01:00:25 *** whoever has joined #gnucash
01:00:32 <whoever> hi all
01:01:58 <whoever> i am trying to scan and oc read reciepts but not having any luck
01:04:45 <whoever> from what I've read this should be easy , is this even possable?
01:25:31 <jsled> whoever: huh?
01:38:01 <whoever> jsled: i am trying to eliminate paper reciepts as much as possable and thaught that gc might have a way of scanning reciepts
01:38:29 <jsled> why would you think that?
01:38:48 <whoever> after reading this, i'm notsure http://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-devel/2001-February/002878.html

01:39:28 <jsled> If we could integrate gnucash with pgp-ified email or some email-ified
01:39:28 <jsled> bug-tracker, some small segment of businesses would think this is a
01:39:28 <jsled> pretty cool thing ...
01:39:29 <whoever> i see that the idea was perposed
01:39:30 <jsled> ]]]
01:39:33 <jsled> — lol!
01:41:39 <whoever> i think that it could be done with sane and sql
01:42:37 <jsled> sane is the key, regardless of sql\
01:43:35 <jsled> it's been an idea for a long time. strangely enough, no one has actually implemented it in all that time.
01:43:39 <whoever> yes but sane supports quite a few scanners
01:43:53 <jsled> but what?
01:44:45 <whoever> sane does support altot of scanners
01:45:15 <jsled> yes, I'm sure it does.
01:46:27 <whoever> if you need/want a progranner for this.. i'm here
01:47:15 <whoever> you said sane is the key
01:48:11 <jsled> sane is the key; I know of no other library for image acquisition.
01:48:25 <jsled> everything after that is undefined.
01:48:59 * jsled afk's to bed. 'night!
01:49:49 <whoever> all that needs to be figured out with sane is how to recognise the data on the reciept
01:50:16 <jsled> wow. so simple!
01:50:17 <jsled> ;)
01:51:15 <whoever> try tesseract
01:51:30 <jsled> hrm?
01:51:44 <whoever> ocr app
01:52:05 <jsled> ah, right.
01:52:23 <jsled> Well, I'm sure it's simple … wire it up!
01:53:24 <whoever> ya let me get some of that spare time :-)

17:05:48 <lukestodola> Is it possible to combine two gnucash files into one? (I'm using version 2.2.6). They have the same account structure and cover different dates -- I'd like to just get the transactions from one file added into the other.

18:42:55 <lukestodola> Got it -- I used GnuCashToQIF ( http://gnucashtoqif.sourceforge.net ) to convert one of the files into a QIF, then opened up the other file in GnuCash and imported the QIF into it. Takes a bit of manual work to get it all to line up, but more or less worked.

19:30:28 <lloyd> I have a suggestion for determining the rate of exchange to use multiple currency transactions.
19:30:52 <lloyd> Is this the place to make such suggestions?
19:38:38 <lloyd> OK, here goes anyway: Currently, in 2.2.6, when you add a transaction that requires a currency conversion, gnucash uses the nearest rate of exchange entry it can find in time. So if you have a rate of exchange entry on Jan. 1 and Jan. 31, and your new transaction has a date of Jan 10, the Jan. 1 rate of exchange entry is used. A Jan. 18 transaction would use the Jan. 31 entry. I think gnucash should use the newest rate of exchange entry that is OLDER than
19:38:38 <lloyd> y that is NEWER. I don't know whether or not this is intentional, but I think it is incorrect.
