00:12:44 <pattern> when i try to create a new transaction in the general ledger it tells me that "this transaction is already being edited in another register. please finish editing it there first."
00:12:52 <pattern> and deletes the transaction
00:13:11 <pattern> is it not possible to create new transactions in the general ledger?
00:32:35 <jsled> pattern: the general ledger is a little buggy.
00:32:41 <jsled> Just use the account registers, instead.
00:36:51 <pattern> alright
00:38:05 <pattern> would be nice if the general ledger worked, though... as it's kind of a pain to have to jump back and forth between all the accounts when having to enter a large amount of data
00:41:01 <jsled> I usually just hang out in my asset and liabilities accounts.
00:41:55 <jsled> And I could usually segregate entry by method of payment, which futher helped.
00:44:47 <pattern> i have many assets and liabilities accounts
00:44:56 <pattern> so i'd have to go back and forth between them all
00:45:23 <pattern> not to mention expense and revenue accounts, etc
00:45:42 <jsled> you shouldn't need to visit the expense and revene accounts very much.
00:45:58 <jsled> if at all.
01:19:14 <pattern> i guess you're right about that
01:19:48 <pattern> still, it would be nice to be able to enter all my transactions in to the general ledger
01:30:51 <pattern> also, when entering transactions in the general ledger it's a lot easier to see the date of the last transaction you entered, and can easily make sure you have entered it
01:32:50 <pattern> if you're forced to enter transactions in to the various account journals then it's easy to lose track of which transactions you've entered in and which you haven't (without looking back in to the general ledger)
01:33:05 <pattern> especially if you have to go to another journal to double check something
01:33:56 <pattern> if you could enter transactions in to the general ledger you could just go from transaction to transaction to transaction, while having all the details of what transactions you've entered right in front of you
01:34:01 <pattern> it's much more convenient, imo
01:34:09 <pattern> and less error prone

09:45:10 <Bob> I have talked with Jsled last night about setting up an account hierarchy for agricultural accounting purposes...I still had 1 question related to that: would you think of any way I could somehow track "inventory", (I am fond of Gnucash and would like to somehow be able to stick to it). Maybe some external program into which I could somehow feed Gnucash data..... or would it be better to switch to another software altogether (e.g. those th
09:45:10 <Bob> at use MySQL)?

09:50:38 *** Rolf1 has left #gnucash
10:44:45 <jsled> no, there's no inventory system.
10:45:03 <jsled> If you can create QIF files describing transactions from a separate inventory system, you could import those transactions into gnucash.
10:45:11 <jsled> But it's a uni-directional operation.
10:45:24 <jsled> That's probably the easiest way to interface with gnucash externally.

11:54:27 <elysch> Hi. Have anyone noticed the UN-installation in windows leave a loot of stuff in the registry and I don't know where else (I did rename "documents and settings\user\.gnucash")? When I re-install, it opens the last file.
11:56:17 <elysch> I have already uninstalled, then renamed the "Program Files\gnucash" directory, The "documents and settings\user\.gnucash", my directory where I store my files... then re-install it, and it complaints about not finding the last open file.
11:56:34 <elysch> Where does gnucash store that information, for example?
11:56:41 <elysch> How to uninstall it complitely?

11:58:11 <elysch> forgot to say, I did also looked in the registry, and deleted whan I knew it was safe to delete, but it still has a loot of ocurrences of "gnucash" (by the way, the name of my last open file, is not stored in the registry)

18:54:31 <Bob> would the implementation of an inventory system in Gnucash represent a lot of work? Is it complety undoable?
