11:21:55 <slight> hi. gnucash has started splitting payments for bills when i process them. it keeps showing the total, minus £26, with a £26 pre-payment. I don't think I've changed any settings, not intentionally anyway... Any ideas?
11:29:14 <warlord> Something overpaid?
11:29:21 <warlord> Or you unposted and reposted an invoice?
11:29:30 <warlord> or you changed a transaction?
11:29:59 <slight> for example i entered and posted a bill with a total value of £285. Went to process the payment and the 'Amount' field in the Payment Information screen (for processing the payment) has been set to £259 (£285 - £26). If I now alter that amount to the correct amount it's going to show the £26 as a pre-payment (this is a new bill, I unposted the previous one and created a new one)
11:30:25 <slight> i have the bill open at the same time and it's showing Total:£285
11:30:47 <warlord> That means you already had a £26 pre-payment.
11:30:49 <slight> this has happened with 3 bills now, all newly entered, and all for the amount of £26
11:31:04 <warlord> right -- check prior to the bills..
11:31:14 <warlord> look in your AP account
11:31:50 <slight> the account that new, unpaid bills go in?
11:32:05 <warlord> bills, payments, ...
11:32:10 <slight> oh ok i think i see the problem
11:32:12 <slight> yes
11:32:25 <slight> there was an over-payment on another bill
11:32:35 <slight> ok got it
11:32:36 <slight> sorry!
11:32:50 <warlord> See.....
11:33:10 <slight> wasn't making accusations :)
11:33:18 <warlord> I know :)
11:33:26 <warlord> Me either ;)
11:33:26 <slight> :)
11:34:23 <slight> while i'm here could you tell me if it's possible to completely delete a bill/invoice? i have a few that had stuff wrong with them in fields that can't be altered after creating the item
11:34:37 <slight> i've been just un-posting them, but they clutter things up after a while
11:37:39 <warlord> No.
11:37:50 <warlord> You can mark it "inactive" which should hide it from most searches.
11:37:53 <warlord> but you cannot delete them
11:38:06 <warlord> You could also re-apply them to another customer if you want to reuse it.
11:39:01 <slight> ah ok, inactive sounds like just the ticket, thanks :)
11:39:18 <warlord> You're welcome.

15:05:43 <bupe> Hello everyone
15:05:59 <bupe> I have an issue with gnucash 2.3.2 on Windows
15:06:06 <bupe> is there someone who could help me?
15:07:00 <bupe> The issue: Currencies are not showing up at all in the Price Editor
15:07:24 <bupe> I already managed to install ActivePerl and Finnance::Quote 1.1.6
15:07:48 <bupe> but I simply cannot select CURRENCY in the Namespace field
15:21:18 <warlord> bupe: that is correct; you cannot manually set a currency exchange rate.

16:45:32 <bupe> warlord: I would like to automatically update the exchange rates from the internet
16:45:57 <bupe> and under linux I had no issues selecting currencies in the price editor
16:46:17 <bupe> but I was not able to set up Finance::Quote properly
16:47:19 <bupe> Under windows I cannot add exchange rates in price editor at all - I have stock names but I'm missing the CURRENCY group when I try to define a new exchange rate
16:47:49 <bupe> right now I'm trying to install another linux variant - the gnucash which was available in ubuntu had some serious issues
16:48:29 <warlord> bupe: see the list archives for the past few days that explain that it's a bug in F::Q and if you apply the fix to F::Q then currency quotes will work again.
16:48:32 <bupe> please let me know how to make the CURRENCY namespace available so I can define exchange rates either manually or automatically
16:50:20 *** skippuff54 has joined #gnucash
16:51:15 <warlord> You can do it automatically... Fix F::Q
16:52:50 <skippuff54> Trying to track a student loan with compound interest. How can I get app to apply the interest to the principal when it compounds (continuous). The loan is unsubsidized and I am in school so it is deferred however I can still make payments and specify that they are applied to the principal (just do not have to right now...)
16:54:13 <warlord> skippuff54: AFAIK there is no functionality to compute the continuously compounding interest.. You'll just need to enter it by hand every pay-period.
16:54:54 <skippuff54> that will increase my liabilities, and what other account should be affected? equity?
16:55:25 <warlord> Expense
16:58:11 <warlord> If it's interest accrual, it's still an expense..
16:58:14 <skippuff54> so the provider charges interest: i add that manually to the loan principal, and attribute it to an expense? even though it is an expense that i actually cover when i make a payment on the principal of a (increased) liability? in other words, when the loan compounds, the expense becomes a liability right?
16:58:32 <warlord> Right.
16:59:53 <skippuff54> that transformation is what i am having difficulty trying to track (and get my mind around...)
17:01:28 <skippuff54> ok, then manual upates of the loan principal is how i will proceed, unless you have any other words on it.
17:01:50 <warlord> Well.. You COULD track it as equity:accured-loan-interest
17:02:02 <warlord> No, it'll have to be manual.
17:03:04 <skippuff54> ok. for the record, my email is rwhitlock26@gmail.com
17:03:17 <skippuff54> thank you immensely!
17:03:58 <skippuff54> take Gnucash to these jokers in DC, that is what i say

17:30:11 <linas> hey warlord, can you nag the release manager to get the win32 exe downloads on to sourceforge? I'm still getting my bandwidth blasted pretty hard ...
17:30:31 <warlord> linas: Sure.
17:31:12 <warlord> actually, it IS up on SF.
17:31:25 <warlord> maybe the news file needs to be updated to the new URL?
17:33:05 *** skippuff54 has left #gnucash
17:36:39 <linas> ah. Yes, maybe the news file needs an update
17:37:11 <linas> when the latest version was announces, the bandwidth maxed out in a way its never done before, and its stayed high ever since
17:37:48 <linas> its dropping a bit now, being maxed out only for 1/2 the day, but its still much heavier than ever before
17:38:22 <linas> no clue why this announce is different than the others ...
17:39:48 <warlord> This is the first 2.3.x with a Win32 build.
17:42:07 <linas> hah!
17:42:22 *** Demitar has quit IRC
17:42:25 <linas> well, its popular!
17:45:12 <warlord> Apparently.
17:45:51 <linas> problem is the exe file is so fat (77 MB !!), that I can handle may 10 an hour
17:46:10 <linas> so it doesn't take much to saturate the line
17:47:11 <warlord> Yeah
17:47:14 <warlord> I understand
17:48:33 <linas> A torrent for this is probably more effective
17:48:58 <warlord> But can we setup a torrent on SF?
17:49:12 <linas> we'll loose track of how many have been downloaded but I don;'t think anyone cares
17:49:22 <linas> I can seed a torrent here, I think ...
17:50:33 <warlord> But that's not going to help your upstream b/w. BT is still unicast, not multicast.
17:51:22 <linas> sure, but most downloaders will be able to get parts of the exe from other downloaders, instead of from me
17:51:48 <linas> so total b/w used can be much lower
17:52:03 <linas> (assuming people use it)
17:52:15 <linas> way I figure, it can't possibly make things worse ..
17:52:16 <warlord> Hmm
17:52:21 <warlord> LOL. True.

18:37:37 <linas> any idea how many of these were exes?
18:37:37 <gxti> last download was 9 minutes ago
18:38:01 <gxti> since aug 2, 488
18:38:10 <gxti> no love for linux indeed
18:38:19 <linas> I've had 434 downloads of the .exe since aug 2nd
18:39:18 <linas> and 955 before that

18:43:14 <linas> looks like about 3K win exe downloads .. interesting
18:44:30 <linas> by comparison saw 2K + 1K tarball downloads
18:44:42 <linas> I assume you saw similar numbers
18:45:24 <gxti> 214 and 119
18:45:29 <gxti> so not so much
