00:38:00 <mishehu> warlord-afk: tell your friend to get the X crap out of the skype client library then. :-)
00:38:29 <mishehu> I'd use mod_skypiax in freeswitch but I don't want to have to fake X sessions because of that botched library

10:11:14 <gjanssens> Hi, I am trying to move gnc-filepath-utils.* from engine to core-utils
10:11:31 <gjanssens> Is it ok if a core utils file depends on qof ?
10:12:01 <gjanssens> Reason for the move is partly because the comment in the file itself
10:12:14 <gjanssens> stating gnc-filepath-utils doesn't really belong in engine
10:12:49 <gjanssens> and partly because I am creating some utility library to become consistent internal uris
10:13:09 <gjanssens> this library depends on the filepath library.
10:14:50 <gjanssens> Problem is, gnc-filepath-utils depends on qof to retrieve the list of registered backends
10:16:17 <warlord> libqof is built before core-utils, so it should be safe to depend on it.
10:16:49 <gjanssens> Ok, thanks

14:17:46 <JesseW> Thanks for accepting my patches to fix doxygen warnings, and the fix to gnc-svnversion -- is there a chance that the doxygen configuration patch might get some review?
14:24:03 <gjanssens> JesseW: personally, I don't see problems with your patch, but I was holding back because I wanted to hear what the other devs thought of it.
14:24:28 <warlord> I have a few concerns over that.. The main one being whether the version of doxygen on the server accepts/supports those tags.
14:24:34 * gjanssens is fairly new in the GnuCash pool, so he's still fairly prudent
14:25:18 <JesseW> warlord: that makes sense. I'll look into it, and post to the list.
14:25:28 <warlord> the other concern is whether we should really print the static function documentation in the same place as the published apis
14:26:44 <JesseW> Hm. Regarding that, It should be possible to generate two sets -- with prominent disclaimers about the unsettledness of the static functions...
14:31:20 <warlord> Could do something like that.. Are you suggesting "make doc" create two trees?
14:35:42 <JesseW> Yes, I think so.
14:36:40 <JesseW> I just looked over the doxygen changelogs between 1.5.7.1 (as used on the server) and 1.6.1 (as I was using), and I don't see anything that would suggest the options I altered would break in 1.5.7.1
14:38:18 <JesseW> Yeah, we could generate one tree just containing the public API (without source code), and another containing all the functions (with source code) and big notices that non-published parts are unstable.
14:39:56 <JesseW> The current situation is bad, because the doxygen-style-documentation of static functions is hidden from everywhere except direct inspection of the file in svnview or on a developer's machine. This makes it harder to understand the code.

15:46:32 <MRT> question: when I use the transfer funds window the info I type in the memo does not appear in the account register of the accounts affected by the transfer. Is this a bug or can someone explain what to do? Using Gnucash 2.2.9 on windows 7. Thanks.
15:48:49 <warlord> Did you try both expanding the split and View -> Double Line Mode ?
15:49:11 <warlord> I think the memo from that dialog goes into the Transaction Notes field, which is only viewable in double-line mode.
15:53:18 <MRT> I had Basic Ledger and Double line Mode checked. Just tried the auto-split ledger and now it shows up. I expected it to show in the transaction notes line like you said but it didn't. Thanks for the help.
15:56:36 <warlord> you're welcome.

16:03:56 <gjanssens> Another file move question.
16:04:16 <gjanssens> gnc-filepath-utils has been moved now from engine to core-utils
16:04:33 <gjanssens> I still have to move the tests for it
16:05:02 <gjanssens> However, test-gnc-filepath-utils includes the general test-stuff.h header
16:05:28 <gjanssens> which is in src/test-core, which is built after core-utils and gnc-module
16:06:09 <gjanssens> The reason for this build order seems to be src/test-core/gncmod-test.c
16:06:18 <gjanssens> which obviously depends on gnc-module
16:06:41 <gjanssens> I don't see why this file is in src/test-core and not in gnc-module-test
16:08:41 <gjanssens> It also doesn't seem to be used anywhere in any tests
16:08:49 <warlord> I... don't know.
16:08:51 <gjanssens> Perhaps this file can be removed ?
16:09:25 *** MRT has quit IRC
16:09:26 <gjanssens> I checked each an every function in it. It's not called anywhere.
16:09:30 <warlord> Well, if it's not used then sure.
16:10:23 <cstim> warlord: What do you think about the Google Summer of Code?
16:12:14 <warlord> I was thinking about it. I dont think I have time to mentor, but I can try to find the time to be the admin.
16:13:23 <cstim> warlord: I would be grateful if you could do the admin stuff
16:13:50 <cstim> warlord: but as I wrote, I would be up to mentoring for one student or maybe two this time.
16:14:05 <cstim> (maybe students interested in C++/Qt programming, heh)
16:14:18 <warlord> Okay.. Can we find other devs willing to mentor?
16:15:40 <gjanssens> I have been thinking about it, but I'm afraid I can't
16:16:05 <gjanssens> I'll be out of town most of the summer, so I wouldn't be much of a mentor
16:16:29 <gjanssens> Not to speak of me being rather green myself still
16:17:55 <warlord> Okay...
16:18:05 <warlord> If we only have 1 mentor, is it worth applying?
16:21:05 <kimmo> why bother, gnc is perfect already ;)
16:22:03 <kimmo> except for one thing. The default icon (is it, or is it not part of the distro) for the gnucash menu item (at least for fedora) has a line graph :(
16:25:35 <cstim> warlord: yes, 1 mentor would be enough - I guess we won't be granted more than 2 or at most 3 students
16:25:58 <cstim> and I think a second mentor will shop up sooner or later.

16:30:59 <cstim> Recently I read this book: http://gettingreal.37signals.com/

17:16:44 <Antisoche> Hello. I'm running gnucash-2.2.9-0ubuntu4 and it's "freezing". Can anyone help?
17:17:01 <warlord> What do you do just before it freezes?
17:18:14 <Antisoche> Thanks. Not necessarily anything. The first time it happened I was in the middle of adding an account and then I went to surf the help to figure out what I was doing. This time I hadn't done anything in particular ...
17:19:09 <Antisoche> It's not completely frozen -- the screen will repaint and in fact I can resize it, but the program doesn't respond to left or right mouse clicks - neither the application space proper nor the menus.
17:19:12 <warlord> move the window around and see if there's a modal dialog behind?
17:19:33 *** andyt has quit IRC
17:19:34 <Antisoche> In fact, I can click the (X) on the window and it just gets consumed.
17:19:51 <warlord> That's definitely sounding like a pop-behind dialog..
17:21:18 <Antisoche> bah. That's it
17:21:31 <Antisoche> "Save file automatically?"
17:21:46 <Antisoche> Apparently chrome doesn't like being sent to the background...
17:22:49 <Antisoche> Can I ask about organizing my accounts? I'm a bit confused about the best structure (not an accountant by trade...)

17:24:09 *** Gokee2 has quit IRC
17:24:14 <warlord> what's the question (note: I need to leave shortly so you may have to wait an hour or so for a response)
17:24:20 <Antisoche> I have a CD account setup under "Assets : Current Assets : Bank CD" (accounts provided by the setup wizard) and a similar one under "Interest Income" (per the help)
17:24:44 <Antisoche> It rolls over every 3 months, so I presume I have to do this repeatedly.
17:25:09 <Antisoche> But I also have a second bank account and the example assumes that the Cd and savings are at the same place.
17:25:24 <warlord> no, when it rolls over you can just perform an Income -> Asset transaction.
17:25:54 <Antisoche> Should I put each bank under "Current Assets" or not group things by bank?
17:25:58 <warlord> in that case create Assets:Current Assets:{Bank1,Bank2}:...
17:26:05 <warlord> I'd group by bank.
17:26:31 <Antisoche> Ok. Not Asset:CD:Bank, but Asset:Bank:Account
17:27:38 <Antisoche> How about: Should I put the account number in the description or is that a generally bad idea? Each time the CD rolls I get a new account number for it.
17:29:11 <warlord> That's up to you. I wouldn't worry about that. Assets:Current Assets:BofA:CD is probably sufficient for you.
17:29:55 <Antisoche> Well, it gets a little more complicated because the CD is in a foreign currency and I haven't dealt with that tax-wise yet
17:30:18 <warlord> Well, that means you should have the Income and CD accounts in the foreign currency.
17:30:23 <warlord> Alas, I need to leave now.... Good Luck.
17:30:25 <Antisoche> But I also want to use GnuCash for a Small Business I'm setting up and I'd like to do everything the proper way.
