07:11:55 <scottman451> Hi, I'm trying to find a way to export my account list from one file to another.
07:12:27 <scottman451> I can export the account list, but I can't import into back into another file.

08:23:29 <scottman451> it worked. Thanks.
08:23:42 <scottman451> Not exactly intuitive, but it does work.

17:49:38 <jonathanm> hi... question about Advanced Portfolio report:
17:49:58 <jonathanm> I am seeing blank columns for "Basis", "Total Gain" etc. for some stocks.
17:50:09 <jonathanm> It happens for stocks which have been bought, sold, then bought again.
17:50:16 <jonathanm> I have scrubbed all accounts.
17:50:25 <jonathanm> Should I file this in bugzilla? I have a simple test file
17:50:27 <jonathanm> thanks.
17:52:33 <warlord> What if the date is from before the first sale?
17:54:27 <jonathanm> no, the date is after all transactions.
18:12:26 <warlord> Right, what if you run the report and set the date to before the first sale... Does the report display correctly then>
18:12:40 <jonathanm> just a sec
18:14:14 <jonathanm> Yes, if I do that, the basis appears correctly. Also, I noticed that the problem only occurs with Basis Calculation Method set to "Average" (the default) rather than FIFO or FILO.
18:25:58 <warlord> That's probably a "known issue" with the report, but you're welcome to file a bug report.
18:27:02 <jonathanm> ok will do, thanks

22:31:34 * pestilence wonders if anybody is listening tonight
22:33:24 <jsled> perhaps
22:35:33 <pestilence> i asked this question last night:
22:35:34 <pestilence> http://lists.gnucash.org/logs/2009/11/2009-11-29.html
22:35:57 <pestilence> (the log is pretty short, look at 21:54
22:36:21 <jsled> yup, at http://lists.gnucash.org/logs/2009/11/2009-11-29.html#T21:54:05
22:36:26 <jsled> sorry, I don't know.
22:36:47 <pestilence> ah well, thanks for listening.
22:37:03 <pestilence> i'm building gnucash using macports right now to see if that makes any difference
22:37:16 <pestilence> it has been working for about 2 hours.
22:49:22 <pestilence> oh dear god
22:49:46 <pestilence> the amount of text dumped on the terminal when opening my gnucash file is absurd

23:05:52 <fbdystang> How can I enable the tax parts of gnucash?
23:11:28 <fbdystang> The "Tax Related" checkbox is lighted out so I can't use it for stocks :( or other accounts for that matter. Please advise

23:16:56 <andyzweb> hello everyone!
23:17:36 <fbdystang> Hi
23:17:49 <andyzweb> I am a college student looking to use GNUcash as my personal finance tool. Are there any good guides for those totally new to accounting.
23:18:11 <jsled> The Tutorial and Concepts Guide is pretty good.
23:18:28 <fbdystang> haha, I just graduated and I am in the same boat. Yea read the tutorial
23:18:53 <andyzweb> ok, will look them both up.
23:19:10 <jsled> one document, really. http://svn.gnucash.org/docs/guide/
23:19:20 <jsled> It should be in the Help menu, too.
23:20:50 <andyzweb> The biggest thing I am looking to get out of GNUcash is the ability to track my spending habbits (food vs entertainment vs bills/rent etc) and I don't have a help menu :-( I am on OS X
23:21:22 <jsled> I'm not sure how that would make the help menu go away.
23:21:36 <jsled> In any case, basic expense tracking is pretty straightforward.
23:21:37 <jsled> :)
23:27:05 <andyzweb> holy crap, I'd rather hand assemble code for HP-UX than do accounting :(
23:32:56 <jsled> heh
23:33:20 <jsled> it's not that bad, once it all clicks into place.
23:33:35 <jsled> there are a couple of UI pieces that make most of the data entry easier.
23:34:31 <jsled> specifically the implicit split when entering transactions in an account's register, and the autocomplete of previous transactions by description.
23:44:36 <fbdystang> that implicit split is nice :)
