08:18:02 <l403> hello. would gnucash be able to work as a single cash register terminal in a restaurant?
08:24:31 <warlord> l403: gnucash isn't a POS system
08:25:00 <l403> what does POS stand for?
08:25:41 <warlord> Point of Sale
08:26:07 <l403> do you know of a project that would be able to serve this purpose?
08:27:41 <warlord> Not offhand. There used to be a GnuPOS project but I don't know if it's still around.
08:28:33 <l403> OK. Thank you and bye

20:05:38 <roe_> when entering a new invoice, is there a way to get the 'Customer' field to auto fill-in as I type?
20:07:17 *** skyline has joined #gnucash
20:07:23 <skyline> Enter text here...hi
20:07:41 <skyline> anyone can help me out with accounting problem?
20:08:32 *** skyline has quit IRC
20:17:12 <shade304> roe_: not as far as I know, you just push the button beside customer and then type a few letters of the name and hit enter, it will present a list of names matching your search
20:18:07 <roe_> yea, I see that, an auto-fill would improve that work flow tremendously
20:18:42 <roe_> when I have some time I'll take a look at the 2.3 branch and see what has changed
20:19:19 <shade304> I wish the line items on invoices would auto fill!
20:19:42 <roe_> you mean the description field?
20:20:37 <shade304> yes
20:20:46 <roe_> I'm excited for 2.4 because with a read db engine we can work on integrating something like simple invoices with gnucash
20:20:50 <roe_> s/read/real
20:21:38 <roe_> we'll be able to use simple invoices (an invoicing package that better suits our needs) for invoicing while also using the power of gnucash for book keeping
20:22:10 <shade304> I don't know why they don't put more effort into importing and exporting everything, to me gnucash is awesome at double entry accounting, but when you try to make it a pim, or sales program it can't quite get it
20:23:08 <shade304> is that what you are using?
20:24:01 <roe_> 2.4 is going to have some very nice additions
20:24:16 <shade304> The best thing I ever did to improve workflow was to set up shortcut keys, if you can work without a mouse you can really get something done!
20:24:26 <roe_> that is key
20:24:41 <shade304> Ctl+N for new invoice, Ctl+B for new bill, ect..
20:24:48 <roe_> yea
20:34:34 <shade304> I'll wait till its ready, I saw something on the dev list about a large gnucash file getting truncated or something by the db, scarry@! I run real books, and hope they wait till everything is a little past perfect!
20:35:11 <shade304> but yes, I can't wait
20:35:34 <roe_> yea, don't think about using the unstable branch for any production data, but it is good to take it out for a spin and see how you like and if you can help make it better
20:45:28 <roe_> I accidentally marked an invoice as payed, when it isn't payed yet, do you know how to undo this?
21:04:34 *** shade304 has quit IRC
21:05:59 *** shade304 has joined #gnucash
21:07:12 <shade304> sorry I missed that, how did you mark it paid?
21:07:46 <roe_> used the 'process payment' button
21:08:06 <shade304> what version are you using
21:08:31 <shade304> on the reminder screen?
21:08:32 <roe_> 2.2.9
21:09:25 <shade304> pushing the process payment button opens a payment window with the vendor/bill/date/amount already filled out, is this what you see?
21:09:39 <roe_> yea
21:10:20 <shade304> you should find the transaction in the register for the account you used to receive the money or pay the bill
21:10:35 <roe_> ok
21:10:40 <shade304> right click it and "jump"
21:11:07 <shade304> then you should be in the AR or AP register on the line of the transaction, you can delete it there
21:11:55 <roe_> and that will mark the invoice as 'unpaid'?
21:12:02 <shade304> warlord could tell you more about what is going on underneath, he wrote that part
21:12:05 <shade304> yes
21:12:41 <shade304> I know you shouldn't edit those "business" transactions, just delete them and start over if they are messed up
21:12:44 <roe_> nice
21:12:53 <roe_> thanks for the tip
21:13:06 <shade304> but you can change the date on them
21:13:13 <shade304> no problem
