07:08:25 <einstein14> hello
07:13:30 <einstein14> I have Some account in different bank. I'd like to group each account of the same bank in one "categorie". At this time I have made one account (Actif (avoir) in french don't know how to translate it) for each bank and the reals account as subaccount. Is that the good solution?

09:39:43 *** carop has joined #gnucash
09:40:06 <kimmo> that's a good solution
09:41:44 <carop> hello. Just installed gnucash 2.2.9 (on a brand new fedora 12 -- I used the fedora package gnucash). When I type in gnucash an accented character, e.g. "é", I get a scrambled result, e.g. "é" (just as utf-8 interpreted as latin-1)
09:42:15 <carop> this is very strange, what could the cause be and how could I solve it ?
09:46:52 *** jewie has joined #gnucash
09:49:22 *** blizgerg has joined #gnucash
09:57:09 *** jewie has quit IRC
10:12:31 <carop> also the problem happens if I run "gnucash" but it does not happen if I run "strace gnucash"
10:15:02 <carop> another question : how does gnucash remember which file to open on startup ? it does not seem to be stored in ~/.gnucash
10:16:47 <jsled> it's stored in gconf.
10:17:14 <jsled> carop: while gtk is utf-8 safe, the pre-gtk2 register code isn't necessarily.
10:17:32 <jsled> is your system locale utf-8 compatible?
10:17:33 <jsled> or something else?
10:18:01 <carop> yes my system locale is en_US.UTF-8
10:24:39 <carop> very frustrating
10:27:09 <carop> so now I have alias gnucash="strace -enone gnucash"

12:09:26 <warlord> twanny796: usually for Check Number (for written checks). You can also use it to force an order on transactions that occur on the same day

13:54:24 <twanny796> warlord: thank you, are you still here?
13:54:55 <warlord> yes
13:56:10 <twanny796> warlord: so I can use the num column for reference and it would not affect gnucash in any way?
13:56:11 *** Jimraehl has quit IRC
14:00:24 <warlord> It's just another data column.
14:00:28 <warlord> Define "affect gnucash"
14:01:56 <twanny796> what I'm doing is this
14:02:17 <twanny796> I download the Qif file from the bank and import it into the current account
14:02:42 <twanny796> then I check against the checks and bank withdrawel chits etc
14:03:17 <twanny796> So I need some kind of pointer to indicate where I left off

15:29:26 <harlan> warlord: I suspect a "checkbox" that wasn't connected to anything would be ideal.
15:30:02 <warlord> harlan: what do you mean "wasn't connected to anything"?
15:30:34 <harlan> Just a "state" (checked/unchecked") in the db, that could be toggled from the UI
15:31:51 <harlan> please not I haven't used a recent gnucash yet - I have no idea what has changed since the version I last downloaded, many months ago (and I haven't used it recently, either - I'm about to start in again.
15:37:00 <warlord> What version are you using?
15:37:16 <warlord> What kind of flag do you want? There seriously are lots of things that you could use.
15:37:41 <warlord> Adding a new flag for you just so you can keep track of the last date you loaded your QIF? That seems extremely overkill.

16:15:43 <harlan> I'm just saying if there was such a feature I'd use it, and it seems to be what twanney796 was asking for, too.
16:16:51 <harlan> I thought he was talking about going thru the uploaded data to see which deposit/check/receipt was already processed, not somehting to see the last date of an upload.
16:18:31 <flecto> hello all...my credit union does not allow direct connect. therefore, I am forced to login and manually download and import transactions. is there a setting somewhere that will enable a ofx/qfx import to append the bank memo to the note field in m register...similar to what the qif import does. thanks.

17:10:35 <warlord> harlan: for that there's the 'cleared' reconciliation flag.
