07:39:58 <warlord> indigo: I do not believe we have a report that can currently do that. With some scheme hacking you could modify one, like the txn report, to do what you want.

10:30:51 <fell> jsled: what do you think about this wiki user: http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Horse ?
10:32:11 <jsled> dirty spammer
10:32:55 *** warlord-afk is now known as warlord
10:33:04 <fell> So I will revert all and ban him.
10:33:14 <warlord> Wow, I must be tired -- took me a couple reads to see it.
10:33:27 <warlord> fell, do you have SysOp privs? If not, jsled can give them to you ;)
10:34:56 <jsled> warlord: no, it's way more insidious than our usual spam.
10:35:18 <fell> warlord: No bureaucrat, but the next level, IIRC.
10:37:29 <fell> His first commits where partial related to the content, but the last 2 totally unrelated.

12:45:37 <warlord> amendt: there is no easy way in the UI to reset it. The easiest way is to create a fake ofx file with a different account, then when you import it select the gnucash account you want to reset. Then you can import the original and it will let you choose.

14:39:58 <warlord> move your data file
14:44:13 *** markjenkinsparit has joined #gnucash
14:58:07 <tim> what is the data file called?
14:58:42 <warlord> It's called whatever you named it. It's like asking "what's my word document called?"
14:59:15 <tim> ok. I just don't remember naming it. I'll take a look thanks
14:59:33 <warlord> You can look under the File menu for recently opened files
14:59:41 <warlord> .. and the name should also be in the titlebar
15:07:47 <tim> There are about 10 files with the same name .xac and about that many .log file plus one Gzip archive. Which one do I move?
15:10:28 <warlord> The one without any timestamp or extension
15:12:26 <tim> The only one I see like that seems to be the zip file
15:12:48 <warlord> yes, by default your data file is gzipped.
15:13:27 <jsled> …but it shouldn't have an extension by default
15:13:57 <jsled> tim: how are you browsing the files? is it Nautilus telling you the file is a "gzip archive"?
15:14:08 *** fbond has joined #gnucash
15:14:14 * jsled wonders if it uses magic-number detection or something for that.
15:17:43 <tim> yes it shows it as a gzip archive
15:21:57 <warlord> Anyways, yes, that's the file.
15:23:56 <tim> ok. I'm opening Gnucash on the desktop for the first time. Should I choose create new accounts or import qif files. I'm guessing create new accounts
15:24:04 *** fDavid has quit IRC
15:25:09 <jsled> tim: it doesn't matter, really. you'll just throw away that dataset as soon as you can
15:25:49 <warlord> tim: Neither. Get to the main screen and then File -> Open
15:26:46 <tim> perfect. I hit cancel when it asked me to create then chose open from the file menu. It's all there. Thanks
15:27:49 <tim> Next is to figure out how to share that file between systems. I know it can only be open on one system at a time.
15:28:08 <warlord> Set up a file server?
15:29:00 <tim> I don't know how to do that.
15:29:34 <tim> Don't want overstay my welcome. I can read about it...
15:31:37 <warlord> Is it all Linux?
15:31:53 <tim> yes ubuntu
15:32:47 <warlord> Look up "NFS"
15:33:29 <tim> ok. have to go for now. thanks
15:33:37 <warlord> you're welcome. Later, tim

20:11:32 <warlord> mib_n1iy7a: define "better"
20:12:43 <mib_n1iy7a> If I am able to track my personal finances in a better way, in a more specific way from a budget standpoint.
20:15:30 <mib_n1iy7a> Better for me means more powerful in the sense of how well I can control my personal finances.
20:19:04 <warlord> well, i think the only person who can answer that is you.
20:19:20 <warlord> some of the benefits of gnucash are that it's free and open source.
