04:25:47 <rioch> hi, my MT940 file will not import. I remember fixing this problem before but can't find the website with the solution. I remember the change is to edit a settings file. Anyone know where the MT940 import template (or something like that) are kept?

08:20:34 <warlord> scar: the employee tools in gnucash are designed more for employee expense reimbursement. Not for payroll.

09:30:38 <x72> hello
09:31:59 <x72> I am using gnucash 2.2.9. It looks like an "expense" or "income" account cannot be a sub-account of a "bank" account. I want to have a toplevel account named "old/closed/unused accounts" in which I would put various types of sub-accounts, including bank, credit card, income, and expense accounts. Is that impossible ?
09:39:02 *** gjanssens has joined #gnucash
09:39:02 *** gncbot sets mode: +o gjanssens
09:40:55 <warlord> x72: yes, that is impossible.
09:41:50 <warlord> You would need two top-levels: Old/Closed/Unused Assets&Liabilities, and Old/Closed/Unused Income&Expense
09:43:38 <x72> ok, thanks
09:44:38 *** Jimraehl has left #gnucash
09:49:26 <x72> it looks like the "grand total" displayed at the very bottom of the main window doesn't get update automatically when one modifies the types of the accounts
09:49:32 <x72> updated
09:49:44 <warlord> That would be correct.
09:49:52 <warlord> Restart gnucahs and it will recompute
09:50:02 <x72> do you mean this is the expected behaviour ?
09:51:19 <warlord> yes
09:51:25 <warlord> if you change account types?? Yes.
09:51:37 <warlord> Why are you changing account types of accounts with data in them?
09:51:54 <x72> because I never cared about account types before. now I've read the documentation and set them accordingly.
09:53:11 <warlord> Like I said, restart gnucash and it'll correct itself.
09:54:00 <x72> I've done that, it works, thanks. but that was not intuitive, which is why I thought I might mention it... but if it's the expected behaviour, all is well.
09:56:43 <jsled> seems like a "known bug" more than "expected behavior"
09:57:04 <jsled> x72: if you haven't tried/seen the "common accounts" hierarchy, it might be worth looking at
09:57:15 <jsled> Even just on a throwaway new datafile.
09:57:52 <x72> I'll have a look, thanks
10:13:27 <warlord> gotta run

10:29:38 <x72> is there a way to search for all transactions between different currencies ? (or possibly, between currency X and currency Y)

12:41:08 <alban> Hi all, just wondered is there was an idea of schedule for v2.4 ?
12:42:19 <alban> or, more precisely, if 2.3.13 was reasonably safe to use, provided I use a good backup solution ? I'm looking of a mutiuser accounting solution, so the SQL support of 2.3/2.4 is really attractive
12:42:49 <kimmo_> I use just separate files for multiuser...
12:43:53 <alban> no i mean 1 company but several users at the same time
12:44:32 <alban> typically, the accountant for data entry, and admin for having a look at reports etc
12:45:19 <alban> and maybe sales for managing customers, invoices etc
12:45:21 <kimmo_> ah
12:45:39 <kimmo_> too complicated for me :(
12:45:49 <alban> :)
12:47:33 <kimmo_> I only have 1 user (me) for my accounts for my businesses
12:47:52 <kimmo_> which is fine, since I'm a control freak
12:47:59 <kimmo_> there! I admitted it!
12:56:47 *** gjanssens has quit IRC
13:01:16 <alban> hehe
13:01:41 <alban> yeah well, the less I have to mess with accounting the better :)
13:02:55 <alban> so i'd rather just check and not do :)

13:16:25 <caleb> does anyone know if GnuCash can do cashflow projections or reports?
13:17:54 <caleb> I currently use kmymoney, but recently got a mac. So I'm looking for an open source finance application that can run on mac.
13:18:47 <caleb> I also like that the next version of GnuCash can use a database.
13:19:35 <caleb> But the main feature that I'm looking for in financial software is the ability to setup my scheduled transactions (paycheck/bills) and be able to see a report of my cashflow in the coming months.
