08:43:57 <oliversutton> hi there - I've got an issue when I try to create a transaction report (in OSX) that gnucash keeps crashing. It seems to only happen if certain accounts are selected to include in the reports. Anyone have any ideas what may be causing this?
08:45:02 <oliversutton> ...and is "try it in ubuntu" a good option for me? =]
08:48:57 <oliversutton> I'm wondering if it might be a unicode issue, but that's just a hunch
08:59:57 <oliversutton> I've answered my own question. I just looked through the accounts and found a few chars not displaying properly (displaying as a black diamond with a question mark in it) - I replaced them with underscores and compiled the report again and all worked fine...

22:37:06 <Vladimir> I get an error when I try to open my gnucash file: "There was an error parsing the file file ..." and I am not able to even open ANY of my 100 backups. Please help
22:38:58 <Vladimir> I am running version 2.4.10

22:57:16 <pnema> Vladimir: hmmm what changed?
23:00:04 <Vladimir> This is only the second day I am running the program. Yesterday I saved the file and this morning am returning to it to add transactions and could not even open it. I did not do anything to the files. none of my backups could be opened
23:02:46 <pnema> What is your OS?
23:02:52 <Vladimir> Windows7
23:02:54 <pnema> Did you update that?
23:03:21 <Vladimir> not that I am aware of. I do not have automatic updates
23:04:00 <pnema> Not sure then. You may want to reinstall GCash. But back up your data files first (doubt that will solve the problem though - just an option to try)
23:04:51 <Vladimir> as far as data files - is it just *.gnucah files or is there a MySQL database somewhere?
23:07:13 <pnema> Well 2.4.10 can use a DB as a back end.
23:07:46 <pnema> Did you try double clicking on your *.gnucash?
23:09:20 <Vladimir> I think I am clicking on the BACKUP file instead of the original file (which might have been deleted) how can I restore things from a backup?
23:10:05 <pnema> I use 2.4.7 so I'm not sure how 2.4.10 is configured
23:11:09 <pnema> If deleted is it in your trash bin?
23:11:49 <Vladimir> I don't see it
23:12:10 <Vladimir> trace file shows this:
23:12:10 <pnema> maybe it was moved, search for gnucash.

23:14:48 <pnema> Vladimir, unfortunately I'm not a developer so not sure. Try this group later, hopefully someone can help. Good Luck...
