04:30:43 <tony> First time on irc for many years. Quick message to thank the development team for a great product. I've been using gnucash for past few weeks (2.3.2 and 2.3.3) and think it rocks.

06:03:45 <tony> In version 2.3.3, the printing seems to be restricted to ultra ultra small text size - 1 point probably - any ideas how to fix?
06:10:38 <delaman> tony: what are you trying to print?
06:12:24 <tony> Reports like the Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet and Trial Balance. I'm printing to CutePDF and/or PDFcreator.
06:13:10 <tony> I'm working around by exporting to html and then printing from the html files. It would be nice to avoid the extra step though.
06:14:28 <delaman> tony: i have 2.3.3 and it prints to pdf just fine, well atleast for me
06:16:46 <tony> OK, that's interesting. I use CutePDF regularly and I've never had a problem either. Thanks anyway.

14:19:50 <mishehu_> so with the mortgage wizard, if I have a loan which is amortized on 360 months but is actually only 180 months with a baloon payment, do I have to set the total payments at 360, the remaining at 180, and handle the baloon payment at the end manually?

18:13:26 <JimRaehl2> Why does "Quickfill" only complete the description, not the entire transaction (using Gnucash 2.3.3)? Do I need to do something I'm not doing? Is there an option setting to make? From the Tip Of The Day: Quick-fill makes it easy to enter common transactions. When you type the first letter(s) of a common transaction description, GnuCash will automatically complete the remainder of the transaction as it was last entered.

18:36:21 <jsled> JimRaehl2: once you start typing, and see it complete the rest of the description … what do you do at that point? tab? Enter? Space? Click?
18:41:40 <JimRaehl2> Click. Now I see. Tab completes the transaction. Thanks

20:56:05 <sethg> I just compiled and installed 2.3.3 with the --enable-dbi config option, hoping to take my existing .xac file and convert it to a postgresql database, so that both my wife and I can enter receipts and reconcile statements simultaneously. But I don't see any option in the menus for saving to Postgresql or any information about this in the documentation, besides remarks along the lines of "gnucash can do this now". What am I missin

21:23:48 <sethg> never mind -- "make clean" to purge the non-dbi-enabled build and then "make" and "sudo make install" seems to make it work

23:17:44 <gxti> no
23:17:56 <gabangie_> wow
23:18:14 <gxti> maybe if you asked a question, someone would help
23:18:15 <gabangie_> then who can help me with gnucash?
23:18:21 <gabangie_> ok
23:18:22 <gabangie_> thxs
23:18:36 <gabangie_> i thought nobody was here
23:19:17 <gabangie_> ok here it is my question , gnucash can it work for a company? is there some bussiness version?
23:20:00 <gxti> for a small business, yes. there's no special version, it's just part of gnucash.
23:20:56 <gabangie_> is it like an ERP ?
23:21:11 <gxti> i know nothing about business accounting, so i don't know what that means...
23:21:52 <gabangie_> Enterprise resource planning
23:22:45 <gabangie_> An ERP system typically has modular hardware and software units and "services" that communicate on a local area network. The modular design allows a business to add or reconfigure modules (perhaps from different vendors) while preserving data integrity in one shared database that may be centralized or distributed.
23:23:54 <gxti> gnucash definitely doesn't have "modular hardware and software units", although there is minimal direct database support
23:24:46 <gabangie_> ok thxs
23:24:57 <gabangie_> is there some video that show me how to use it?
23:25:06 <gabangie_> some kinda tutorial?
23:25:15 <tony> Gabangie: I'm only a newbie to Gnucash. I've found it really useful for my small business accounting. At work, we use an ERP (SAP) and I don't think Gnucash is anything like SAP.
23:25:42 <gabangie_> todays version of erp it is just software to help with the accounting of companies
23:26:35 <gabangie_> tony, what do u mean ? is it gnucash better than sap?
23:27:12 <tony> For a tutorial, I just started entering transactions using one of the example charts of accounts. It took me about 20 minutes to learn.
23:28:23 <gabangie_> tony, ok great , what about the other question?
23:30:39 <tony> SAP is a multi-user accounting package suitable for a company with 3000 employees. I think that we may have up to 50 people doing transactions on SAP concurrently. I think that Gnucash is more for a single user operation. I'm using Gnucash 2.3.3 with a database backend, so it should be possible to have a small number of concurrent users - but I've not checked. Keep in mind that I'm only a newbie with Gnucash, so other will certainly know m
23:31:50 <tony> Having said the above, I really like Gnucash. I've previously used a non-free accounting package for my small business, but I've switched completely to Gnucash now.
23:33:11 <gabangie_> what other have u tried?
23:34:07 <gabangie_> i download few free ones like abassis and it seems to be easier than gnucash , and before go further and i want to make some reasearch
23:39:25 <gabangie_> hellooooooooooooo !!!!!!!!!1
23:39:43 <tony> I'm in Australia and have used MYOB for many years with my own company. I've also looked at Quickbooks which is non free. I've not tested any other GNU accounting packages. I also did some research and relied on an article I found in a journal - can't remember which one though. I also looked at wikipedia which has lots to say on accounting packages and compares Gnucash to lots of others. I am a qualified accountant and may have a differen
