03:06:20 <gour> morning
03:06:47 <gour> i was playing few days with scheme to get a feeling for the language in order to be able to customize reports in gnucash
03:10:59 <gour> now i'm thinking about some practical issues in gnucash..let me red FAQs first
03:11:29 *** warlord has joined #gnucash
03:14:17 <warlord> jsled, linas__ -- can you op gncbot when you get the chance?
03:20:15 *** e-ndy has joined #gnucash
03:24:20 <gour> ok..since my account is most probably not using gnucash but some win32 crap, the question is what is recommended way to export my gnucash data in a way to be importable by him?
03:31:56 *** trucklover has joined #gnucash
03:32:43 <warlord> gour: gnucash2qif?
03:33:21 <gour> warlord: is qif widely supported on windows in accounting world?
03:33:55 <warlord> QIF == Quicken Interchange Format
03:34:02 <warlord> What app is he using?
03:34:23 <warlord> Most programs of any importance can import QIF
03:36:03 <gour> i do not know which one...this is croatia, but good to hear there is good support
03:36:45 <gour> another thing...i read soem thread in archives about emailing invoices (2004 or so)...anything happened with it, i.e. can one launch external mua and attach pdf/html invoice?
03:37:48 <warlord> Of course.
03:38:00 <warlord> It's just that gnucash wont launch the email client for you
03:38:58 <gour> is it possible to get html as attachment as well?
03:40:23 <warlord> Sure, export the invoice report as html instead of printing it to a pdf
03:43:28 <gour> ok. that's good-enough
03:44:51 <gour> gnucash2togif's last version is from '06. does it still work?
03:44:59 <warlord> it should
03:45:29 <gour> ok

10:42:34 <warlord> thx jsled
10:42:48 <warlord> raleightile: look in gnucash.trace for the scheme error from the report?
10:42:51 <AlexStacey> hi guys, Is there any way to look at a single month's activity in gnucash? I've tried setting my accounting period to be 1 month which then displays in the accounts list as "Total (period)" but when I open an account, it's the full list of transactions again.
10:43:27 <warlord> AlexStacey: accounts always show all txns.
10:44:11 <warlord> You can set a register to only display some # txns, but not only txns after a certain date
10:44:17 <warlord> (by default)
10:44:38 <warlord> Once you open the account you can go into the View menu and set it to only show txns by date
10:44:39 <AlexStacey> warlord: Ok. I'm trying to see things on a month-by-month basis. Is there a way to do that
10:45:41 <warlord> there's no way to set it up to do that by default.
10:45:50 <warlord> but you can do it after you open a register; View ->
10:45:59 <AlexStacey> Ok, is there a way to select a bunch of transactions and get a total for them?
10:47:56 <AlexStacey> I've seen the Filter by... thing in the view menu but it doesn't help me to find out what the totals for the range I'm viewing are
10:50:04 <warlord> No
10:50:11 <warlord> Well, yes... in a report.
10:50:25 <warlord> But not in the CoA or Register.
10:50:28 <AlexStacey> I've gone from using an open office spreadsheet to now having all my accounts all nice and balanced, penny-perfect in fact (which I'm pleased about!), but now I'm missing the simplicity of sum()
10:50:33 <AlexStacey> right, ok
10:52:28 <AlexStacey> None of the reports quite does what I want and I don't have time (or inclination) to learn scheme so I guess I'm going to have to try to find another option for this
10:52:34 <AlexStacey> Thank you for your advice
10:57:09 <warlord> Even the Transaction Report?
10:57:23 * AlexStacey looks
10:57:36 <raleightile> hey, in gnucash.trace, is the newest at the top or bottom?
10:58:24 <warlord> bottom
11:02:39 <AlexStacey> warlord: that's actually not far off what i need!
11:02:55 <warlord> :)
