16:57:41 <jsled> shade304: you can get a sense from http://lists.gnucash.org/logs/2009/11/ what nominal traffic is like.
16:57:53 <jsled> For the last … what, 3 years?
16:58:31 <jsled> yup. started 2007-01-01

17:35:52 <shade304> If a vendor issues a credit memo, how do you record it? Sounds like a payment, but I know it has to have another half.. It wouldn't come from an asset account like checking, and you can't select an expense account like COGS..

17:46:17 *** ErKa has quit IRC
17:57:29 *** warlord2 is now known as warlord
17:57:36 <warlord> shade304: Process Payment and then change the account.

18:09:56 <shade304> I read the other day you developed the Business menu?
18:12:08 <warlord> Yes
18:14:20 <shade304> Very awesome, has helped a lot.
18:15:34 <shade304> Where to change the account, it's not the checkbook register..
18:18:32 <warlord> What do you mean it's not in the checkbook register? To which account did you Process Payment?
18:19:19 <shade304> I clicked "jump" and it found it in the Accounts Payable Register
18:19:54 <shade304> I meant that I couldn't change the check book transaction to COGS and still be in the check book at the same time
18:21:34 <shade304> I think I got it now, thanks
18:26:21 <warlord> Right, because it WONT be in the checkbook account.
18:26:43 <warlord> linas: can you op gncbot ?
18:28:03 *** ErKa has quit IRC
18:29:19 <shade304> Random question: Tools>>General Ledger, it only shows back to Nov 9 for me
18:30:01 <shade304> Is there a significance to the date, or is it a setting somewhere?
18:33:40 <shade304> I thought that would be everything, but I guess after a while it would take forever to load, so it must be limited some how?

18:59:54 <warlord> sorry, had a meeting.
19:00:09 <warlord> GL only shows 1 month of txns by default.
19:00:40 <jsled> View > Filter By…
19:00:40 <shade304> no prob
19:01:03 <shade304> can you export the gen ledger
19:01:27 <warlord> Report -> Account Register Report
19:01:29 <jsled> I believe you can create a transaction report from the current view.
19:02:29 <shade304> I was thinking maybe you could massage it to show transactions for a certain vendor and then export to a file for import into another company file
19:02:39 <shade304> to much?
19:04:33 <warlord> There's no way to import business transactions.
19:05:12 <shade304> ok
19:06:31 <shade304> just wondering but for todays date I have 10 or so lines with nothing but todays date, I don't see this pattern earlier, does the general ledger clean itself up? I can't think of what would have made these blank entries
19:06:52 <warlord> blank entries are due to open registers.
19:06:56 <warlord> it's a display bug
19:07:10 <warlord> They dont really exist.
19:07:13 <shade304> ok
19:08:13 <shade304> Thanks both
19:08:40 <shade304> why are your green dots missing?
19:08:57 <shade304> "ops" dots
19:08:58 <warlord> network flakiness.. linas needs to op gncbot
19:10:17 <shade304> oh yeah, i saw the gncbot "quit"
19:11:00 <shade304> who host's the gncbot?
19:12:14 <warlord> I do
19:12:27 <warlord> I also host code/svn/email/wiki/trac ...
19:14:38 <shade304> So you are the leader so to speak of gnucash, linus is the guy that started it?
19:16:10 <shade304> I see your name on the report code, and I think I read linus home page, if it is the same person when googling for gnucash help/how to stuff
19:16:54 <warlord> well, it's linas, not linus. linus did linux. linas did gnucash ;)
19:17:13 <warlord> but yes, my name is throughout the code. jsled did a lot. linas did a lot..
19:18:34 *** XiXaQ has quit IRC
19:18:40 <shade304> i never noticed the different kind of linas and linus, but I did think what is it with developers and the name..
19:19:39 <shade304> so how did you and jsled and linas talk other developers into working on gnucash?
19:20:09 <shade304> you guys are not active in development now?
19:21:43 <warlord> Not anymore. Generally people want to join after a while..
19:21:47 <warlord> They send in patches..
19:21:51 <warlord> and then we give them SVN access.
19:22:43 <shade304> so they are self motivated, but otherwise the project is coasting?
19:24:00 <warlord> define "coasting"?
19:24:16 <shade304> no deadlines
19:24:34 <warlord> By that definition GnuCash has been coasting since its incarnation.
19:24:47 <warlord> By that definition the Linux kernel is coasting.
19:24:53 <shade304> :) it sounded harder than I meant it
19:25:21 <shade304> i think the kernel is like an avalanche coasting
19:26:47 <shade304> not to ask to many questions at once, but who is the banker so to speak for gnucash
19:27:25 <warlord> heh
19:27:50 <shade304> when people donate on sourceforge, what happens
19:29:35 <shade304> does sourceforge keep it, or pass it on to something or somebody?

22:53:34 <mipullen> Are AMEX settings working for anyone (as specified here: http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/OFX_Direct_Connect_Bank_Settings)? I'm getting the following error: "A TLS handshake error occurred. If you are using AqBanking you should consider enabling the option "force SSLv3" in the user settings dialog." .... even regardless of whether I have Force SSLv3 checked. I'm running GnuCash 2.2.9 (Ubuntu 9.10)
23:07:36 <shade304> you might check the logs, you can google "site:http://lists.gnucash.org/logs/ AMEX"
23:10:02 <mipullen> nope, nothing there regarding this. I checked once already. Check #2 - same result.
23:11:09 <shade304> did you check the mail logs?
23:11:28 <shade304> you could also post your question to gnucash-user
23:11:52 <mipullen> where's that?
23:11:58 <shade304> site:http://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-user/ AMEX
23:12:24 <shade304> if you want to use google, there is a search on the page, maybe use both?
23:16:57 <mipullen> Nope, nothing there either. I can post a question once I create an account and figure out how to post.....
23:17:53 <shade304> To post a message to all the list members, send email to gnucash-user@gnucash.org.
