02:56:40 <candyflip> is accounts receivable a type of equity account?
02:57:18 <candyflip> I'm trying to determine if I create an account receivable for invoicing, where should it go in the tree of accounts
03:15:27 <candyflip> nevermind.. seems to be an asset

05:04:09 <maxsu> Good morning!
05:05:22 <maxsu> I've got two questions I'd like to ask, and I'm hoping someone's awake :)
05:06:09 <maxsu> The first: is there any way to export charts to something like open office?
05:08:33 <maxsu> The second: Is there any way that I can customize the parameters of my charts and reports and put these in a category of my commonly used charts and reports?
05:25:26 *** ErKa has joined #gnucash
05:34:52 <hvx> maxsu: regarding your first question, you have 2 options
05:35:07 <hvx> option 1: Use a tool: http://www.alice-dsl.net/gnuc2ooo/gnuc2ooo_de/intro.html
05:35:38 <hvx> option 2: Use Gnucash Version 2.4 or greater and store the data in an SQL Database. Then connect with OpenOffice to the SQL Database.
05:48:06 <maxsu> Thanks hvx, I'll see if your first suggestion works for doing what I have in mind
05:52:54 <maxsu> hvx: As for version 2.4, is that an available development branch? I find only 2.3

06:20:46 <maxsu> hvx, this is fantastic. I did not imagine that open office had anything like datapilot

07:27:34 <gary> Hi, wondering if someone can assist in trying to work out a problem I have with gnucash. I have an FC13 beta box with gnucash 2.3.11 install from rpm. Everything i've used on a previous gnucash install seems to work fine, but i've been trying to add logos and things to invoices. But it's just not working.
07:28:33 <gary> I followed the documentation I could find about creating a new stylesheet, i've confirmed that the invoice i'm creating is using the new stylesheet as the colour of the total part of the invoice has changed from yellow to white.
07:28:51 <gary> But I also tried adding various different types of images to the logo/banner/background
07:28:57 <gary> But they never seem to actually appear
07:29:11 <gary> I'm sure i'm doing something stupid :)
07:29:17 <gary> I'm jut not sure what.

09:13:10 <maynard> Hello all. Question about personal accounting. I recently purchased a car and bought the extended warranty because it was a fleet vehicle and I'm currently unable to self insure against maintenance charges.
09:14:00 <maynard> Is the warranty an expense? An Asset? Does it get recorded in the price of the vehicle or a separate asset account?
09:14:27 <maynard> If an asset, do I write it down over the length of the warranty period?

10:29:00 <warlord> maynard: I would consider it an expense.
10:31:57 <maynard> Thanks warlord. I would too in a personal setting. Warranties are weird though.
10:40:23 <maynard> But if I were to sell the car today, I would get some of that warranty money back. It is something that has value. Would that then be income? No.
10:41:16 <maynard> I guess at that point, I would just credit the expense account.
10:43:03 <warlord> I would just consider it towards the value of the car.
10:43:38 <warlord> For example, you pay $10k for the car, and $1k for the warranty.. When you go to sell the car you're not going to get > 10k
10:43:59 <warlord> So if you get $9k, you can apply that towards the asset itself..
10:44:05 <warlord> (depends on your depreciation, of course)
10:44:17 <warlord> But you should ask an accountant!

11:00:55 <maynard> If I could afford an accountant, I wouldn't have bought the warranty. :)

11:39:54 <warlord> what does having a car warranty have to do with asking an accountant anything?
11:50:28 <warlord> anyways, gotta go. I'll be back online late tonight or tomorrow night.
11:50:33 <maynard> Heh. Well, I'm going through a divorce and as a result have $0 savings and my income barely covers my expenses. I
11:50:34 <maynard> kk.
11:50:38 <maynard> I'll finish the story later.
11:50:39 <maynard> :)
