02:36:01 <gour> morning
02:37:08 <gour> i'm reading 'the scheme' book in order to be able to tweak gnucash (starting with reports), but soon enough i've discovered that some of the stuff desribed in the book (e.g. square brackets & 'let') are not
02:37:25 <gour> supported by guile < 1.9.x
02:38:05 <gour> otoh, gnucash supports only up to 1.8.x...anyone more familiar with guile can say how difficult would be to build gnucash against 1.9/2.0 ?
02:48:22 *** warlord-afk is now known as warlord
02:48:26 <warlord> gour: probably nearly impossible.
02:48:35 <warlord> And guile-1.8 certainly supports "let"
02:48:55 <warlord> (no idea what you mean by 'square brackets')
02:49:04 <warlord> but... I must go to sleep now.

10:19:26 *** warlord-afk is now known as warlord
10:19:30 <warlord> gour: I'm back
11:18:05 <gour> warlord: now i'm back as well
11:19:19 <warlord> okay
11:20:12 <gour> i resolved my 'dilemma' by being told on mailing list - i should use older (3rd ed. of TSPL) book, use parens instead of brackets etc. :-)
11:20:52 <warlord> hehehehe
11:21:00 <gour> now, i'm curious about gnucash & guile-2.0 ? how/when will it happen?
11:21:39 <warlord> Not during 2.4
11:21:52 <warlord> After 2.4 maybe someone (you?) will look at it
11:21:58 <gour> i also asked about 'best' major mode for emacs...but since geiser requires guile-2, we'll stay with quack for now
11:22:15 <gour> it looks it's not easy?
11:22:46 <warlord> I dont know...
11:22:48 <gour> guile-2.0 brings VM on the scene, right?
11:22:51 <warlord> It may be trivial
11:23:03 <warlord> No clue. I'm not a guiler. I dont follow guile dev
11:23:36 <warlord> If it were me I would've used a different language.. I didn't choose scheme/guile. That was chosen by the group of devs prior to me
11:23:41 * gour hopes guile guys will help considering gnucash is important piece of software
11:23:56 <gour> heh
11:24:07 <gour> what would you choose today? lua?
11:25:32 * gour prefers haskell's syntax over scheme's parens...but scheme is not so bad (language) eventually
11:26:07 <gour> otoh, more i read/see about gnucash, i'm really impressed
11:26:56 <gour> do you prefer gtk+ over qt? i've tried cutecash 'demo' :-)
11:27:45 <warlord> I... don't know.
11:27:58 <warlord> As much as I hate to admit it, I'd probably choose python (even though I *hate* python)
11:28:05 <warlord> Haven't looked at cutecash
11:30:27 <gour> heh, one of my alternatives for invoicing (no accounting) was to use tryton (fork of openerp), but the stuff is not documented well and one has to use python along with writing XML for UI...gnucash looks much nicer solutiun for me
11:30:54 <gour> otoh, although i like gtk+, i'll use qt(haskell) for my next desktop project
11:37:01 <warlord> Again, gtk was chosen a long long time ago.
11:39:32 <gour> yep
11:41:32 <gour> i was thinking about wx as well, but they do not have enough resources to compete wit qt...gtk's support for mac is not the best, and we want to have kind of 'desktop-lite' running on mobile (possibly meego, so qt is clear choice...so, cutecash is not bad idea (if the code is abstracted nicely)

18:08:14 <vertigo> Would GnuCash be a good group finance tool? Group that consists of ~50 persons, all having a personal banc.account, and 1 central group account. Users can be negative or positive
18:12:15 <jsled> as 51 different files, yes. :)
