03:03:30 <geroldr> Hi, I am using latest version of gnucash on Debian Linux and am starting out with using the trading account for the currencies. I initially use the Price Editor to get fresh rates (I get 1.2010 for EUR/CHF). When I check the use trading accounts, and enter a transaction in my cash-EUR account for 116.75 on the date 2012-04-19 it gives me a default countervalue in CHF (my reporting currency) of 26.85. when the price editor shows 1.2200 on 2012
03:18:10 <geroldr> When I leave the split transaction view and examine the rate, it shows 1 CHF = 4.348231 EUR or 1 EUR=0,229979. I then tried to change the exhange rate using the Fetch Rate button, to no effect. When I click the "To Amount" radio button, it presents to me the value -116.75 which is the amount in Euros. This default value is almost always useless unless the exchange rate is exactly 1.00. I would be best to make a best guess by interpolating the

08:27:29 <warlord> astro: you can run the report and set the dates to only be a month. But no, there is no report 'table' that has a column per month. Patches gladly accepted.
08:28:34 <warlord> geroldr, wirelessben, I'd answer you if you were still here.

11:20:04 <NTICompass> I am working on exporting data from our PHP application to QuickBooks. I decided on OFX files. I don't have QuickBooks, so I downloaded GnuCash. Can GnuCash read OFXv2 files?
11:20:31 <NTICompass> It seemed able to read OFXv1, but OFXv2 is very different (it's actually valid XML!)
11:23:46 <NTICompass> Also, what format do ya'll suggest I use to export for QuickBooks?
11:24:00 <warlord> I don't believe it can read OFXv2. But if you're actually importing large data sets you might be better off with QIF, unless you have multiple currencies. QIF handles splits. OFX doesn't. (at least v1. no clue about v2)
11:24:09 <warlord> I dont think anyone here has ever used QB.
11:25:30 <NTICompass> i've looked into QIF. OFXv2 seems easiest because its valid XML compared to OFXv1's pseudo-XML
11:27:16 <NTICompass> im not sure if QIF supports the fields i want. i am exporting invoices (and orders)
11:28:08 <warlord> No, it doesn't. But OFX wont, either. And Certainly not the OFX importer.
11:28:30 <warlord> In gnucash invoices must be imported separately.
11:28:46 <warlord> but why import historical invoices?
11:29:25 <warlord> Best practice is to switch apps at a period boundary (e.g. first of the year).
11:30:45 <NTICompass> i dont know know terriably much about accounting (I am a programmer), and i was told to add "quickbooks integration" into our php platform.
11:31:03 <NTICompass> so, i am just trying to research what exactly i am trying to do
11:31:10 <NTICompass> because im not even sure
11:31:23 <NTICompass> it seems the OFX (at least v2) spec supports multiple invoices
11:31:47 <NTICompass> i dont have (and dont wanna pay for) quickbooks, so i figured gnucash could help me make sure my OFX files were right
11:32:17 <warlord> Unfortunately you are in the wrong place to get any info about QB. Sorry.
11:32:46 <warlord> And I'm pretty sure Gnc doesn't support OFXv2.
11:32:50 <warlord> Not 100% sure, but pretty sure.
11:33:07 <NTICompass> darn.
11:33:15 <NTICompass> it suppoerts OFXv1, i think, right?
11:33:22 <NTICompass> supports*
11:34:06 <NTICompass> just booted it up, and yep, it likes my OFXv1 file, but not the v2 one
11:34:17 <NTICompass> thanks warlord.

20:17:27 <RonPaul2012> Hello. I just started using gnucash and have a question about tracking expenses. Say I spend $100 at walmart. I'm going to enter the $100 withdraw in the checking account but I also want to track what I bought at walmart. for example I might want to track that of the $100 i spent, i bought $10 in pet food, $30 in groceries, $70 in clothes, etc. How do I go about doing this. is this where I
20:17:27 <RonPaul2012> would use the split transaction feature? thanks
