07:26:44 <SatPhil> Very odd: I just upgraded Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10 x86 and all the values in my GnuCash 2.3.15 SQLite have turned to zero. For a cheque account, all deposits are blank, all withdrawals are blank and all balances are zero. I get the same problem in a file I saved a couple of months ago are now displaying as zero (I used a copy of this file a month ago OK).
07:28:36 <SatPhil> I rebuilt gnucash using the 10.04 instructions from http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Building#Ubuntu_10.04_LTS_.28Lucid_Lynx.29 and the same problem occurs.
07:32:01 <SatPhil> Even the rate in my tax table for GST is blank.
07:34:27 <SatPhil> The other column values are OK e.g. date, description, transfer, reconciled.
07:37:17 <SatPhil> So I should say all the numeric values have turned to zero.

08:39:15 <warlord> SatPhil: What was your system locale before? and what is it now? Maybe your default currency changed?
08:39:30 <warlord> Note also that 2.3.x is a test release, so it could also be a bug in the SQL code.

11:31:18 <aneonoe> I'd like to know if it is possible to use gnucash and share results. In my case, I would like to share my datas with my wife and, finally, make statistics on our family accounting.
11:31:38 <aneonoe> Have you tried this before ? Thx for you feedback.
11:31:57 <jsled> "share" how?
11:32:38 <aneonoe> Export file, would be fine.
11:32:39 <jsled> multiple parties can open the datafile, serially.
11:32:48 <jsled> the html reports can be exported.
11:33:11 <aneonoe> Not the html report, I mean the accounts themselves.
11:34:58 <jsled> there's no separate "export" data type.
11:35:21 <jsled> but, I'm not sure why you'd want that; you can share the datafile directly.
11:36:17 <aneonoe> Yes, I can share the datafile: I will indeed.
11:36:19 <aneonoe> But.
11:36:45 <aneonoe> When I check my bank accounts, I save ofx file and import it.
11:37:18 <aneonoe> After that I check every expense that I put inside an account.
11:37:27 <aneonoe> I do not know the right word.
11:37:48 <aneonoe> Suppose Expense:Home:Electricity , right ?
11:38:32 <aneonoe> If, these accounts does not match, because both use different accounting names.
11:38:46 <aneonoe> I wonder how gnucash manages it.
11:38:58 <aneonoe> May be, I have to test and I will see.
11:40:03 <aneonoe> After checking her accounts and after I check my accounts: we have to merge our results.
11:40:18 <aneonoe> So I do not know if gnucash controls it.
11:40:29 <jsled> you can't do that, no,.
11:40:33 <aneonoe> ok
11:40:35 <jsled> serialized access only
11:40:40 <aneonoe> ok
11:42:00 <aneonoe> serialized you mean: on the same file we work together but not on same time ?
11:43:45 <aneonoe> s/on same time/ at the same time/ ...
11:43:45 <jsled> only one instance of the program can access the datafile at any one time.
11:43:53 <aneonoe> ok
11:43:58 <jsled> if you make changes in two copies of the datafile, there's no way to merge those changes together.
11:44:15 <jsled> and two instances of gnucash can't access the same data (file, base) at the same time.
11:44:18 <aneonoe> ok that was my issue. Thx for your answer.
11:44:55 <aneonoe> s/was/were/ damned...

17:42:23 <SatPhil> Thanks for the pointer mikee__ and warlord. It does look exactly like bug 611936 and gnucash.trace has the same error messages as mentioned in this bug. So do I go into bugzilla and ask for libdbi to be built for Ubuntu 10.10 x86 without the -fno-fast-mat optimisation?
17:43:28 *** ErKa has joined #gnucash
17:43:38 <warlord> SatPhil: probably..
17:50:51 <warlord> arguably we should be able to handle SQLite being built that way.
17:56:01 <SatPhil> thanks again, much appreciated.
17:56:14 <warlord> You should comment on that bug report, too, by the way.

20:47:23 <Plouj> hi
20:47:25 <Plouj> I'm surprised
20:47:28 <Plouj> http://www.mail-archive.com/gnucash-devel@lists.gnumatic.com/msg01981.html - it's 2010 and still no lineplots
21:00:44 <warlord> Plouj: It's 2010 and you still haven't donated a patch to implement it! Besides, we haven't use Guppi since we moved to Gnome2 in 2003.
21:02:00 <Plouj> well
21:02:06 <Plouj> I've donated money!
21:02:49 <Plouj> I don't care if Guppi or Cairo or whatever is used. Not having line graphs is rather embarrassing.
21:04:36 <Plouj> also, the problem is that it's probably faster to write a python script with ledger to read gnucash transactions and draw graph nice graphs using some hip flavour of the day graphing library then to modify gnucash
21:12:45 <warlord> Embarrassing to whom?
21:12:57 <warlord> (ftr, we use GOffice for our graphics)
21:13:21 <warlord> As for it being faster to write in python... *shrugs* Maybe. Maybe not.
21:13:50 <warlord> There are lots of great ideas out there. Unless there's a developer to implement it, well, it just stays a great idea.
21:28:27 *** fbond has quit IRC
21:31:27 <Plouj> warlord: how do you use GOffice for graphics?
21:31:38 <Plouj> oh, you mean the latest gnucash?
21:40:20 <Plouj> so does the scheme scripting for gnucash have the ability to draw line graphs now?
21:41:13 *** Jimraehl has quit IRC
21:44:55 <warlord> Plouj: libgoffice is the graphics engine.
21:45:04 <warlord> Well, by "latest" I mean anything >= 2.0
21:45:25 <warlord> I dont know if the scheme scripting for line graphs was added.
