00:25:53 <itsols> Pls help understand this... How do I only enter invoice amounts without entering the details of the bill? Say I have a separate sales program and I only want to post those amounts here. Is this possible?

02:33:03 <itsols> I have another question: when entering accounts receivable, what does TYPE mean? It has two values I and P. I just selected I and now I can't seem to change any entry on it. Please help
02:34:47 <thomas> I means Invoice P means Payment. If the type is I then you can't edit.
02:35:26 <thomas> The word is that you should not edit A/R directly.
02:36:25 <thomas> or A/P. Only via the Business menues.
02:44:48 <itsols> thank you thomas but how do I enter the sales without having to enter the details of the bill ? If I use the business menu, I am compelled to enter the invoice details as well isn't it?
02:48:02 <thomas> itsols: I am a just begining with this, so the only reason I answered your last question was that I asked the exact same thing two days ago - but for a different reason.
02:50:34 <itsols> Thank you thomas once again. I really appreciate your help. I shall keep you informed if I come up with more info. I'm coming from a development background and I've always wanted to build an accounting app. I came across gnucash quite recently when I thought of doing my accounts using an open source app... If this package proves itself, I'll definitely contribute with new upgrades and features in the future. Thank you again.
02:57:49 <thomas> I have only been fooling with GnuCash for a few weeks, but I find that it is very capable and the developers are thoughtful. I am at the stage where I need to customize things and get accounts and proceedures setup so I can hand it off to others.

12:02:19 <JesseW-afk> warlord: the order matters because I'm trying to copy in a pre-printed set of categories off a reciept, and there are ~20 categories -- having them in a random order is a lose.
12:03:33 <JesseW-afk> jsled: I did find exactly where in the code it generates them, and yes, it's reading them out of a hashmap. Would there be interest if I hacked up a patch to output them in alphabetical order, instead?
12:03:47 <jsled> sure, go for it. :)
12:06:15 <JesseW-afk> jsled: cool. it's in this file: http://svn.gnucash.org/trac/browser/gnucash/trunk/src/gnome/dialog-sx-since-last-run.c?rev=
12:09:04 <jsled> you might want to do it in src/app-util/gnc-sx-instance-model … while sort-order is "ui", a stable variable ordering from the model is generally useful.
12:09:20 <jsled> s/is "ui"/is a ui concern/

18:22:33 <JesseW> WTF? It appears that my version of libgtkhtml (version 2.0) is /too new/ to be accepted by ./configure -- how could this be? and there is no libgtkhtml version 1 series package available... wtf??
18:23:19 <JesseW> ok, no it seems I want the version *3* series...
18:24:47 <JesseW> grumble
18:25:28 <JesseW> YAY, ./configure passes!
18:26:14 <jsled> in an abstract answer to your question … major-version changes sometimes imply API changes that require caller coding cahnges.
18:26:45 <jsled> So, it's not necessarily the case you can use version (N+1) of a lib for something coded against version N.
18:27:06 <JesseW> I do know that, and most of the time I even remember it... ;-)
18:27:58 <jsled> heh
18:28:01 <JesseW> oh, another thing to add to ./configure -- test for the presence of makeinfo
18:32:11 <JesseW> jsled: so, where is coding-style.txt, anyway?
18:33:35 <jsled> good question.
18:33:43 <jsled> where do you see a reference to it?
18:34:43 <jsled> HACKING says "changing a file: follow the file's style".
18:35:13 <jsled> There's a discussion from … last month? on gnucash-devel about which options to a tool like indent would be reasonable to achieve the "common gnucash style".
18:35:20 <jsled> that's probably the best documentation at the moment. :)

18:42:11 <JesseW> jsled: in README, it says: "Read the file src/doc/coding-style.txt to learn about the coding-styles"
18:42:18 <jsled> ah.
18:42:39 <JesseW> maybe that could be changed, if the file doesn't actually exist? ;-)
18:42:50 <jsled> it could, yup.
18:43:12 <JesseW> I'll send a patch. Where and how should I send it, btw?
18:43:31 <jsled> bugzilla is the most stable; followup to gnucash-devel if you like.
18:43:43 <JesseW> will do.
18:47:05 <JesseW> found a DESTDIR bug:
18:47:06 <JesseW> mkdir -p /home/jessew/FreeProjects/gnucash/staging/usr/local/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults
18:47:07 <JesseW> GCONF_CONFIG_SOURCE=xml::/usr/local/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults /usr/bin/gconftool-2 --makefile-install-rule apps_gnucash_history.schemas
18:47:37 <jsled> use --prefix; I think you'll find a lot more DESTDIR bugs, since we don't do that, generally.
18:47:48 <jsled> you're welcome to fix them, of course; DESTDIR support would be great.
18:48:34 <JesseW> heh. that's what it seemed. well, I'll see about doing some of them.. where would I look to find this one?
18:49:44 <jsled> no idea.
18:50:08 <JesseW> found it. just tracing back the Makefile stuff.
18:50:31 <JesseW> but tracing it back to whatever autogen.sh uses (Makefile.am, is it?) that'll be a bit more of a PITA

19:47:16 <cortana> if you want that then...
19:47:59 <cortana> wait, i don't get it. 'language to be english and accounting stuff to be us related'... what is let to be spanish?
19:48:12 <cortana> anyway. i believe on windows LANGUAGE is not checked but i may be wrong
19:50:15 <Claudia> my mistake... language Spanish and accounting stuff US related.
19:50:47 <Claudia> I just tried LANGUAGE=es LANG=es_ES and nothing happened.
19:51:30 <Claudia> I am modifying the right file? (/bin/gnucash)
19:51:54 <Claudia> I actually wrote set LANGUAGE=es set LANG=es_ES
19:53:42 <cortana> try without LANGUAGE and with LC_MESSAGE=es_ES and LANG=en_US
19:54:34 <cortana> if that doesn't work theni guess gnucash on windows behaves differently to on other platforms. however someone else here may have an answer for you tomorrow. or there's the mailing list :)
