10:09:31 <magpie> greetings...i'd like to have comparative monthly expense reports...
10:09:33 *** chris has quit IRC
10:10:14 <warlord> GnuCash has no text-based comparative reports.
10:10:29 <warlord> You could run the same report against multiple months and manually compare..
10:10:42 <warlord> Or you can use the graphical reports to get a sense of the differences.
10:11:18 <magpie> graphical=barchart?
10:11:49 <magpie> but i can't see what my expenses were in april compared to may on one screen?
10:13:16 <warlord> yes, barchart.
10:13:46 <warlord> Well, you can see them in graphical form, but not in text form.. I suppose you could create a multi-column report and run the P&L twice.
10:14:16 <magpie> i tried setting up budget for 04/09 - 12/09 and estimating budget values but when i created budget report the months start at 09/07 and to go 08/08
10:14:46 *** chris has joined #gnucash
10:15:10 <magpie> while i'm not interested in budget i thought i would be able to see the actual expenses by month
10:15:20 <warlord> I know nothing about the budget features.
10:15:39 <warlord> But no, gnucash has no multi-month textual reports.
10:15:48 <magpie> ok, thanks
10:17:09 <warlord> You're welcome to donate one!
10:17:14 <warlord> It's just some simple scheme hacking.
10:20:17 <magpie> i'm no hacker
10:20:27 <warlord> Scheme is simple. A child could learn it.

14:50:40 <bleucheese> Hi all, I am wondering about a fix for the printable invoice font. I am in the process of updating my MacBook (Leopard 10.5.7) via fink to gnucash 2.2.9, but as I wait I have been searching for more info and it looks like the font (Serf Regular 12?) is still not fixed. Is this true?
14:52:51 <bleucheese> I also found this patch, but am not sure if I can apply it since I'm using fink on a Mac: http://members.iinet.com.au/~paulone/gnucash/
14:53:31 <warlord> bleucheese: It's a bug in GtkHtml.
14:53:43 <warlord> In 2.4 we're moving to WebKit which should help the issue.
14:54:14 <bleucheese> OK, but that will be a while, right?
14:54:20 <bleucheese> thanks btw Warlord :)
14:55:10 *** XiXaQ has quit IRC
14:55:24 <warlord> Yeah, a few months.
14:55:45 <warlord> And that "patch" to gnucash itself has never been provided to us.
14:56:33 <warlord> Last I looked (which, granted, was a long time ago) the bug report had that link in it but you needed to "register" to get the patch. We've asked the author to attach the patch to the bug report but still it hasn't been done.
14:59:36 <bleucheese> OK. As I am a relative beginner (and not a developer by any stretch, unless you count writing C programs years ago to do pretty basic network modeling stuff), is it at all feasible for me to try to register at that patch developer's site, and get it to work with my fink version of gnucash?
14:59:58 <warlord> I have no idea how easy/hard it would be.
15:00:18 <warlord> It's probably easier for you to just export the report to an HTML file, load that file into Firefox or Safari, and then print it from there.
15:00:41 <bleucheese> Oh yeah? I think I tried that but had some issues. I may try to fiddle with it again
15:00:47 <bleucheese> thank you so much for your help.

16:44:07 <mib_7g10jtub> Hello?
16:45:25 <mib_7g10jtub> Could use a little help with GnuCash program.
16:48:44 <warlord> can't help you if you dont ask a question..
16:49:40 <mib_7g10jtub> Oh, I didn't know anyone was here.
16:49:46 <mib_7g10jtub> Everyone was Idle.
16:50:33 <jsled> there's 30 people in the channel, and you only waited 5 minutes.
16:50:57 <mib_7g10jtub> The question is how can I rename the columns? For example, I want to rename "Decrease" to "Deposit" and "Increase" to "Withdrawl."
16:51:15 <mib_7g10jtub> Sorry, I never used IRC before.
16:51:26 <warlord> change the account type to Bank
16:51:33 <mib_7g10jtub> I'm an Ubuntu newbie trying to learn GNUCash.
16:51:50 <mib_7g10jtub> Ok, let me try.
16:52:18 <jsled> you can't rename the columns, but many of the non-generic account types have more intuitive/descriptive labels.
16:53:09 <warlord> right, what jsled said.
16:53:41 <warlord> jsled: do you want vmware console/admin access to the 'code' vm?
16:54:16 <mib_7g10jtub> I see... then, I must have done something wrong. I'm trying to follow the instructions for opening a trust account, but let me start over again.
16:54:41 <mib_7g10jtub> I'll check back here in a few minutes and see what happens.
16:55:13 <jsled> warlord: who can turn down more access? :)
16:55:28 <jsled> Waht's running on that vm?
16:55:43 <warlord> jsled: well, mostly it's so someone else could theoretically reset the VM if it's wedged.
16:55:53 <warlord> it's 'code.gnucash.org'//
16:59:05 <warlord> But you could still start/stop/reset the VM in case it gets wedged, or look at the console if there's an Oops of some sort.
17:08:48 <mib_7g10jtub> Hmm.I think the instructions are missing some critical information about setting up the trust account.
17:08:56 *** palatin has quit IRC
17:09:40 <warlord> Where are these instructions to which you are referring?
17:09:42 <mib_7g10jtub> Would anyone here be interested in looking at the instruction booklet I have and seeing what instructions are missing?

17:13:47 <mib_7g10jtub> Ok, no problem.
17:14:14 <warlord> Sorry.
17:14:59 <mib_7g10jtub> It's ok.
