00:40:54 <chewed-on> Hello is this the official GnuCash irc channel ?
00:42:46 <chewed-on> I'm trying out GnuCash on my Mac OS X Snow Leopard and I entered some test data. Savings Account $10,000, Checking Account $1,000, Bank Account Keeping Fee $8.00. It says my ImBalance-AUD = $-10,908.00 … why do I get negative money lol ?
00:43:54 <chewed-on> I entered $10,000 into Deposit column and I checked the ImBalance-AUD account it became Withdrawal.

07:56:18 <Nawjak> Hi folks. Any idea what's wrong when the gnucash process runs but I get no window? Running Windows 7 64bit, using the link in the start menu.

09:23:07 <Nawjak> Installed the unstable 2.3.15 version, that works. (so unstable works better than stable [2.2.9], interesting)

18:11:40 <refdoc> We have been using gnucash for many years now for our small business. Is there a place where one can post an account structure for new users as a starting example? We would have benefitted from such an example

22:36:55 <Reese1872> is there some way I can mirror a transaction, but not effect actual totals? ... for example, i want to store sales made both by location AND by item type... so income->sales->tShirts .... also income->sales->gardenGrove ...
22:38:31 <Reese1872> that way I can use reports to determine which locations give me the most income... also reports to tell me which items give me the most income... know wutta mean

23:14:55 <warlord> Reese1872: what you're asking for is called "tagging" and gnucash does not support it. (Quicken called it "classes")
23:15:16 <warlord> No, there is no way currently to get gnucash to view a transaction in multiple accounts.
23:16:09 <warlord> You need to choose which is more important, "t-shirt" or "gardengrove".. and then you can put the other piece of information into the Txn Desc. Generally the 'who' (payee/payer) is put into the Desc.
23:16:18 <warlord> .. and the 'what' is the account.
23:25:44 <Reese1872> rats
23:25:49 <Reese1872> thanks for the advice though
23:37:11 <warlord> Note that some of the reports will let you sort by Desc.
23:39:07 <Reese1872> but thats only if i do an identical desc right?
23:39:29 <Reese1872> i have a tendency to talk about each trans individually, like "tips earned during live performance at irvine spectrum" or whatever
23:39:46 <Reese1872> er, with the date though in the desc
23:40:18 <warlord> True, it would depend on you always saying "Radio Shack"
23:40:23 <warlord> anyways, bedtime for me.
