10:58:04 <pvizeli> hi
10:59:32 <pvizeli> witch format can I export accounting entry in my program that I can import into gnucash?
10:59:58 <pvizeli> csv?
11:00:11 <pvizeli> I use gnucash 2.3.8
11:05:34 *** daedeloth has quit IRC
11:06:14 <pvizeli> http://svn.gnucash.org/trac/browser/gnucash/trunk/src/import-export/csv
11:07:24 <pvizeli> that import dosn't support accounting text only description text. Is that right?
11:16:59 <pvizeli> I've test it, but it dosn't work for me, exista a better way than csv?
11:17:33 <cortana> OFX?
11:18:12 <pvizeli> cortana: OFX can import only accounting entry?
11:18:57 <cortana> i don't quite follow. if you're trying to import transactions then gnucash can do so with QIF or OFX
11:20:58 <pvizeli> cortana: transactions is better word as accounting entry
11:28:56 *** jean has joined #gnucash
11:31:29 <pvizeli> cortana: have you a link about ofx spezification with short example?
11:33:04 <cortana> 'fraid not
11:33:14 <cortana> it's some xml-ish format that some online banks use
11:38:26 <pvizeli> cortana: my finance english are bad, I will import transaction (book xy - book xi / 12.00 / 1970-01-01) not over a real bank
11:39:13 <cortana> yes, if you can get your other program to export in QIF or OFX then you shoudl be able to import with gnucash
11:39:47 <pvizeli> thanks
11:43:02 <pvizeli> I found a nice perl tool for QIF

12:41:05 <chrisrossi> I cannot for the life of me get on line banking to work with my American Express account.
12:41:11 <chrisrossi> Can anyone help me out?
12:44:46 <warlord> It's possible that amex updated their servers such that it just wont work anymore.
13:00:52 <chrisrossi> possible.
13:01:06 <chrisrossi> i guess the real question is, does it work for anybody?
13:01:17 <chrisrossi> and can i copy your answers if it does. ;)
13:12:42 <pvizeli> how I can set the account to in QFX? BANKACCTTO dosn't work
13:27:01 <warlord> chrisrossi: I dont know. I dont use any online banking features.
13:27:17 <warlord> pvizeli: what do you mean "set the account to"?
13:27:25 <warlord> Which account do you want to set?
13:35:17 <pvizeli> warlord: I mean that I'll be a transfer from account to account
13:35:49 <pvizeli> with import, gnucash use BANKACCTFROM but not BANKACCTTO
13:36:43 <warlord> Is some bank actually giving you OFX with that set?
13:36:58 <pvizeli> I use that for my program
13:37:30 <pvizeli> I will generate accountings data and import it to gnucash
13:38:14 <warlord> OH! So YOU are generating OFX? WHy not generate QIF instead? It's a much easier format to create and it supports much more functionality than OFX.
13:39:18 <pvizeli> I found a tutorial for OFX
13:39:54 <pvizeli> about QIF I don't found usefull examples
13:40:11 <warlord> There are many examples in the gnucash source tree.
13:40:14 <warlord> And online
13:40:45 <pvizeli> on trunk/src/import-export?
13:40:53 <warlord> maybe

14:03:41 <pvizeli> warlord: with M can I set the description. How I can set the booking text?
14:04:05 <warlord> "booking text"?
14:04:06 *** bentob0x has quit IRC
14:05:36 <pvizeli> warlord: I use the german version, that is a one to one translation
14:05:46 <pvizeli> the secound text field
14:06:12 <pvizeli> is that the split?
14:06:21 <pvizeli> mom, I test it
14:06:55 <warlord> memo?
14:08:42 <pvizeli> I can use two text field, memo set first and with is for second field?
14:09:25 <pvizeli> I change the language to english
14:11:36 <pvizeli> I thinks that is the Payee
14:16:11 <pvizeli> warlord: memo, yes that is true, but gnucash dosn't use it...
14:16:53 <warlord> depends what version of gnucash you
14:16:55 <warlord> 're using.
14:17:00 <pvizeli> 2.3.8
14:17:31 <warlord> Ah, okay. That shouldn't lose data. Did you expand the transaction to see the split memos? And go into double-line mode to see the txn notes?
14:19:02 <pvizeli> Yes, I didn't see the split memos
14:19:10 <pvizeli> M and P written only to description
14:19:48 <pvizeli> If I have (M)memo it overwrite by P(payee)
14:20:47 <pvizeli> E(memo in split) also dosn't work for that
14:24:08 <warlord> Yes, P overwrites M
14:24:25 <warlord> But it should still store M in the txn notes field. View -> Double Line mode
15:04:32 *** daedeloth has joined #gnucash
15:06:32 <pvizeli> warlord: Hmm, I can't seen that in txn notes field
15:10:03 <warlord> i haven't looked at the qif importer code..
15:10:08 <warlord> (on a long time)
15:10:13 <warlord> I suggest asking on -user
15:24:07 <pvizeli> okay, thanks for support

15:25:32 <ChoHag> I'm having trouble closing 2009's accounts.
15:25:44 <ChoHag> In short - should 2010 be in the same file?
15:27:10 <ChoHag> I was under the impression that each year would have its own file.
15:27:45 <ChoHag> If not, what happens in 2040 when the file is huge?
15:31:12 <warlord> pvizeli: you're welcome. good luck.
15:31:44 <warlord> ChoHag: right now yes, it's all one file. We dont have file split support.
15:31:57 <warlord> But 2040 is 30 years from now -- by then we MIGHT have file split support! ;)
15:32:13 <ChoHag> might? :)
15:33:11 <ChoHag> I hope so because my starting balance last year was negative so until that point my accounts will always have a fat red figure on the accounts list.
15:38:41 <warlord> LOL

19:11:44 <bill> hello all. I am trying to set up a budget with "envelopes," each represented by a sub-account of my checking account. I have ofx importing set up for the parent account, but I really want the transactions to come out of the appropriate sub-accounts. Is there a way to specify both a source and destination for the imported ofx transactions? Thanks.
