06:26:28 <shact> Hi guys. Does anyone have a suggestion for how I can set up my credit card accounts (liabilities:credit cards) such that I can see how much available credit is left on each and in total? Thanks
06:37:19 *** shact has left #gnucash
06:41:09 *** shact has joined #gnucash
06:41:29 <shact> oops, closed the window.
06:43:10 <kimmo> the functionality you're looking for doesn't exist. I personally use the "Description" field of accounts to note the amount of credit available
06:48:11 *** bentob0x has joined #gnucash
06:51:24 <shact> kimmo; yeah i do that too, but just wanted a dynamic way of seeing what I had left available at a glance. It seems the only way would be to put the credit limit as a transaction between liabilities and equity, a bit like an advanced purchase, but then it would do the reports wrong. Seems like a failry basic feature to be missing :S
06:53:27 *** kpreid has quit IRC
06:53:44 <kimmo> not really, after all it's an accounting software, I don't think credit limits tracking is an essential feature...
06:54:24 <shact> ..i guess the easiest way would be a column for remaining available credit, that subtracts teh balance from the limit, which could entered in the account properties. GnuCash hasn't implemented any new features that I've notcied in the 3 years I've been using it, so I won't hold my breath
06:57:17 <kimmo> lots of new features in the business side
06:57:31 <kimmo> or so I'm told, never used them myself
06:59:21 <shact> I do like the new connect to an SQL DB option though, which would allow users to overcome these limitations by linking the data to Office. Just a shame that as all curent accounting software is so limited and basic, that no-one seems to have the vison to build on it. I had to write my own daily interest calculator for my mortgage cos I couldn't find any accounting software that could to it. Not GnuCash, Quicken or MS Money; so
07:00:07 <shact> Oh I dunno I haven't used that either. Though I can't think why a business would need any more than the standard long-established accounts.
07:02:19 <kimmo> I remember warlord mentioning something about a loan repayment druid, using the PMT() function
07:03:13 <kimmo> then again I never bothered to look them up
07:04:58 <shact> Nah I spoke to the devs on it. GnuCash needs you to work it out yourself and enter the numbers, at least for a scheduled transaction which of course is what it should be. It ca't even handle variations in the interest rate, hence I had to write something that could else I'd get annoyed
07:05:31 <kimmo> heh
07:06:11 <shact> So I do my mortgage in that now and put the numbers into GnuCash, but I am looking forward to being able to link the two via an SQL backend. Might give it a shot later since it's a bank hol

08:14:51 <pocu> warlord: I guessed so.. The thing is I am working on the translation into Bulgarian.
08:15:04 <pocu> In fact the translation is ready
08:15:10 <warlord> Then submit it.
08:15:31 <pocu> But I still need to make some corrections and wanted to estimate how much time I have
08:15:51 <pocu> Plus, there are some friends who already test it.
08:16:31 <warlord> No less than a few weeks.
08:16:46 <warlord> There are still a bunch of bugs that need to be worked out, I think.
08:16:53 <pocu> If there are 2 more weeks available, the translation would be better. Which is the main factor :-)
08:17:03 <pocu> Oh, nice to read that
08:17:41 <pocu> Thank you, warlord!

16:05:39 <shact> Hi guys. I've been trying ot get the new 2.3.x DB functionalilty to work, but without success. First I assumed GnuCash would use ODBC, but it seems that it doesn't, and I have to install MySQL or PostgreSQL, which I've done, but still can't "Save As" to either database. I don't really get what's going on here, but I know I haven't made a user account for either DB server, even though GnuCash asks for them. Anyone help?
16:12:39 *** lol_h has quit IRC
16:21:58 <warlord> shact: what OS/Distro?
16:22:19 <warlord> GnuCash uses DBI; I believe there MIGHT be an ODBC DBD backend
16:32:42 <shact> warlord: XP32
16:33:20 <shact> Warlord, does that mean I don't need 2.3.x to connect to the DB by another app?
16:35:43 *** fugitive68 has quit IRC
16:38:07 <warlord> gnucash isn't a DB app... Even in 2.3.x. It uses a DB as a data store, but gnucash owns that DB and it is "not allowed" for you to modify that database outside gnucash. So...
16:38:29 <warlord> Having said that... it should work fine.
16:38:38 <warlord> (sorry, have to run to home depot)
