12:03:48 <lb> hello
12:05:39 <lb> I am importing a bank statement. the csv has one column for recepient/sender of a payment, its subject and category (ATM withdrawal/scheduled regular payment/wire). can I import all those into an account somehow? It seems I can only choose one column for "description"
12:11:42 <lb> also, a bank statement in MT940 format is not imported and gnucash stays completely silent about why
12:13:40 <warlord> lb: for the MT940 you will have to talk to the AqBanking people, most likely. You can try asking on gnucash-user and hoping that martin answers.
12:14:29 <lb> the mailing list?
12:15:25 <warlord> lb: for the csv.. I don't know which CSV importer you are using, or how it would apply category -> GnuCash Account. You might try using a csv->qif converter so you can apply the category using the qif LCategory lines.
12:15:28 <warlord> yes
12:16:47 <lb> I tried one, would probably have to customize it
12:17:58 <lb> ok, it doesn't import older mt940 files anymore, either
12:19:22 *** john has joined #gnucash
12:19:23 *** gncbot sets mode: +o john
12:19:59 <warlord> sorry, the mt940 importer is 100% aqbanking -- you would have to ask them about older versions.
12:20:13 <lb> yup, I guess

15:58:24 <pica> hello
15:59:37 <warlord> ya
15:59:44 <pica> i'm coding a custom report , so hard work
16:00:45 <warlord> Good luck! (it's not as hard if you can base it off something that already exists)
16:01:11 <pica> thanks warlord
16:02:24 <pica> i looked in account-summary , as i'd like to display accounts
16:05:08 <pica> it calls all-accounts function ,
16:05:44 <warlord> what exactly are you trying to report on?
16:06:09 <pica> i just need a little help
16:07:13 <pica> how to display a account list
16:21:17 <warlord> It depends how you want to display it, but can't you use the same display code from the existing report?
16:33:45 <pica> the code is so strange
16:34:06 <pica> but it's ok now

17:04:45 <pica> yes now defining something to get a account given its code
17:08:28 <warlord> okay

17:19:59 *** Mr_Pig has joined #gnucash
17:20:55 <Mr_Pig> I'm importing a bunch of Credit Card Expense. I have the same vendors multiple times. Is there a way of automating this?
17:22:39 <warlord> Mr_Pig: using which import format?
17:22:49 <Mr_Pig> QFX
17:23:16 <Mr_Pig> I've got 7 vendors, just a lot of transactions.
17:24:01 <warlord> The best way would be to import a small section of transactions first. Turn on Bayesian Matching in the Preferences before you do, and GnuCash will learn the appropriate account mappings. Then subsequent imports will run from the learned data.,
17:25:03 <Mr_Pig> easy enough. Is the Bayesian Matching pretty accurate?
17:25:19 <warlord> It all depends on your inputs.
17:25:26 <warlord> The key is that it learns from past imports.
17:26:16 <warlord> So if you have something that reads "Publix 12345 ABCDE" and map it to Expenses:Groceries, then next time if you see "Publix 23456 DEFGH" it will suggest Ex:Groceries again.
17:26:51 <warlord> However, if you see "Exxon 12345 ABCDE" then it might still suggest Ex:Groceries, until you train it to differentiate.
17:27:01 <warlord> At least that is how it is supposed to work ;)
17:27:06 <Mr_Pig> Thanks warlord. Finally Mr. Bayes is getting his due. ;-)
17:27:18 <warlord> lol
