04:32:34 *** matt has joined #gnucash
04:33:02 <matt> I've just upgraded to gnucash 2.4.4 and have a problem with currencies in split transactions.
04:33:10 <matt> Now when I take an existing transaction, between two accounts in EUR, split it, and change the amount in one of the splits, the imbalance appears in USD instead of EUR.
04:33:24 <matt> If I add another split and set it correctly, so as to change the imbalance to 0, a currency conversion window opens, asking to enter a rate between EUR and USD. This shouldn't happen, as all of the accounts are in EUR.
04:33:34 <matt> I looked in Preferences, and saw that my default currency was set to USD. Changed to EUR, but it hasn't helped.
04:33:39 <matt> Can anyone help me?
04:35:37 <matt> Newly entered transactions don't seem to have this problem. Just transactions that were previously entered under the previous version of the SW: 2.2.X.

11:33:39 <warlord> Grump -- something with Linux 2.6.34 is causing periodic load spikes on I/O... It's as if the I/O handler sometimes get's stuck.

11:50:10 <cpf_> Ok, there seriously needs to be a decent manual or something about creating custom reports... :(
11:50:39 <cpf_> I've been trying to figure out for hours how to get a phone number out of the "owner" variable in the taxinvoice.(eguile.)scm report
11:50:45 <warlord> cpf_: Indeed! Are you offering to write it? :)
11:50:55 <jsled> cpf_: seen http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Custom_Reports and http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Custom_Reports_Using_Eguile ?
11:50:59 <cpf_> When I get heads or tails from it.
11:51:44 <cpf_> jsled, Those aren't really helpful but for the most basic tasks.
11:51:57 <cpf_> For example: Where do I find documentation on how to extract stuff from a variable?
11:52:04 <jsled> cpf_: just wanted to make sure you are aware of them.
11:52:05 <cpf_> What functions are available?
11:52:12 <cpf_> jsled, I was :) thanks
11:52:57 <cpf_> Anyhow; I found gnc:owner-get-owner-id for example, but this function wasn't quite documented, and it seems that one and the many ways to get the owner's address are the only things I can do with it?
11:53:18 <cpf_> Isn't there an obvious way of doing things? Like: owner.phone ?
11:53:22 <warlord> cpf_: pretty much any API is available.
11:53:35 <warlord> Unfortunately there is no automatic generation of the scheme wrappers.
11:54:08 <cpf_> What do you mean by any API is available?
11:54:18 <warlord> Which word don't you understand?
11:54:24 <cpf_> So where do I find the API documentation?
11:54:40 <cpf_> warlord, Any API -> Also the twitter API? o.O
11:54:50 <warlord> Any GnuCash API. Duh
11:55:00 <warlord> The C API is documented at code.gnucash.org/docs/HEAD/
11:55:10 <warlord> Most of it is available in scheme.
11:55:10 <cpf_> Ok, guess I'll start there.
11:55:14 <cpf_> Thanks :)
11:55:46 <warlord> You're welcome.

14:42:09 <blathijs> warlord: Yup, just got it in
14:43:09 <warlord> Phew
14:43:16 <warlord> The system is behaving.... poorly.
14:44:01 <warlord> I dont know what it is, but these versions of the kernel have very VERY bad reactions to the existing raid infrastructure..
14:44:33 <warlord> I can bring the system to its knees by a simple "dd if=/dev/zero of=<file> bs=1M count=10000"
14:53:23 <blathijs> warlord: There were some scheduler changes in recent kernels, I think
14:53:40 <blathijs> though there were supposed to be all good (the "magic patches" they were called or something)
14:54:32 <warlord> Maybe. But all the 2.6.34 kernels I've tried have been Bad

14:55:59 <warlord> Whereas backing down to 2.6.27 will give me a stable system again.
14:58:21 <warlord> I'm pretty sure I figured out why my 2.6.27 bootup failed; I've fixed that so I plan to reboot back into that kernel tonight.
14:58:42 <warlord> (If it succeeds then I'll detail the issue)
15:00:17 <blathijs> :-)

21:47:54 <warlord> It's a liability to you.
21:48:12 *** kpreid has quit IRC
21:49:33 <max> ohh okay thats kind of what I figured....
21:52:12 <max> do enter that as a decrease?
21:52:20 <max> to show up as negative?
21:53:56 <warlord> no. it would be an increase of liability and increase in asset (they paid you the deposit)
21:56:27 <warlord> [MAINT] server going down shortly.
