07:32:34 <incrudible> which Svn version would devs most like testing on?
07:53:23 <kimmo> my guess would be the 2.3.x head
07:55:31 <incrudible> kimmo: I see no gnucash/branches/2.3/ . Where is it?

08:34:09 <incrudible> Or I can use git, if it is better.
08:34:21 <incrudible> better for GNUCash
09:04:21 *** warlord-afk is now known as warlord
09:04:25 <warlord> incrudible: 2.3.x is trunk
09:04:35 <warlord> You can test the 2.3.x releases, or trunk. right now they are equivalent.
09:45:31 <incrudible> Testing trunk with Ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid Lynx'. There is the problem finding slib. I looked at the 2 bug reports. & README. Solution is not obvious to me. Ubuntu has no relevant bug filed for the package.
09:46:49 <incrudible> Probably more an Ubuntu or guile issue, I guess.
09:47:38 <incrudible> but i don't understand it well enough to file a bug with Ubuntu.
09:56:52 <incrudible> I think i found clues in the debian/ubuntu patch for the source package.

10:34:30 <incrudible> The key is: GUILE=/usr/bin/guile-1.6 ./configure
10:35:04 <warlord> incrudible: remove guile 1.8
10:35:11 <warlord> ... or that
10:35:26 <warlord> But yeah, the problem is that you have multiple versions of guile.. But slib is only for 1.6
10:35:36 <warlord> (we really are trying to remove the slib dependency)
11:27:19 <incrudible> or maybe guile-1.8 is needed? I now get error: checking if guile needs our copy of (guile www)... ./configure: line 15859: syntax error near unexpected token `gnc_have_guile_www,'
11:27:19 <incrudible> ./configure: line 15859: `GUILE_MODULE_AVAILABLE(gnc_have_guile_www,(www main))'
11:30:51 <warlord> No, you need guile 1.6 and also the dev.
11:30:56 <warlord> Try: apt-get build-dep gnucash

11:44:50 <Antisoche> Hello, question from a non-accountant: I have a simple business setup with "Income>Consulting", "Assets>Checking", and A/R. I put $600 into "Consulting" and generated an Invoice. The invoice has been paid and the Account Summary report shows $600 Income and $600 Assets which seems right. But the Transaction Report shows $1200 "Grand Total". What am I doing wrong?
11:46:05 <Antisoche> Is "Grand Total" just mileading?
11:46:13 <Antisoche> misleading
11:47:06 <Antisoche> The main screen bottom-line summary says "Assets: $600, Profits: $600" so that seems right.
11:50:17 <warlord> Antisoche: my guess: you used the wrong account somewhere.
11:50:40 <Antisoche> Account?
11:51:07 <warlord> How did you "put $600 into Consulting"?
11:51:20 <Antisoche> I've just described every transaction in the file, with the exeption that the invoice was paid in a different month...
11:51:21 <warlord> Antisoche: Have you read the documentation?
11:51:43 <Antisoche> I've read some of the docs and thought I was doing it right...
11:51:56 * Antisoche not an accountant
11:52:14 <warlord> You have not fully described every transaction; you did not give me both sides of each transaction.. So let's start at the beginning. First thing you did was...??
11:52:25 <warlord> Neither am I
11:52:26 <Antisoche> (I'm trying to answer your question, it's been a month since I entered it initially...)
11:53:17 <Antisoche> My transaction in Income>Consulting has a Transfer account of Assets:Accounts Receivable.
11:53:20 <warlord> Wait, the transaction report... I'm not sure what the Txn Report grand total means. What about an Income Statement?
11:53:38 <warlord> .. and Balance Sheet
11:54:01 <Antisoche> Income is $600, looks right
11:54:57 <Antisoche> balance sheet says $600 assets, 0 liability, $600 total equity. Total liabilites & Equity is $600.
11:55:16 <Antisoche> Seems right, too
11:56:04 <Antisoche> Is the Txn Report grand total just bogus?
11:56:38 <warlord> Well, define "bogus". You ARE moving 1200.
11:56:56 <Antisoche> "misleading" was my initial adjective. :)
11:57:04 <Antisoche> Cash Flow looks right
11:58:09 <warlord> Okay.
11:58:29 <Antisoche> General Journal reports "Net Change: $1200"
12:01:18 <warlord> right
12:01:48 <Antisoche> warlord: Do you do GnuCash development?
12:02:13 <warlord> used to
12:02:26 <Antisoche> I think I found a buglet.
12:03:21 <Antisoche> Edit->Tax Information ... Income Account, "F1099-MISC Other income" contains the text of the "F1099-MISC Prizes and awards" as well.
12:06:55 <Antisoche> (gnucash 2.2.9 built from r17949M on 2010-02-23, as shipped in Kubuntu)
12:08:11 <warlord> That may have been fixed already.. We're close to 2.4.0
12:09:12 * Antisoche is enjoying reading the credits :)
12:16:42 <Antisoche> Yeah, I don't understand what $1200 is doing in there. The equity statement shows $600 income, $1200 investments, $1200 withdrawals, with a $600 increase in capital.
12:18:16 <Antisoche> It seems to me like the program is taking a too-simplistic view of income/expense wrt double-entry accounting, but if that's what GAAP is, who am I to complain? :-(
12:18:55 <Antisoche> Er, "invest/withdrawal" ... income/expense seems to work fine.
12:21:39 <warlord> I dunno. I'd have to see the full set of accounts. I haven't looked at that part of the code.
