16:48:01 <roe_> does anyone bank with an establishment that supports importing transactions to GnuCash
16:48:13 <roe_> (US)
16:50:27 <roe_> found a link in the wiki to the ofxblog.wordpress.com - is this accurate/up-to-date?
16:57:01 *** KaiForce has quit IRC
17:17:23 <warlord> no clue -- it's not our website.
17:18:41 <roe_> I ended up just calling 10 banks to find one. It is amazing how few banks offer such a thing
17:19:25 <jsled> roe_: have you seen <http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/OFX_Direct_Connect_Bank_Settings>
17:19:40 <roe_> yea, I found that at the 9th bank
17:19:46 <warlord> which bank was it?
17:19:59 <roe_> PNC Bank is the one I am moving to
17:20:12 <roe_> wachovia offers it but for $17/month
17:20:17 <warlord> I'm surprised to hear of ANY bank that has actually heard of GnuCash!
17:20:41 <roe_> none of them has ever heard of it, I had to do a knowledge translation
17:21:17 <warlord> ah. gotcha
17:22:14 <roe_> Me: do you support exporting transactions to accounting software? Them: yes, to quicken, quickbooks, MS money and Excel? Me: What specific file formats do you export to? Them: qbo, qbx ofx csv
17:22:44 <warlord> cool

19:52:47 <bobm> Hi there - I am a newbie having some trouble setting up a stock account to have a 'Currency' which is the stock itself. The dialog won't let me choose my 'NYSE' category, only 'CURRENCY'. (Ubunutu 09.04 beta, GnuCash 2.2.6)
19:54:01 <jsled> What is the account type?
19:54:13 <bobm> Asset
19:54:20 <bobm> (If that's what you mean)
19:54:26 <jsled> It has to be Stock.
19:54:35 <jsled> Asset will only allow Currency commodities
19:54:37 <bobm> I think it is, let me check
19:54:46 <bobm> That may be my problem
19:57:14 <bobm> Thanks that fixes it for me
19:57:22 <bobm> I just need the leaf-node accounts as STOCK right?
20:04:42 <jsled> yeah.

21:40:26 <mib_ov2px7> Trying to escape the quicken trap. Moving from Quicken 2006, but I'm having trouble importing .qif's. I tried http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=557844, but it fails on importing transactions.
21:43:16 <jsled> fails how?
21:44:05 <mib_ov2px7> It brings up an error message and fails. Let me run it to get the msg...
21:45:18 <mib_ov2px7> Yeah, very generic, it just says "An error occured while loading the qif file"
21:45:35 <mib_ov2px7> let me run it from cl to see if it says more
21:46:03 <jsled> where did you get the QIF file?
21:46:25 <mib_ov2px7> from my quicken 2006
21:46:47 <mib_ov2px7> the cl has a lot of error info
21:47:01 <mib_ov2px7> "qif-split:parse-category : can't parse Leisure\Recreation"
21:48:28 <mib_ov2px7> and maybe 49 lines more lisp-ish
21:48:32 <mib_ov2px7> code
22:22:28 <mib_ov2px7> I think I found one possible problem.
22:22:49 <mib_ov2px7> I installed kmymoney and just tried some quick importing, and it griped at the date formatting I have.
22:23:07 <mib_ov2px7> I can see they're coming across like: D8/ 1' 7
22:23:50 <mib_ov2px7> But most example .qif's I see are more like D8/01/2007
22:24:13 <mib_ov2px7> I'm going to see if normalizing this makes it work for gnucash.

23:17:07 <mib_ov2px7> It was the stupid date format! What sane coder formats a date as "D3/ 5' 7" ???? After some major surgery w/ vim S&R, I was able to get it to import into kmymoney.
23:17:26 <mib_ov2px7> Now to see if I can get it in gnucash.
23:21:30 <blahdeblah> Hi. I've got some quick questions, but first a compliment: after getting frustrated with MS Money 99 being the only thing i needed Windows for, and sick of wrestling with recompiling kernel modules every time a new version of VMware came out, i bit the bullet and switched to GNUcash - export of QIF files from MS Money, import into GNUcash. Plenty of things ended up in imbalance, but it was highly usable and easy to clean up. Now m
23:22:12 <blahdeblah> OK, question 1: is there a way to set a default filter so that reconciled transactions are filtered out?
23:22:22 <blahdeblah> I checked the FAQ and couldn't find anything there, or in preferences.
