15:25:01 <advorak> howdy!

15:28:32 <advorak> I'm trying to transition my GNUCash settings from Windows to Linux --- No problem, I just copy the account files over and it works perfectly, however I keep a bunch of reports open which does not transition over. Where are the gnucash settings files in windows that I must transfer over to Linux so as to restore my reports?
15:31:48 <andrewsw> In the linux world, there is a file in your home directory ~/.gnucash/books/<name of gnucash data file> that contains the current state of the data file
15:32:01 <andrewsw> whatever that equivalent file in windows is, is what you need.
15:32:14 <andrewsw> I don't know what the path to it would be
15:32:49 <advorak> got it :-) ~/.gconf/ :-P
15:33:12 <advorak> /Documents and Settings/{username}/.gconf/ :-)
15:33:15 <andrewsw> really? I'm not so sure it would be in ~/.gconf
15:33:29 <andrewsw> is there not a /Documents and Settings/{user}/.gnucash?
15:33:31 <advorak> oops
15:33:33 <advorak> ~/.gnucash
15:33:35 <advorak> thanks :-)
15:33:36 <andrewsw> okay.
15:34:00 <andrewsw> that file contains the info about what tabs are open and includes report settings and so forth from the previous session.
15:34:22 <advorak> I was being silly when I was searching for it .. I was using nautilus search, which dot files..
15:34:30 <advorak> which omitted dot files, rather.
15:37:56 <andrewsw> I'm hoping there's no translation with that file when moving from windows to linux
15:38:05 <andrewsw> problem, that is
15:40:20 <advorak> I'll let you know ..
15:41:00 <andrewsw> I'm thinking of cr/lf issues, for example. It's just a text file and can be easily editted if necessary
15:41:10 <advorak> *nods*
15:42:38 <advorak> yeah I see windows cf/lf in the config files .. I'll try it unmodified first and see if it likes it ..
15:42:53 <advorak> if not I'll resolve the cf/lf
15:48:07 <advorak> ok all of my reports are there ..
15:48:12 <andrewsw> cool!
15:48:23 <advorak> let me see if gnucash *removes* all of the cr/lf thingys ..
15:50:17 <advorak> *shrug* anyways it works ..
15:50:20 <advorak> :-)
15:50:43 <andrewsw> you have to exit gnucash normally to have that file updated. glad it works
15:53:35 <advorak> well .. the file I was looking at was saved-reports-2.0
15:53:40 <advorak> is that something accurate to look at?
15:53:56 <advorak> er maybe not :-P
15:54:11 <andrewsw> saved-reports-2.0 is the file used to store your custom reports.
15:54:21 <advorak> oh gotcha :-)
15:54:26 <andrewsw> the reports that are *currently* open are stored in the books file
15:54:29 <advorak> anyways .. the other files in /books
15:54:35 <andrewsw> along with tabs stated etc
15:54:39 <advorak> are normal line endings sofar as linux is concerned
15:54:44 <advorak> let me check the original ..
15:55:08 <andrewsw> I don't think its an issue. If it works once, it should work.
15:56:00 <advorak> ah I see ..
15:56:00 <advorak> yup
15:56:06 <advorak> gnucash on linux corrected the end of line ..
15:56:20 <advorak> (in VIM, the windows version has "^M" and in linux it has no "^M"
15:56:22 <advorak> )
15:56:28 <andrewsw> yup
15:56:58 <advorak> good, now it'd be nice if the reports were included in the account files.. but that's debate for another day :-P
15:57:45 <andrewsw> I think with the transition to a db backend, I think that might become more feasible. But I don't know and I certainly don't have the time to do it.
15:58:28 <andrewsw> trunk has custom report deletion now, and if I get some time this summer, it might get rename and such.
16:00:35 <advorak> *nods* I saw database support on the betas .. that would be nice :-)
16:12:10 *** warlord-afk is now known as warlord
16:12:59 <warlord> For the record, I agree that CUSTOM reports should e included with the data file, but OPEN reports/windows should not.. Different users should be able to have different configurations of open reports while working against the same data file.
16:13:30 <andrewsw> hi warlord! yes, I agree.
16:13:50 <warlord> hey andrew. Only here for a short while.
16:14:15 <andrewsw> me too.
16:14:38 <andrewsw> hope you are well

16:17:30 <warlord> Thanks. Working on it.
16:18:53 <andrewsw> I saw in scrollback some days ago that you were injured. Hopefully not extensively. I hope you get back on that horse soon!

16:21:50 <warlord> Sore ribs.
16:22:00 <warlord> It'll be a couple more weeks.
16:22:26 <andrewsw> yeah. did you crack them? that always sucks.
16:22:49 <andrewsw> I've been there (bike injured). It's no fun. I wish you a speedy recovery.

16:40:36 <lenscape> what's the difference between postponing and canceling a reconciliation? And what happens if you just close the window?
16:41:56 <andrewsw> lenscape: postponing leaves all the transaction marked as "cleared" but not "reconciled" so you can pick up where you left off. cancel just undoes everything.
16:42:21 <andrewsw> cancel forces you to start over from the beginning re-entering ending balances and so forth.
16:42:28 <andrewsw> not sure about just closing the window.

16:45:09 <andrewsw> warlord: be well. I'm out, see you next time.
16:45:15 <warlord> later

17:47:26 <jsled> the value of different users having different configurations of reports is far lower than having a sane single datafile that contains everything.
17:47:53 <jsled> Especially cause one could have named views or something that would solve the problem nearly just as well.,
17:48:02 <jsled> (but, be generally more useful)
