04:23:59 <Simon> "libdbi implements a database-independent abstraction layer in C"
04:24:10 <Simon> gxti: why would *anyone* use it if it only did strings?

04:55:26 <Simon> gxti: also, gnucash itself doesn't need to specifically use them for it to be useful
04:56:20 <Simon> gxti: it'd make it practical to run queries on the database directly

05:33:33 <unixSnob> suppose I create an asset account in EUROs because I loaned someone some euros. If they make payments in US dollars, how should I set that up? Should I also create a USD income account?

10:55:19 <wbaker> I have a set of books keeping USD and TTD (an arbitrary 2nd currency). The exchange rates seem to drift arbitrarily when I enter transactions. I want them fixed at 1:3 but they drift to 0.3335, 0.33325 and so forth in various transactions. What does one do about this?
10:57:21 <gxti> does it permanently change the rate, or is it just showing you the actual ratio between the rounded-off numbers? 3 doesn't divide evenly in a base 10 system.
11:06:07 *** Demitar has quit IRC
11:06:34 <wbaker> It installs a new price entry in the price editor. e.g. 0.33350
11:06:48 <wbaker> Sometimes it installs a new price in the price editor as "1/3" and all is well.
11:07:21 <wbaker> There seems to be some trick to using the "debit value" rather than "exchange rate" when entering the transactions but I've never isolated what that is.
11:07:51 <wbaker> It kinda feels like there aren't enough decimal digits of precision to carry out this sort of conversion.
11:08:33 <wbaker> I used to run this system in OO calc and it does just fine with the expected values returned for "change". With gnucash I'm often "off by one" or "off by three" cents.

19:19:02 <mc> heya, thanks for pointing out earlier that 2.3 was unstable tree. indeed i'm quite happy w 2.2. still one thing is bugging me, if i do a transaction from acocunt a to b, and am splitting the transaction inside a, all references in b will contain the main description and not the description of the split itself.
19:19:25 <mc> this seems odd to me :)
19:24:45 <mc> ah darn, now it crashed. and i need to go to bed. bbt =)
