01:54:13 *** Amadeus has joined #gnucash
01:55:39 <Amadeus> Just discovered gnucash and am excited to evaluate it at my work. The MySQL support is what really appeals to me - so I hope it's not improper to ask if any of the devs have even a broad expectation on the 2.4.0 release.
01:56:12 <Amadeus> Or, if anyone knows if the current unstable version's database will upgrade easily to 2.4.x database structure.

04:06:55 <blathijs> opalepatrick: You can define tax tables in Business -> Tax tables (or something like that)
04:07:12 <blathijs> opalepatrick: After that, you can select the appropriate tax table when entering invoices and bills
04:09:24 <opalepatrick> thanks a lot blathijs I will have a look at that

07:51:18 <blathijs> Hmm, is there any way to use the € symbol in reports (invoices) instead of the EUR string?

08:36:06 <GncWarlord> blathijs: set your locale to a euro-locale
08:36:23 <GncWarlord> Amadeus: there shouldn't be any more database changes before 2.4.0
08:37:54 <kimmo> what's with the new nick?
08:41:37 <blathijs> GncWarlord: Hmm, but I have en_US.UTF-8 now, seems there is no euro variant of that
08:42:41 <blathijs> Why is the locale relevant anyway? The euro sign is avalable in UTF-8 always, right?
08:43:58 *** bentob0x has joined #gnucash
08:52:04 <blathijs> Setting the locale to nl_NL@euro does indeed work (but now all of my interface is in Dutch, brrr...)
08:53:29 <gary> :)
08:54:31 <jsled> Amadeus: gnucash does odd-minor-version unstable releases, and even-minor-version stable series … 2.3.x will become 2.4.0, and unless there's some major problem, the database format will be trivially upgradable, as it'd be the same.
08:55:44 <jsled> blathijs: it's a side-effect of a design decision, I guess; the only currency *symbol* used is for the currency of the locale; all others will be in the label (CAD, USD, EUR, &c.) rather than the symbol.
08:55:47 <GncWarlord> blathijs: gnucash gets the symbol from the locale, so only the locale currency symbol shows. You could do something like LC_MONETARY=nl_NL.UTF-8
08:57:45 <GncWarlord> jsled: how do I deal with someone who's using my nick and just sitting idle?
08:58:55 <blathijs> jsled: Yeah, I think I saw some code for that. Why not just use symbols for every currency?
08:59:27 <GncWarlord> blathijs: How do I differentiate between $, $, and $ (USD, CAD, and Bahamian Dollar)?
08:59:38 <jsled> hrm. I don't think gimpnet has a nickserv, so there's no good option.
08:59:47 <blathijs> GncWarlord: Hmm, fair point :-)
09:00:15 <GncWarlord> jsled: Yeah. Not sure what to do. I guess going into 'opers' and asking would get me laughed-at.
09:00:26 <blathijs> Heh, setting LC_MONETARY to nl also gives me , as a decimal separator :-)
09:00:33 <blathijs> But I guess I can live with that
09:00:52 <GncWarlord> There might be an LC_* that just affects currency/
09:04:43 <blathijs> man locale doesn't show any
09:05:20 <blathijs> But the dot as decimal separator was confusing me anyway, so I guess it's ok like this
09:05:49 <blathijs> Let's hope I don't confuse my customers by using a , as a separator
09:05:55 <blathijs> on an English invoice
09:11:00 <blathijs> I guess gnucash needs the locale info from libc to know what the currency symbol is anyway?
09:15:33 <GncWarlord> UK uses , as decimal separator
09:17:10 <blathijs> Ah, that's good, since I'm sending invoices to a UK-based company :-)
09:18:47 <blathijs> Now things get even more interesting when I want to send invoices in Dutch, but let's worry about that later :-)
09:21:04 <blathijs> For now, I have a cool invoice using a custom HTML template
09:21:12 <blathijs> It even has a nice footer at the bottom of the page :-)
09:21:21 <gary> i'm in the UK and I never us , as a decimal seperator, i've always used .

11:17:45 <blathijs> Print to file seems to be fixed to Letter paper size. Can I change that to A4 somewhere? Perhaps some Gnome thingy?
11:28:37 <GncWarlord> it would be a gnome thing. not sure how/where.

12:27:06 <goodolE22> I just compiled gnucash using macports but it looks like the internationalization is not working correctly. When I start up gnucash i get weird boxes where the text should be. I have gettext installed and installed the english variants for aspell and hunspell. Is there something simple that I am missing to get english text?
12:49:11 *** gour has joined #gnucash
12:49:24 <GncWarlord> goodolE22: why did you do that instead of using the .dmg?
12:50:30 <goodolE22> @GncWarlord: because i was on here a few days ago and the online banking portion for ofx was not working for me on the binary build provided on the site
12:50:30 <gncbot> goodolE22: Error: "GncWarlord:" is not a valid command.
12:51:03 <GncWarlord> did you email gnucash-user and ask for help? JRalls is pretty good about that.
12:51:05 <goodolE22> GncWarlord: because i was on here a few days ago and the online banking portion for ofx was not working for me on the binary build provided on the site
12:51:12 <goodolE22> yes
12:51:18 <goodolE22> never got anything back
12:51:35 <goodolE22> so I figured I would just try an alternate route
12:52:02 <GncWarlord> well, it HAS been a holiday weekend.. When did you ask?
12:52:16 <GncWarlord> I suspect that macports is WELL behind
12:52:18 <goodolE22> it worked fine when I ran a windows version in virtualbox but that isn't an optimal solution for me so I built it with macports
12:52:41 <GncWarlord> As for the DMG, in what way does the online banking fail?
12:53:49 <goodolE22> this was the email i sent to the list a few days ago
12:53:51 <goodolE22> I just started tinkering with the online banking function of gnucash and am running into the same problem as user jralls at ceridwen.us posted on June 15, 2010 (with the same subject line as this message). This was regarding the crashing of AqBanking when setting up an OFX account and in the user configuration windows switching from Intro to General or OFX. Gnucash will crash and throw an error window saying qt3-wizard quit
12:53:51 <goodolE22> unexpectedly. I am running GnuCash 2.3.7 on Mac OSX 10.6.4. I also downloaded 2.2.9.4 from the site a few minutes ago and had the same error. I am not sure if the original poster resolved the issue.. If he did I would definitely be interested in hearing the fix. I have attached the crash log in a txt attachment. I don't have access to a windows machine to test running it in windows, but as the other user mentioned it wouldn't
12:53:51 <goodolE22> preferred to run it in a vm obviously.
12:53:54 <goodolE22> If anyone has any ideas on how to work through this issue i would greatly appreciate it. Aside from the online banking issue gnucash is great!
12:53:56 <goodolE22> Thanks,
12:53:59 <goodolE22> Evan
12:54:22 <gour> hiya, i'm trying to do 1st steps in GC in order to try to customize invoices...entered some demo data and when i select reports -> business -> easy invoice i get: "No valid invoice selected. Click on the Options button and select the invoice to use." however i do not see 'Options button' ?
12:54:45 <gour> i'm using 2.3.14
12:54:55 <GncWarlord> goodolE22: well, jralls is the mac maintainer. he'd know best.
12:55:11 <GncWarlord> personally, I dont use any online banking features, so I dont know.
12:55:37 <GncWarlord> gour: then you're blind. there's an options button in the toolbar.
12:56:01 <goodolE22> yeah I am not even sure if they would meet my needs, I just wanted to test them out
12:56:03 <GncWarlord> (second fromt he right)
12:57:14 <goodolE22> GncWarlord: Would you happen to know the solution to the text issue I am having? Or would that be more appropriate on the mailing list as well?
12:57:23 <gour> GncWarlord: ahh, it says "Edit report options"...i was looking at menu
12:57:24 <gour> :-(
12:57:49 <GncWarlord> Why? it *said* 'button'
12:58:11 <GncWarlord> goodolE22: not offhand. it sounds like an ISO/UTF-8/Font issue.
12:58:23 * GncWarlord doesn't use a Mac
12:58:38 <gour> GncWarlord: well, now it's hard to explain *why* :-)
12:58:59 * GncWarlord sighs
12:59:40 <gour> now, there is more difficult step..customizing...
12:59:47 <goodolE22> GncWarload: ahh ok that is what I figured, I just didn't see it addressed anywhere in the documentation
13:02:12 <GncWarlord> goodolE22: it would be system specific. nothing to do with gnucash per se. which is why it's not in the gnucash docs.
13:02:17 <GncWarlord> the DMG wouldn't have this issue
13:03:40 <goodolE22> Alright I will just hold off an wait and see if i get a response to my post on the mailing list. Thanks for the information
13:04:08 <GncWarlord> hopefully john will get back to you today.

13:26:32 <gour> still, we believe that gnucash can save us from simpleinvoices.org :-D
13:26:44 <gour> we do not hack scheme/guile
13:27:35 <gour> btw, has anyone tried (h)ledger?
13:43:14 * gour posted to the user-list
13:52:06 <GncWarlord> gour: you need to re-add the call to load slib in the report. it's a known issue.
13:52:30 <GncWarlord> just add (use-modules (ice-9 slib))
