10:31:35 <gp5st1> is there anyway to mark when a transaction clears the bank and when it was made?
10:35:59 <gp5st1> because it's awkward when i transfer money between accounts but it leaves one account one day and appears in another another day and gnucash isn't really good about handling that situation, one of the sheet's won't match the bank statement, not to mention how any debit purchase is always a few days behind
10:36:47 <gp5st1> for the transfer, i guess i could split the transaction, but how do i deal with debit purcheses?
10:37:34 <gp5st1> actually, no, splitting won't let me have multiple dates:(
10:41:27 <kpreid> it's entirely normal for your register not to be in the exact same order as the bank's statement
10:41:52 <kpreid> (fwiw, I think I heard that gnucash *does* record date-of-clearing. It just doesn't actually do anything with the information.)
10:45:14 <gp5st1> it just feels awkward to have a different register than what the bank gives
10:45:32 *** benoitg has quit IRC
10:45:44 <gp5st1> (if you haven't guessed, i'm from the current 20-some gen that never used a check-book register and always went off my bank statement)

11:25:48 <kpreid> this will always be a little bit different than what the bank knows.
11:25:57 <kpreid> if they are different in the wrong ways, that's a problem to look into

15:04:18 <gjanssens> The htdocs repo contains a directory called "old-website"
15:04:33 <gjanssens> Any idea why this is still kept around after so many years ?
15:04:48 <gjanssens> I'm tempted to remove it.
15:05:07 <gjanssens> It remains in svn history anyway and isn't supposed to be used.
15:05:17 <gjanssens> At least, not that I know.
15:05:21 <gjanssens> Objections ?
15:09:25 *** geroldr has joined #gnucash
15:09:25 *** geroldr1 has joined #gnucash
15:18:53 <warlord> none from me.
15:23:25 <gjanssens> I guess that's all confirmation I need...
15:32:17 <warlord> :)
15:34:02 <gjanssens> warlord: I have another question for you:
15:34:23 <gjanssens> the nightly documentation builds on code.gnucash.org
15:34:32 <gjanssens> do they also generate the Japanese pdf ?
15:35:00 *** benoitg has quit IRC
15:36:54 <warlord> They *should*... but IIRC there has been problems with them
15:38:06 <gjanssens> I'm asking because I couldn't get it to work on my Fedora 16 box
15:38:28 <gjanssens> First problem I hit was that it requires fop-ttfreader, which is not packaged on Fedora
15:38:38 <gjanssens> So I wondered how you got around that
15:42:01 <warlord> fop is packaged...
15:42:24 <gjanssens> correct, but it doesn't contain fop-ttfreader here
15:42:36 <gjanssens> Do you have fop-ttfreader on code ?
15:42:42 <warlord> *looking*
15:42:46 <gjanssens> Can you check which rpm shipped it ?
15:42:58 <warlord> nope.
15:43:18 <warlord> I have fop-1.0-16.fc16.noarch
15:43:18 <warlord> installed
15:43:49 <warlord> but fop-ttfreader isn't in the path
15:44:25 * gjanssens wonders how the Japanese pdf gets created then...
15:45:08 <warlord> dunno
15:45:15 <gjanssens> Can you run a "make pdf" in the build dir for guide/ja_JP and see if it actually does something ?
15:59:24 *** linas has joined #gnucash
15:59:50 <warlord> [root@code ja_JP]# make gnucash-guide.pdf
15:59:50 <warlord> make: Nothing to be done for `gnucash-guide.pdf'.
15:59:54 <linas> hi gjanssens are you there?
16:00:06 <gjanssens> linas: yes
16:00:48 <linas> http 301 permanantly moved -- the simplest way to do this seems to be using php ..
16:00:49 <warlord> gjanssens: i also tried "make pdf" -- it doesn't seem to do anything.
16:02:36 <gjanssens> warlord: and if you remove gnucash-guide.pdf in that directory ?
16:03:00 <warlord> already tried that..
16:03:03 <warlord> still no joy
16:03:52 <gjanssens> ... by which I guess we're not actually building the Japanese pdf :(
16:04:17 <warlord> no, guess not.
16:04:39 <gjanssens> And one version was there to satisfy the nightly build shell script's upload step...
16:05:06 <gjanssens> Oh, well, that's just what it is for now.
16:05:37 <gjanssens> You probably better put a pdf back there to avoid upload errors
16:05:55 *** fuzzybunny69y has joined #gnucash
16:06:04 <gjanssens> linas: I guess you are talking about the language dir errors on the website ?
16:08:07 <linas> yes, I'm trying to figure out if I should use mod_rewrite in apache, but it seems simpler to just create index phtmls
16:11:47 <gjanssens> From your mail I gather you believe these hits are from search engine spiders
16:12:41 <gjanssens> Perhaps we can use robots.txt to stop them from hitting these language dirs ?
16:13:24 <gjanssens> I'm not too keen on adding a directory per language just because some automated script continues to look for something that doesn't exist
16:13:52 <gjanssens> Unless we still have improper links somewhere on our own site.
16:16:26 *** Topcat has quit IRC
16:17:44 <gjanssens> I'll continue to look around. Your mail indicates not all of my fixes worked
16:18:21 <gjanssens> Mathing referers from the access log would help a lot here.
16:18:54 <gjanssens> Can you send perhaps send me via private mail the recent access and error logs for the gnucash website
16:19:08 <gjanssens> if they are separate from other websites at least.
16:19:33 <linas> the hits are from all over the place. Many have refers, they are from websites all over the planet.
16:19:51 <linas> many don't have referers, I guess those might be from search engines
16:21:10 <linas> I'll wait a few hours, see what new errors come in after the current fixes, and send you those.
16:21:55 <gjanssens> Ok, thanks
16:22:16 <gjanssens> By the way, I don't think the redirects are complicated in apache either
16:22:35 <gjanssens> Should we need them, I'm happy to give you proper examples if you want
16:23:19 <gjanssens> But now is bedtime in this continent. So to be continued later...
16:25:09 *** gjanssens has quit IRC
16:29:24 <linas> ok, good night. I'm just doing it the way that takes me the lest amount of time :-)

16:41:59 <linas> hmm someone is trying to get lucky:

16:45:35 <warlord> awesome
16:47:58 <linas> but then there are some unfortunate breakges due to moved files:

16:49:27 <warlord> Yeah, not sure how to handle those. I get a bunch of 404 errors on the wiki site, too
16:50:36 <linas> hmm. actually, that's an odd one, since that directory does exist, and it is populated with a bunch of plausible pngs... just not that one.,
16:54:58 <warlord> Hmm
16:55:14 <linas> argh .. that website, dateed july 2010, is offering a download of gnucash-2.2.9.exe install from sourceforge! yikes!
16:56:05 <warlord> 2.2.9, eh? Well, at least it's a real release, even if it's a very very old one.
