08:56:28 <warlord> puck: you can move /all/ txns from one account to another by deleting the account (gnucash will ask you about moving them). But no, gnucash has no batch processing.
09:02:26 <enriq> hi. How can I reorder the subaccounts in a tree for a given account?
09:02:45 <enriq> (on gnucash 2.2.4 if that matters)
09:04:10 <warlord> Reorder how? Default ordering is by account code.
09:04:13 <warlord> then ascii.
09:05:23 <warlord> (acct name)
09:07:09 <enriq> warlord: thanks I found it in a FAQ, sorry for not looking there before asking

12:09:55 <MeXTuX> When I started to use GNUCash Liabilities:Credit card account balance was $5709.73 but now my bank sent me the new balance and it increased to $5889.69. I don't know how to update the balance in GNUCash. Do I have to double-click Liabilities:Credit card and enter the new value or is it a little more complex procedure???
12:10:38 <warlord> Why is the balance different?
12:11:39 <MeXTuX> because of interests
12:12:19 <warlord> Did you add the interest transaction?
12:12:53 <MeXTuX> Nop. I just entered the old balance when started to use GNUCash
12:13:12 <MeXTuX> so I am a newbie
12:13:17 <warlord> Well, you need to add the interest
12:15:04 <MeXTuX> Add an interest account. In which category do I have to add the interest? Liabilities, I guess
12:16:02 <warlord> I'd add it in Expenses.
12:16:27 <warlord> (because it's an expense)
12:17:31 <MeXTuX> Even if I still don't pay it??
12:18:51 <MeXTuX> Even if I don't pay it yet?

12:29:55 <warlord> Yes

12:30:08 <warlord> The interest is already in your account, and it's an expense just like the dinner you bought.
12:33:29 <MeXTuX> Ok. I have just read this --> The expense occurs when you charge something on the card. When you buy something on credit, you transfer money from the credit card account to the expense account. The expense is the object you are buying on credit. If I buy clothes with a credit card, for example, the expense is the clothes My method of paying for them is with credit, a type of liability...
12:33:31 <MeXTuX> ...(instead of cash, check, etc.).
12:33:53 <MeXTuX> I found it on http://www.osdir.com/ml/gnome.apps.gnucash.user/2001-03/msg00229.html
12:33:58 <warlord> Yes.....
12:40:26 <MeXTuX> So when I pay my credit card debt is it a transfer from Assets:Savings account to Liabilities:Credit card ??
12:40:34 <warlord> Yes...
12:40:40 <warlord> Have you read the docs? This is all in there.
12:42:24 <MeXTuX> I have read just parts of it. But wiil try to read it completely next weekend
12:45:00 <warlord> Please do so.. All these questions about CC are in the docs.

13:26:51 <enriq> hello. How can I use the symbol USD for dollar instead of ´$´
13:38:56 <enriq> I mean in the display
13:39:34 <enriq> Other currencies are shown as GBP, EUR, etc, and I´d like dollar to be shown as USD. Is it possible?
13:43:15 <warlord> change your locale.
13:44:33 <warlord> gnucash will always use the currency symbol if it's the locale currency. there is no flag to turn that off -- so you need to change your locale.

21:59:42 <pattern> are there any plans for gnucash to be controllable through something like dbus or dcop?
22:33:36 <XiXaQ> I don't know. What would you be using the interfaces for?
23:11:53 <pattern> to integrate gnucash with other programs
23:12:27 <pattern> like, say, if i wanted to use an external program for invoicing and wanted data to be seamlessly transferred from gnucash to/from the invoicing program
23:12:41 <pattern> that's just an example, though
23:12:53 <pattern> there could be any number of external programs that this would be useful for
23:13:53 <pattern> not to mention having a simple scripting interface would make automating recurring tasks a lot easier
23:14:33 <pattern> that's just off the top of my head... i'm sure there are a ton of things this could be useful for

23:28:20 <XiXaQ> gnucash has a python binding though?
23:29:10 *** goodger has quit IRC
23:38:32 <pattern> ah
23:38:34 <pattern> i didn't know that
23:38:37 <pattern> that's good
23:40:21 <pattern> it would be nice if there was a language-independent scripting interface to gnucash
23:41:03 <pattern> but having python bindings is a good start
