it to be is for data entry of expenses and income, on my smartphone, in JS with use of the WebSQL standard.

14:07:20 <kimec> hi guys.
14:07:41 <kimec> I've installed GnuCash on RHEL 6.3 from EPEL. The version is 2.4.11.
14:08:45 <kimec> I wanted to use PgSQL as DB backend for my data but when I try to "Save As" the newly created Account hierarchy I have only XML backend available. No MySQL nor PgSQL option in the drop down menu.
14:09:26 <kimec> Is there a way to find out how the GnuCash binary was build - if it was built with PgSQL support? Also, I have pgsql client libraries intalled on my system.
14:11:15 <kimec> In addition I do not have even sqlite option available.
14:11:25 <kimec> Thanks in advance
14:18:33 <Takyoji> I have 2.4.10, and all I have as a format option is XML.
14:18:38 <Takyoji> The latest is 2.4.11
14:19:04 <Takyoji> So I'm wondering if the Ubuntu release doesn't have SQLite/PgSQL support compiled in
14:19:23 <kimec> Okay I found a solution
14:19:33 <kimec> I was missing libdbi-dbd-pgsql
14:19:37 <kimec> driver
14:19:42 <kimec> everything works now
14:19:58 <kimec> I guess there should be at least a note about this in the user manual
14:20:04 <Takyoji> http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/FAQ#Q:_Is_the_Postgres_DB_.2F_SQL_backend_supported.3F
14:20:09 <Takyoji> ahh, nice
14:20:26 <kimec> I found the info here http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/RedHat

15:13:07 <dizzylizzy> If I put in a budget value for a specific month, it seems like that value just sits in the Budget pane and does not in any way interact or relate to my actual spendings for that month. How can I compare the two?

16:09:13 <dizzylizzy> So what is the Budget window supposed to do other than relate to finished all-done budget reports
16:09:34 <dizzylizzy> can I even compare it to spent-so-far-this-month, or something similar
