10:04:07 <seagolfer> looks at first sight like gnucash and turbocash are the front runners... any comments on turbocash ?
10:04:54 <seagolfer> (I'm going to have my golf club use open source accounting software... currently on hand written ledgers !!
10:06:38 <warlord> never heard of or seen turbocash
10:12:12 <seagolfer> http://www.turbocashuk.com/
10:12:24 <fell> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TurboCASH
10:13:01 <seagolfer> I'm looking around for something to use to run a Golf Club accounts... just got a quote of £800 for Sage
10:13:18 <seagolfer> We're very short of money just at the moment
10:14:11 <fell> seagolfer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_accounting_software
10:14:21 <seagolfer> (and not likely to improve until next spring... We've had snow on the ground for a week now
10:14:33 <seagolfer> thanks fell

10:22:55 <fell> You should make a list of criterias and weight them for your preselection:
10:24:00 <fell> double entry accounting, web based (insecure?), ...
10:24:12 <seagolfer> fell: just been doing that to show a member who is an accountant. I think Gnucash is already looking best due to stand alone
10:24:48 <seagolfer> You're right he wouldn't be happy with web based
10:25:29 <fell> When I started I tested a few, because of the work flow.
10:25:32 <seagolfer> TurboCash seems just straightforward double entry book keeping
10:25:54 <seagolfer> with not many features
10:26:43 <seagolfer> he wants help with monthly account reconciliation and financial planning
10:27:08 <kimmo> what golf club is that?
10:27:09 <seagolfer> difficult from hand ledgers !
10:27:18 <seagolfer> It's a club in Manchester, UK
10:27:40 <seagolfer> Don't want to be more specific just now
10:27:47 <kimmo> oh ok
10:28:01 <seagolfer> our web site is an embarassment... working on it.. just took over as secretary
10:28:06 <fell> The finall criteria was the support: Is there a reaction on bug reports?
10:28:17 <kimmo> well if you do settle on gnucash let me know, I'll show up with my bag to try it out
10:28:30 <seagolfer> you in UK kimmo ?
10:28:58 <kimmo> no, but I'm willing to travel for golf ;)
10:29:35 <seagolfer> good man ! I'm hoping to play some top courses for free this Spring (perk of club sec's)
10:29:59 *** linas has quit IRC
10:30:58 <kimmo> nice
10:30:58 *** linas has joined #gnucash
10:30:58 <seagolfer> email me at seagolfer@gmail.com
10:30:58 <seagolfer> oops... just remembered this is logged... oh well
10:31:05 <kimmo> I haven't really been active in taking part at the club activities, my home club is 40 km away :(
10:31:37 <kimmo> I caved when the course 10 km away had a season pass sale for 595 eur
10:31:49 <seagolfer> Depends on the roads... could be half an hour or an hour and a half !
10:32:37 *** e-ndy has quit IRC
10:33:00 <seagolfer> our annual membership fee is approx 1000 Euro
10:33:15 <seagolfer> not cheap unfortunately
10:33:37 <seagolfer> what country are you in
10:33:53 <kimmo> in here most clubs have a membership fee of about 60 euros, but that doesn't include any fairway time, just the EGA hcp card
10:33:57 <kimmo> finland
10:34:07 <seagolfer> ahh
10:35:30 <seagolfer> right... that's a system we don't see over here. Some clubs have a half and half system where you pay about half the normal rate for membership but still pay (a reduced amount) for green fees
10:35:31 <kimmo> stupid winter
10:35:59 <seagolfer> I played in -9C a few days ago !!
10:36:09 <seagolfer> but then it snowed so impossible
10:36:15 <seagolfer> the ball was bouncing everywhere
10:37:24 <seagolfer> American was telling me a few years ago they don't play at his course unless it's 60F plus
10:37:51 <kimmo> there's only a few clubs in finland that operate on the basis of unlimited play time included in the membership fee. Most often the club just provides services to a limited company which actually owns the course and facilities, and each piece of stock gives you free play, in exchange for a yearly maintenance fee

10:38:26 <seagolfer> kimmo... do you think GnuCash could look after a Golf Clubs accounting needs ??
10:38:44 <kimmo> sure
10:38:52 <seagolfer> We've just become a limited company
10:38:59 <seagolfer> recently
10:39:04 <kimmo> I run gnucash for all my enterprises, plus personal finance
10:40:22 <seagolfer> good... I'll send the accountant guy the help manual pdf and the concepts guide pdf
10:40:30 <kimmo> I'd say it's well suited for all basic accounting needs
10:41:39 <seagolfer> Great... thanks for your help. I have to go but will probably be back with more questions :-)
