13:58:26 <poningru> where are the logs kept for gnucash?
13:58:38 <poningru> the docs do not say anything about logs
13:58:51 <poningru> the logs for the ofx connection
13:59:14 <poningru> the gui ofcourse has a close immediately after done checked on
13:59:47 <poningru> so I cant figure out how to view the error of no ofx connection
14:11:06 <poningru> anyone alive?
14:18:59 *** russruss has joined #gnucash
14:21:01 <russruss> Hey, so I'm just getting gnucash up and running and I'm trying to quickly enter account history for the last few months from my bank account. I imported an OFX file and am now going through and marking which expense account each transaction goes to. However, it seems that there isn't a way to select multiple transactions and move them all to the same account. Am I missing something? Is there any way to quickly get my history entere
14:21:01 <russruss> gnucash?
14:22:31 *** jcreigh has quit IRC
14:23:58 <poningru> russruss, I dont think there are any support people alive right now
14:24:15 <poningru> russruss, I'm trying to get some questions answered as well
14:24:54 <russruss> poningru: fair enough. Any idea how to do what I'm trying to do? It's pretty mind blowing that there's not some method to enter transactions other than one-by-one
14:25:38 <poningru> no clue
14:25:42 <poningru> sorry mate
14:25:47 <poningru> I'm not even at your level yet
14:26:08 <poningru> I cant even get a ofx file or have gnucash connect to my bank's ofx server
14:27:49 <poningru> russruss, honestly I think gnucash has stagnated
14:27:58 <poningru> docs have bitrotted
14:28:07 <poningru> etc.
14:28:58 <russruss> yeah, I guess so. unfortunate, it seems really nice other than a few bells and whistles that would really help someone like me who doesn't have a lot of time for this stuff
14:29:11 <poningru> indeed
14:30:19 <russruss> yeah, I mean if there were a way to automatically send transactions with certain descriptions to certain accounts I'd be all over this
14:31:10 <poningru> russruss, there is supposed to be a bayseian filter that is supposed to match it
14:31:13 <poningru> no idea how it works
14:32:48 <russruss> hmmm... happen to have a link for that?
14:33:44 <poningru> it's in preferences under online banking
14:33:52 <poningru> no idea where in the docs it might be
14:41:36 <russruss> huh, well I guess once its in your account you basically can't edit transactions easily but there's a little import screen that seems to be a bit better
14:43:38 <poningru> hmm
14:44:01 <poningru> russruss, so how did you get the ofx file?
14:44:11 <poningru> I'm trying to import my bank data into gnucash
14:44:12 <russruss> my bank had a huge "DOWNLOAD FILE NOW" button
14:44:24 <russruss> on the account history page
14:45:12 <poningru> oh...
14:45:43 <poningru> gnucash does connect with the banks
14:45:51 <poningru> I'm trying to have it connect
14:45:59 <poningru> it seems to be running into errors
14:46:04 <poningru> I just dont know what the errors are
14:47:36 <russruss> a lot of banks have super duper security stuff now
14:47:51 <russruss> like my bank for example always asks a security question before it lets you log in
14:47:59 <poningru> yeah same here
14:47:59 <russruss> and it just started like in august
14:48:08 <poningru> but it has an ofx connection
14:48:09 <russruss> so if gnucash hasn't been updated to do that since then
14:48:24 <russruss> I'm not sure it's that simple
14:48:34 <poningru> no ofx is a nice little exchange protocol
14:48:40 <russruss> like I'm not an expert but I remember mint took forever to work with my bank when they changed their security system
14:48:46 <russruss> huh
14:48:51 <poningru> mint?
14:48:56 <poningru> oh the online thing
14:49:00 <russruss> yeah
14:50:47 <poningru> I just wish gnucash would let me atleast view the errors
14:51:03 <poningru> unfortunately modal interfaces being what they are...
14:51:31 <russruss> hehe yeah
14:52:41 <russruss> god this "bayesian filter" is crazy
14:53:25 <russruss> I'm kinda scared of messing with the parameters
14:56:13 *** nomeata has quit IRC
14:56:50 <poningru> russruss, is it working ok?
14:56:58 <russruss> no, not at all
14:57:21 <russruss> I think if you turn it off you get the behavior I want though where it just automatches descriptions to accounts
14:57:49 <russruss> but you have to do it in the import dialog and to apply the rules you have to cancel and re-import
14:58:06 <poningru> gnucash would improve a LOT from some ui love
14:59:19 <russruss> yeah, I was just going to say
15:00:15 <russruss> like, there's no reason to believe that canceling and re-importing would apply some hidden, un-editable import settings
15:00:24 <russruss> but apparently it does
15:02:48 <poningru> yeah I think I'm gonna go with kmymoney
15:06:43 <russruss> ahh, the joys of having a real free OS :-). I'm on OSX right no so that's not an option for me :(

18:21:45 <Don> System crashed and had to reload. In process, lost GnuCash. I have a recent backup of what I thought was my entire books under DesertDiabetesResources. I hav no back up xac file. I have re loaderd GnuCash(2.2.9) but have been unable to retrieve my business books. Is there a way to get my company books back from my saved DesertDiabetesResources file or must I have a xac file to accomplish this
18:21:47 <Don> ?

18:36:36 *** russruss has quit IRC
18:36:50 <Finder> Hey all, is there a way to run scheduled transactions ahead of time?
18:41:11 <Finder> besides changing your system clock I mean
18:41:57 <jsled> Finder: in short: not the way you want
18:42:14 <jsled> you can set the "create in advance" setting, but this will actually create them, for real, on the books, post-dated.
18:51:10 *** ecolitan has quit IRC
18:59:59 *** cort has quit IRC
19:10:43 <Finder> jsled: That may be what I want, but not all of the time...mainly like if I get paid on Friday for the 1st even though it's the 26th
19:11:00 <jsled> ah.
19:11:05 <Finder> it'd be nice to go ahead and run all of the stuff for the 1st (which I have been by just changing the clock and opening it so it runs)
19:11:31 <jsled> for that, I recommend using "remind in advance X days", then either changing the transaction to "create" or leaving it "remind" in the SLR view.
19:11:49 <Finder> Ok, great, thanks. :)
19:11:53 <jsled> it's still not a great or even good solution.
19:12:14 <Finder> Yeah, and it wouldn't be a big deal if I didn't set up my budget with subaccounts
19:12:18 <Finder> with auto transfers and stuff
19:12:55 <Finder> thanks though, I'll play with that. :)
